Routes Car Rental has mixed reviews from customers. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and expensive.

Booked rental with routes through my AMEX account d/t there policy for rental car. I also have my own car insurance that covers rentals. Flight was late and had Amex customer service call the rental company to notify them. The Amex rep expressed how rude they were when she notified them. They told her if I was more than 2hrs late they would bill me $75. We had to reach out to the corporate office or some higher up to approve the late arrival time. We arrived at 1AM to pickup- waited in line for an hour. They try to sucker you into buying there insurance policy saying that mine won’t cover anything and tell you that you need there hyper inflated sunpass. So my rental price I booked was about $200 and when said and done they told me the rental price would be $800 plus I have to put down $500. So I walked out and cancelled and at 2AM took an Uber to hotel room. Now they are charging me $50 fee for “no show”. I have receipts with my gps location with my Uber info to say other wise. How about not run a shady business and be upfront and honest with your customers before they show up to a bloodbath of fees. I’d also like to mention that when we got there there were multiple people leaving without rentals due to the same reason. Update 10/15/24: Routes is denying me the refund of my money because they claim I only turned down the rental because of the refundable deposit. This is not true, that was just an additive factor in the unorthodox/unethical pushing of their insurance and sunpass option. Like I said what was supposed to be a $200 car rental. I eventually rented a car from enterprise for not much more and they accepted my auto insurance, which is a premium insurance that has covered me in the past and my AMEX card would cover bc I rented through them. Also enterprise didn’t charge me for the sunpass- the license plate is monitored and charged to you. With Routes, they charge you $12.50/day and I only used the expressway a couple times, so don’t make sense for me. Now if I didn’t get “their” sun pass and my toll got missed or accidentally passed up I would be charge the sun pass fine plus an additional $50 per offense. Anyone with future plans of car rentals please consider this review and stick with the big brand rental company.
Shout out to Jackie. Big time 5 stars energy
Thank you so much Brandon for our rental. Fast, efficient service with smile. This is my first time here, thank you for all your help, you’ve made the beginning of our trip so much easier!!! Much appreciated.
Brandon is awesome. Definitely helped us out with our rental needs. Routes is worth the check out.
Great experience with Brandon using Expedia!
Zee was super friendly and helpful. No hassle pick up. Made the whole process a breeze!
King was a really good person and patient!
They didn’t accept the insurance I purchased from orbits on line. They treated me so racially
I am a UK National. I booked a car via Routes to be collected from Europcar Manchester Airport. On arrival Europcar told me Routes had not included standard insurance excess. So if I damage, write off or the car is fire damaged then I will be LIABLE FOR THE FULL VALUE OF THE VEHICLE! Up to £100k I had to pay Europcar £285 to ensure excess is the normal £2k. Now I have never known something like this... Europcar explains that this is usually used for US or Canadian citizens due to their Excess being covered by their bank. But never with UK Customers. There were 12 other Routes customers in the space of 2hrs who turned up to Europcar with the same issue. Routes are an incompetent dodgy company who do not understand the UK Car Hire market or are scamming money from customers. The rental was around £190... but I had to pay and EXTRA £285 bring it down to a reasonable level
One of the worst rental companies I’ve ever used. Car was dirty, counter person didn’t know what he was doing. The biggest problem is the 1000$ deposit and they hold the deposit for 15-30 day. Never again will I do business with this rental car company.
DONT RENT FROM HERE! If you have an early flight since they are not open 24/7 nor do they have a drop off box for the key. When I rented the car I entered the drop off time as early morning. When I picked up the car I was never told that they are not open till after 6 am and there is no early drop off at that location. You have to take the car to the Westin Hotel and they charge you $100. Talking about being shady and charging illegal fees. All the reviews here and yelp 100% correct ! The car smelled like a cheap air freshener in a public bathroom! If you want to save money- you won’t you will be paying more then if you go with a more reputable company! STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHADY PLACE! Update: so after getting the general response back and emailing this SHADY company there still no resolution or an answer! My $500 security deposit still not released! This company has no rating with BBB for obvious reasons! I will be filing a complaint with BBB! This is ridiculous!
Routes description at the time of reservation did not show any restriction or charges for travel to Wisconsin. I have rented dozens of cars in many states including Illinois and never have received such a restriction. Because this restriction is so unusual Routes is obligated to disclose it at time of reservation so I can make an informed decision. The small print at pickup said “The Vehicle may be driven or used only in the State of Chicago “ is nonsense.
Ended up paying literally double the original booking amount after their hidden fees. DOUBLE! Then Rahul had the nerve to hover over us and hound us for a review upon return. I pretended so I could see the invoice first. Glad I did. I should've read all the bad reviews before booking. That's my bad.. They wouldn't take my insurance so we had to use theirs with a huge deductible, the whole time driving was not fun and worrisome.
Gehna was amazing in helping me.Even though it was almost the closing time, she patiently helped the customer before me and myself and she took the time to make sure we understand the policies and everything is ok.
Everything went well.
Extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Helped us get our car right away. We were in and out very quickly. Misty is the best.
We used the airport parking service and shuttle service. Our driver Edward was very kind, friendly, professional and took great care with our baggage. 5 star service was given! Will definitely recommend and use again!!! Thanks Edward was going above and beyond ❤️
I had a bad experience with Routes. They redirected me back to the terminal once I arrived at the rental car place. I specifically stated that I am at the rental car center, which delayed my trip for two hours. They charge you for everything. They charged me from driving to Illinois to Wisconsin. I thought they were cheaper, but they are not once they add all the fees. I reached out to express my frustration, and they said, "you signed up for this and go away." They do not take care of the customer nor want to take care of you. In fact, the vehicle of an SUV was replaced by a jeep. Do not rent from them at all.
Worst experience! The service is terrible. The customer service is awful, they invent last-minute fees and make unauthorized charges.
