Unacceptable Billing Errors by Tomato Energy

I am deeply frustrated with Tomato Energy's billing accuracy. My July 2025 bill for the period of 1 June 2025 to 30 June 2025 was calculated using an estimated meter reading, despite my submission of actual meter readings on 29 June 2025 and 30 June 2025. This resulted in a discrepancy of 158 kWh. For context, my usage last month was less than 100 kWh, making the estimate over 1.5 times my typical consumption.This inaccurate estimate has led to a potentially inflated bill, which is completely unacceptable. I urge Tomato Energy to correct the bill using my submitted readings and overhaul their billing process to prevent such errors. This experience has completely eroded my trust in their service, and I highly NOT recommend Tomato Energy as a service provider. Once my contract term ends, I will switch to another provider and advise all my friends to avoid using Tomato Energy.

Really poor experience with Tomato…

Really poor experience with Tomato Energy. Even though we signed up and received a contract, they never actually set up our electricity—and never told us they hadn’t. We were completely in the dark (literally and figuratively) until we chased it up ourselves. Total lack of communication and reliability. Would not recommend.

Getting things right.

First may I start with the star rating. Awarded 4, but should have been a 5* if you consider their offer and pricing - which is great, especially if you use battery storage that can utilise the lower early morning rates. Why a 4 rating, well when I signed up all was fine, but I was suggested to use a battery tariff, but found a week later that another tariff was better for me (with battery’s) so please check for yourself. When I asked to switch to the more appropriate tariff, my email took many weeks to get a reply - painfully slow (1*) But tomato did come back and change tariff, it just took a while. I guessed they are being so successful with great pricing that they are victims of their own success, too many new customers, not enough customer service guys and gals to resolve issues. Albeit disappointed with this, I have recommended tomato to a lot of people (esp battery / ev cars) but tomato had stopped signing up new customers. Today I had a call with Harvey and he confirmed that they are concentrating on getting things right with their existing customers before taking on more (well done) Great to get a call to ask how I was doing, in fact I missed the call several times and they still persevered. I think this shows a commitment by tomato to get things right, and with really useful tariffs - good luck to them.

hero to zero in 60 days

well i've gone from someone who switched 2 months ago and left a glowing review of the switch to a customer absolutely going around in circles and getting nowhere with their customer service team,not the time taken to answer the calls,that is very efficient,but their complete inability to sort out a relatively simple problem regarding billing or even return calls or email an update which they all claim to be doing but in reality don't. so disappointed.hero to zero in 60days☹️.

I just signed up with Tomato Energy''

I just signed up with Tomato Energy in the last couple of months my electric usage is very low as i live on my own. But today''' i go too put a Meter Reading in and find that its been Auto Estimated and 364 Whatts added without even asking me for a reading '' ive sent a photo of my current meter reading which is 364 Whatt's Lower than there Auto Estimation .''' So ill have too see what they say when i phone customer services tmro'' i have not received my electric bill at the Set Rate'' that was Advertised'' on Tomato Energy website when i signed up with them and i have paid all change over fees and current bills up to date but the current bill is not a Set Rate so im a little confused'' as too how this Company is operating as some reviews on here tell a different story of getting there monthly Electric bills at a cheap Set Rate ie £170 odd pounds monthly'' which is what i initially signed up for''. Lets hope i can get some Solid Answers to my problem'' with Tomato Energy Auto Estimated Computerised Calculations being put in to the my WHATTS meter readings Account without my Consent. When my readings are up front and 364 WHATT's LOWER'' than a computerised estimated reading'' being put in without my consent im not really very happy as a customer because i always go to Great lengths to try and make sure all my Bills are paid when its time too pay''i feel a bit put out if i've just come up against another miscalculating Electric company ''its shameful if i have'' and ill have to go to the Ombudsman yet again'' Its all so stressful when something dosen't do what it says on the label in this Situation im wondering if its a can of worms'' or a nice can of Tomatoes '' ill just have to wait and see ''Lets hope it turns out too be a set rate and a nice can of Tomatoes and just a minor mistake on the companies part .I have given them a 5 Star rating because i still have faith in Honest companies doing what they say they will do . lets hope they turn out Flying full Colours for the UK Customers in the future of Energy providers. Horrendous Experience

3 more weeks and now nearly 2 months since my supply was supposed to go live. Not one piece of proactive communication or explanation from Tomato - they only contact customers that leave Trustpilot reviews which suggests that their internal communication systems are completely overwhelmed. Even when they do make contact, they aren’t able to provide any details of why they still haven’t made my switch or when they may be able to do so. Given that they haven’t been accepting any new customers for weeks, the positive reviews that continue to be posted are suspicious. The only good news is that I’ll soon be able to escalate the issue to the ombudsman!
