Review summary

Food Lion receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from customers, with many expressing dissatisfaction with the quality of food and the overall shopping experience. Reviewers frequently report issues with spoiled products, such as moldy bread and poor-quality deli items, leading to frustration and loss of trust in the store. Additionally, long checkout lines and unhelpful staff attitudes contribute to a negative atmosphere, with several customers noting rude interactions and inadequate service. While some shoppers appreciate the prices and selection, these positives are overshadowed by the recurring complaints about food quality and customer service. Overall, the sentiment is predominantly negative, reflecting significant room for improvement in both product offerings and staff engagement.

Food Lion:unhappy staff and value drop

I notice the staff tries to deal with the stocking and quality issues customers bring to them, especially because I'm understanding to how difficult retail can be they get it when I ask questions, but it's like their hands are tied and they've given up most of the time. I've heard them say they "will try but it probably won't do any good" and similar wording. The quality has dropped like other stores I've been to. Prices inched up, packages shrank, items are constantly out of stock..like unsweetened almond milk and heavy whipping cream. Many store brand items run out of stock and only the smallest organic size will be available in number so it makes me think...are they stocking the items that makes the highest profit and decreases customer selection because people need to buy staple items or are manufacturers switching what brands get better access to the raw product?..who knows the real answer it's just my observation and it's common to see this at many other locations I've been to in Hampton Roads and Southside Virginia. Happy staff and Value are getting harder to find.

Food Lion Store #0930Some Old People Sometimes Need Not Reenter the Workforce.

Food Lion Store #0930, 481 East Broad Ave., Rockingham, NC, (910)997-7468 has a terrible need for customer service training. My niece walked in today, 5/3/2024, to pick up a few items, and she was wearing her mask which her reasons are her business like the other folks and even some of the store employees who were also wearing masks. This old white female precedes to make this asinine statement, "I don't need to wear a mask, I just need to behave myself." And when a co-worker asked her,"Who?" The old bitty points directly at my niece. This was ignorant and uncalled for as there were plenty of other people wearing a mask. I assume the bat was jealous because my niece is young and firm while this old hag is not only not aging with dignity but with no grace whatsoever. I recognize ignorant behavior like this has to do more with the offender than their victim, but my niece nor any other customer is responsible for her low self-esteem or her inability to stay firm in certain places as she gets older. I don't know about you, but I don't go in and help pay folks' minimum wage paychecks to be insulted for just walking in. To me, though, this reflects poorly on the store's management and, obvious, lack of providing customer service training for their staff. If you are not happy working in a customer-service job, go sling them low hanging tits on the corner somewhere. I'm sure some desperate crackhead would give you a few dollars to use your dirty mouth for something better than talking trash about a paying customer minding their own business.

If I have to pay Harris Teeter prices

If I have to pay Harris Teeter prices, I’ll go to Harris Teeter. FL employees hate their jobs and block aisles constantly with no concern for the customers. Selection is decreasing on items I am accustomed and comfortable buying. Had a good run with Food Lion but it appears it’s over. So long…

The pick up service at the Columbia NC…

The pick up service at the Columbia NC store in the past has broken missing and thawed out items. Orders were given to the wrong customer and mgmt refused to refund money. The service will not shop for certain customers once they know who they are shopping for rude cashiers and a lack of stock.

Bacons Bridge Road Summerville SC

Bacons Bridge Road Summerville SC Rude employees and will argue with you over a price. Lady in customer service complains out loud that she has to help people instead of talking to friends. Old cashier that works morning yelled at me and when I told her the price was wrong she said it is what it rings up and moaned that she had to call customer service which was more rude with food all in her mouth. This is the worst location and I will drive further next time to go to a Food Lion that is friendly and helpful.

It’s best to shop for your own groceries! Tired or not!

My husband and I love Foodlion, what we don’t love is Instacart the workers need more training on how to shop as in what to look for etc. I’m sure I’m not the only one who works everyday 40 hrs a week and just want to relax on the weekends or catch up on house work, no time to go grocery shopping so we “trust” online grocery shopping from time to time which is very convenient. Today, I ordered groceries online and had them delivered. After getting them in the house I noticed 2 of my meats that I use to season my food were no good. I had pork fatback and Hobe’s sliced ham hock first of all the vacuum sealed pack wasn’t sealed (as if there was a hole in it) and the sliced ham hock was molded. “Very visible” who gets groceries and not notice things like this? I was very disappointed because I felt like the shopper clearly didn’t care what he gave me, I’m almost positive he would not have taken this home to his family to cook and eat. These days not only do people not want to work- they don’t care either.

