Review summary

Rightio receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from customers, with many expressing frustration over high fees and poor communication. Numerous reviewers describe the company as a "scam," citing unexpected charges, such as £226 for an estimate, and a lack of follow-through on promised services. Customers report long wait times for emergency plumbing, with some waiting hours without any response. However, there are a few positive mentions of the engineers themselves, who are described as helpful and friendly, providing quick service when they do arrive. Despite these isolated positive experiences, the majority of reviews highlight significant dissatisfaction with Rightio's reliability and transparency. Overall, the sentiment is predominantly negative, with many customers advising against using the service.

Advised emergency appointment (boiler…

Advised emergency appointment (boiler repair) would be same day, within 1-2hrs to visit my elderly Mother Rang back after 3hrs to-be informed no availability, and would be 48hrs later for an Engineer to visit. Interestingly, I was then informed (by Jane) that the Sales Agent (Gareth) had no visibility of live diary slots It seems the “sales” approach is dishonest, unethical and expensive at the time a vulnerable person was left a further 3hrs without hot water or heating I requested the address to register a complaint, from Jane. I shared this 4 business days ago and yet, still no reply Thankfully I got a local expert to repair the boiler, within 1hr of calling and significantly less in cost. Very disappointing sales strategy, and no care for the well being of their customers. Felt appropriate to share this poor experience so others, are not put in a vulnerable or misleading position

Do not use!!!

Unfortunately I cannot give less than 1 star! We were charged £200 ‘accidentally’ by the engineer when he came to look at our boiler. He apologised and told us to contact customer services to get a refund or it could be knocked off the bill if we went ahead with the work. As is the case for most people we do not have a spare £200 we can afford to lose because of an error by the company. We did not get the work done by the company and contacted customer services for a refund. We have been denied our refund on multiple occasions. I made multiple phone calls and sent emails with no response. I had to chase up every contact to get someone to get back to me. Engineers were really friendly but the customer service/complaints team is the worst I’ve ever dealt with and it has been very stressful.

Avoid at all costs

Avoid at all costs. Showed up to fix a leaking radiator without any basic replacement parts fix the problem. No valves or washers. Nothing. Told us they’d have to go out and get materials but that would take us over the one hour billed (already at £170) plus the cost of any materials. Spent ten minutes ‘fixing’ the issue. Radiator is still leaking. Absolute joke.

Wow !!! Contacted a local plumber £ 700 supplied and fitted incl vat . They still charged us £ 258 to look at it. Both of us are pensioners I felt robbed

Call extortionate prices quoted - Stay Local

Called to book an appointment for a boiler service, was advised a weekend - Saturday appointment would be at an additional higher rate of 179.00 - way too expensive, I declined the appointment to be offered a discounted price of 69.00+vat for the same appointment! My usual plumber is booked for the next few weeks - I will wait for my usual 50.00 appointment

Poor Plumbing Work on Kitchen Tap

Saw Rightio in local magazine for NG9 area with local Nottingham area code so phoned them for help with dripping kitchen tap. Was asked for my Credit Card number. Plumber came a few days later and said it needed a new tap. Later on discovered it was dripping much more and now into the area under the sink. Patched it up with duct tape as was expecting plumber to return and fix it in just a few days. Payment so far was for just over £170 + VAT. I got text message from bank to say payment rejected, but as it was for the right amount I accepted it. I assume Rightio had used the card number with an invalid PIN (maybe 0000?). Why had Rightio not told me how it would be dealt with? Plumber was supposed to appear again in near future to complete the job with payment to be just under £170 + VAT. But he didn't appear within expected timescale so phoned Rightio on same local number and was told he hadn't got the new tap yet. Gave up at this point as didn't want to spend more money for possible poor work and/or slightly iffy payment processing. Communication by text messages very poor as although I received their text messages OK there was no text box for me to reply or create a new message for them. I've never exerienced this situation with only one-way texting where I expect it to be two-way. In general they appear to be only interested in making money (and why not?) but could not care less how they treat customers.

Disorganised and unhelpful

Although the work was was completed, my experience with the office was nothing but dreadful. I called on a Friday as my boiler stopped working and I had no heat or hot water. I was told an engineer would come on Monday afternoon between 12 and 5 to fix the issue I waited in and rang at 4 to get an update to be told that the engineer was stuck on a job and would have to come on Tuesday between 10 and 12. The next day, the engineer didn't come in the alloted time, I told the office I was at work and would not be able to answer the phone to confirm someone was in. I was still called to confirm and initially, the engineer said he wouldn't come as no one had answered the phone. He did come in the end and diagnosed the issue (didn't fix it as stated originally). I was then given a slot on Friday between 1pm and 5pm. Again, the engineer did not arrive as he was "stuck on a job". I was told there was nothing the office could do as engineers aren't available on weekends. I was promised that I would be the first job on Monday morning and given a slot between 8 and 10. On Monday, the engineer didn't arrive. Again I wasn't told proactively but had to call to find out he was "stuck in a job". He ended up arriving at 10:45. The job was completed and the engineer was great. When I called and questioned why I wasn't prioritised, the call handler could only tell me she didn't know why. The engineer told me he had been on a job with an active leak and that had to be prioritised. In the entire process, I asked to speak to a manager 3 times and only on the final time did I get a call back from one. All they offered me was a 10% discount on labour and an apology.