Labeling and Discrimination

At 18:48, 26 Apr 24 the cashier in register #1, Store #0420 located at 3808 Guess Rd Durham NC discriminated me and treated me like a thief. I had three items on my hands and ask for a lighter, she asked me to put the item at the registered, scanned the items, put in the plastic bag away from me and then left to get the lighter. After I paid, I stated I had to go back because I forgot to buy something and she said I must leave my shopping bag with her (after I have paid for it). It immediately triggered me and I said “Ma’am, if my intent was to steal something, I would put it in my bag (a tactical bag I had with me) and she said “I know you will” I asked for a manager, but no one responded (even knowing there was who appeared to be a supervisor witnessing everything). I told her she cannot be treating customers like that and calling them thieves, to which she replied I was the one calling myself a thief. 1. As a Latino, this is a clear sign of discrimination and targeting. 2. Food Lions does not have a policy which prohibits customers with entering the premises with bags; otherwise, people could not come in with purses, backpacks, tactical bags, etc 3. The premise does not have locker equipment to support (if any at the time) a no bag policy. 4. Employee action was a clear indication of targeting and labeling with no facts or evidence to support such action As a Latino who served our nation for 20 years in the Army, I feel discriminated, humiliated and labeled as a thief

Food Lion 1692

Nice store until you check out. Always something that rings up incorrectly. Front end staff is rude and always complaining to each other. When you ask for price correction you get a terrible attitude and I was literally told to go shop somewhere else by the office person waiting on me. Store Manager was present and said absolutely nothing to either staff or me. A simple ‘I’m sorry’ from management would have gone a long way.

I was on vacation, camping at a nearby campground, and stopped in too purchase a few items, and saw that the store sold wine,so I picked up a couple bottles,I paid for my purchase, and left the store,as I was leaving the cart at the cart corral, the bag I had the wine in ripped, and one of the bottles of wine fell out and busted on the parking lot,,I went back into the store too Inform someone what had happened,so they could clean it up,before someone slashed there tire,or someone stepped on the broken glass, i went too customer service where an older lady and a young male employee were standing around,I preceded too explain too the lady what had happened.i expected her too send someone out right away, like the kid who was just hanging out,or God forbid, that she went out and cleaned it out herself, her response was I will tell Mr.so and so,I was like ok,it's on her if someone gets hurt,I did.my part by letting them know what happened,I wasn't sure what the stores policy on replacing damaged merchandise was,I asked about getting another bottle of wine or a refund, she looked at me chuckled and In a very superior and demeaning tone said "we didn't break it",I was like you don't have too.be rude.she looked at the other employee and asked him.if he thought she eas being rude, wich i.consdired too be.rude as well, beings that I was the customer, and the one she was being rude too,and the other employees opinion as roo whether she was being rude was completely irrelevant. I told her I was very disappointed in her attitude, and that i.wss just trying too.do.the right thing by informing them of the incident, and didn't expect too be treated so rudely for.my efforts

Used to be a good store

I've gone to the store in Wedgewood Plaza in ,Norfolk VA for years and it has gone downhill. Not clean or stocked, aisles full of stock and employees texting. Produce area has wilted vegetables and smells bad. Sad thing is some of the cashiers are very nice. clearly not managed well.

Foodlion 1240

I love the Food Lion on Forest Hill Avenue. I think they said the store number was 1240. But anyway, every time I come in all the associates are so friendly and helpful. Always willing to do what they can to help out and are always so well kept and neat looking. The only gripe I have is that they have trouble keeping things in stock but they always apologize profusely if they don't have something. 10/10 please learn from this example.

Absolutely no Customer Service (they actually had a sign!)

3/21/2024 several months ago the FL creamer disappeared off the shelves. When it came back my husband bought as much as he could (that’s the only creative used for years). Well the new stuff is nasty! Took it back today. There was a sign on the front of Customer Service stating it was closed. (I believe this to be an understatement!). The woman in self checkout was standing there and I asked about a return. She asked if I could read the sign. Her attitude irritated me more than the sign! I then asked why it was closed. “The woman that worked that counter was busy making a schedule and couldn’t be disturbed!!!!” Told her I was busy trying to be a customer but it wasn’t going to last long. She told me to take it to a cashier…cashier was CLUELESS on doing a refund. I told her to get it figured out why I shopped for a few things. In the back of the store I came across the manager. Told him how I felt and the woman in self checkout needed to learn a new line. She had done nothings but antagonize the situation. He was up front to do the refund but didn’t give me as much as I’m sorry for the inconvenience, kiss my a$$, comeback again, or stay away. I think stay away is the solution. They had no creamer, cheese and I guess I should have checked the toilet paper. They can close this store..it won’t be missed!

GIFT CARD RIPOFF

my total was 230. i had a gift card i got for christmas from a friend. I told the cashier i had one for 75. She took it and charged me 75 then said my total was 305. I told her i was not buying it but cashing it in... a manager came and said i had to swipe it. i did and it did take off the75 and the total was the starting price of 230. When i told her i was charged 75 to much they argued that it right. Went back and talked to another so called manager and she said it looked like i bought and used a gift card on the transaction. I explained to her what happened so she manually added all the prices and said it was right 305... she said a gift card cannot be activated twice and that would mean the clerk would have to ring in 75.... SHE DID. She never even asked the cashier and just walked away ... Rude and stupid is what she is. 230 minus 75 is not 230..They need to hire people who listen and can add