Worst lock company I have ever dealt with

Don't touch this company...they charged me £250.80 to come to look at broken lock...didn't bring any locks with them???and put tempory barrel on...took 10 mins. Should have been able to fit new lock in under an hour...Said would ring back Monday with quote to put new lock on...£470...I told them no..I could have had a whole new door for that price... I would go somewhere else...they then sent me bill saying job complete...but they hadn't been back... and pay bill of £369.55 then said they had tried to take the money from my account which is fraud because I told them not to proceed and they used my bank details from first transaction...fraud...i had contacted my bank and cancelled my debit card...then they sent me another bill for £184.78 and said details of bill will be sent after I had paid bill....they also threatened to send me into debt..DONT TOUCH THIS COMPANY

Thieves, basically.

We moved into our house and the first day, the boiler's not working. Unfortunately for us, Rightio is the first company that answers when I ring. A bloke came out the same day and we got charged over £500 for his labour and a part. The part doesn't show up for a week or more (there was no time frame on this and I had to ring for an update in which they told me it'll come when it comes), the bloke comes and installs it. He says its all good and leaves. The hot water is only intermittent (it felt hot for a little but would go cold quickly) and the heating still didn't work. So I ring back, he comes back out roughly another week later. This time he says the boiler will need more and more work, its too old. As part of the guarantee on the job, Rightio offers me a discounted boiler of four grand. I found the same boiler and installation for half the price elsewhere and Rightio refused to give me a refund, despite the job they charged me for not working. I'm told I can't get a refund because they needed to do the 500 quid job to find out I'd need the 4 grand job. Sounds like a good way to bleed money out of people! The engineer who came was a really nice bloke who did try very hard for us and did speak on our behalf to Rightio, but I'd say beyond that they're a very expensive company (if I hadn't been desperate and done more research I'd have found plenty of companies cheaper and better; more fool me of course) and when I was trying to talk about a refund I got moved to department to department for ages, they kept sending me back to someone trying to sell me on the four grand boiler instead of discussing the refund, and then told me the refund process would be 10 working days, this distended into 21 days just to review it and not get the decision. It seems like a company constantly trying to upsell and already charging alot and obfuscating any path to resolution. I'd avoid them, there'll be someone cheaper and better out there.

Not recommended

On the plus side, the plumber arrived very quickly although the two jobs were not urgent - radiator valve rusted and seized open and mixer tap assembly loose, with corroded fixings. This was in a newly-purchased house. Removed and replaced the valve but didn’t fix the tap since any work could have made it worse. Suggested replacement with a new tap but we didn’t like the type he showed us that he had in his van. Took 27 minutes which cost £215. The quoted £159 hourly charge (which was already steep) did not include VAT, which we were not told about in the phone call. The telephone contact person spent a lot of time trying to get me to take out a maintenance contract. She was obviously on commission. I would not recommend this company. Their ad featured in a local neighbourhood magazine and I’d assumed it was a local company. Not so.

Avoid!!! They wired the cooker hood in reverse!!!

I called Rightio to fit a cooker extractor hood and they sent a gas engineer who claimed the "the electrics have a fault" and left. I was charged £200 for this and noone was sent to rectify the problem. When I managed to get a local electrician to come and have a look the gas engineer had wired the hood up in reverse hence the electrical issue. I tried to contect a manager to get a refund but was told there was no manager in the office. I would read through these reviews very carefully before choosing to use this company...

I would strongly advise both customer and new Employees to stay clear of this company

I would strongly advise both customers and potential employees to avoid this company. From the inside, it’s clear that there is no moral compass guiding how this business operates. Customers are regularly misled, particularly around VAT, which is not made clear upfront and feels intentionally vague until payment is due. This lack of transparency borders on deceptive and leaves customers feeling ripped off. Staff treatment is equally poor. Employees are paid minimum wage with no incentives, no recognition, and no real support. Expectations are high, but respect is nonexistent. Morale is low for a reason. Advertising does not match reality. What is promised to customers often differs from what is actually delivered, creating frustration on both sides and leaving staff to deal with the fallout. To make matters worse, there is no proper parking provided, forcing staff to park on nearby residential driveways and streets, creating tension with local residents — an issue the company clearly has no interest in resolving. Overall, this is a company that prioritises profit over people, honesty, and ethics. I would not recommend engaging with them in any capacity.

AVOID AVOID AVOID

An elderly family member contacted this company to get a toilet seat replaced and two taps looked at which were dripping. Due to a death in the family, she didn't want to bother anyone so did this herself. Usually we handle these things for her but she didn't want to bother anyone. She was charged almost £200! The toilet seat was also provided by her and he was in the house less than 20 minutes. The taps were not fixed and could not be fixed as the guy didn't have the parts. He advised her she would have to pay extra to have him come back and fix them. Absolutely ludicrous. Once we found out, I contacted the company and they were less than helpful. They advised they would not be amending the bill she paid and didn't appear vulnerable. Disgusting company, please don't give them your money.

The plumber was very efficient

The plumber was very efficient seem to spend a lot of his time on his tablet. Did a good job but the charge was horrendous as l had to pay for two hours when the job only took 12 minutes over the hour! Perhaps it is the company’s policy to make sure the work goes over the hour to get another hours pay for 12 minutes very sharp practice. I was charged an extra £151 for the extra 12 minutes not a company l can recommend

Phoned at around 7pm about a problem

Phoned at around 7pm about a problem, was informed that someone was on their way. After 2 hours I phoned back for an update only to find the office was shut. And at 10.40 am the following day I received a text, when I tried to reply my message was undelivered. The message they sent said “ Hello, unfortunately we have had to cancel your job. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused” Luckily I called someone else out who was with me with 30 minutes. Absolutely disgusted with the level of service Rightio provided or shall I say not provided.
