Very rude operator who asked me to…

Very rude operator who asked me to repeat what I was saying 5 times then she hung up on me

A very strange case

A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????

Closed down by Ofgem.

Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Shocking - Avoid at all costs or it'll cost you!!

Shocking, can't get in touch with anyone via phone and very slow on emails. I'm changing company as they put my bill up to £600 a month for both when my readings were always under the estimates but were not logged on phone or online. Got a final bill of £1200 on a number plucked from the sky with a threat of legal action as I stopped my direct debit. Glad I did or I would have paid £1800 and be fighting to get that back. Still waiting on a final bill which have been told could take 6-8 weeks, unsure why as they have my changeover readings although electric seems to have not been logged again. Ridiculous lure you in on a cheap price, you stay within range and they keep on hiking the bills. Avoid at all costs!!

We were in credit by £332 with electric…

We were in credit by £332 with electric and £359 with gas - kept putting direct debits up and not refunding the credit on account since last March. Massively over inflated final bill before going bust to look like we owe them £550 now...... Its such a fraud. I sent them actual readings on 6th December which haven't been used to estimate the bill at all. What a bunch of scammers - I can only hope it all gets sorted with Ovo. A learning experience as I would have never thought an energy supplier be able to get away with this.

After economy went bust

After economy went bust, I received a final bill in which they had "read" my meter 1000 units higher than my actual reading resulting in a bill which said I owed 200 quid. Not at all surprised they are no more.

Liar liar pants on 🔥

Economy energy is the best provider of energy that I have ever been with. Not once did their customer services ever mislead or lie to me about a refund that I was due . They cared about their customers so much that they sent people round on special days to make them dinner and then they would have a wee sing along and a wee drink . Happy days . Honestly, I don’t know why people are writing all these negative reviews about such a wonderful, well run company.

Get a Grip of your finances

It took me less than five minutes to cancel my Direct Debit with Economy Energy back in August. I then paid for what I used monthly by credit card. I really have no sympathy towards those who whinge on here that EE has over billed them. Do they leave their front doors open and then complain they have had items stolen? Get a grip you only have yourselves to blame but in this case OFGEM will ensure OVO transfers your credit balance.

Fraudulant billing

Fraudulant billing. Never have used my readings or actual readings for my bills. They always create inflated estimates just before they create a bill. They owe me a lot of money. They even sent my personal details to an incorrect address due to a typing error whilst they set up my account. Now moved to First Utility who are just outside the big 6 so will get a much better service. Forget looking at the cheap ones as they do not offer value for money like EE. Feel free to use this referal link to get a £50 voucher. Jusy remove the spaces from the link. https:// firstutility. mention-me.com /m/ol/ou5eb-paul-davies

Nightmare Economy Energy

Same experience here of this shambles of a company, as everyone else has had! Gas & Elec accounts in credit for over 12 months, and no refund given despite requesting this. Fobbed off on the phone by being told that accounts are reviewed at the end of the month and if a credit is owed, then it will be sent out, only to find that they then wildly over estimate your next bill to avoid having to refund you! They ignore the customer supplied meter readings to their own advantage - they're only interested in hiking up your DD cost and keeping your growing credit balance in their account! I wanted to leave back in Sept but would have been hammered with a £50 exit fee for gas & elec. I heard they were going bust just before Christmas - nightmare company to try to deal with. Unfortunately I couldn't leave a zero rating. Just biding my time till I can claim the credit from OVO/Ofgem and switch supplier finally.

Fraudulent company

Fraudulent company? Owed over £606 pounds since September. Repeatedly promised call backs and they never came. Email to the CEO on Dec 18th finally replied to on 10th January conveniently saying “sorry we’ve gone bust but your credit balance is protected”. The CEO should be sent to jail. If any of its 230,000 customers failed to pay a bill for 12 weeks you’d be in court. Ofgem need to take a serious look at the ponzi scheme that Eco Energy became.

I was lucky- took them to the small claims court and they paid up

I switched from Economy Energy several months after a swingeing price increase only one month after I had moved to a new tariff. After getting agreed initial readings from my new supplier I was still awaiting a refund of over £400, made higher because Economy Energy kept taking direct debits after I had switched, even sending a threatening letter within 24 hours after I had, with good cause, cancelled my DD. Many calls and web chats failed to give a firm timetable for the return of my money. I gave them one last chance to come up with a timetable for payment otherwise I would take court action. Despite promising to do so they did not give me a date so I went online and lodged a small claims court action for what they owed me plus interest and my fees. They settled fully without question the next day! All so unnecessary. A few hours investigation on the Internet had led me to believe that they were going bust. The obvious signs were there - almost every director had resigned, several dreary and long-winded Ofgem investigations were in progress and a business plan that relied on advanced customer payments to fund growth - a classic Ponzi scheme. Fine when customer numbers were growing but not sustainable in a growth downturn. If I could so easily spot that this firm was collapsing what on earth was the Regulator doing? My advice to anyone in a similar situation with an energy supplier which won’t give you your money back is to use use the Small Claims Court rather than ombudsmen or regulators once your reasonable efforts to gain redress from the supplier have failed. Odds on that you’ll end up in court to get your money back anyway. They get two stars because the service was ok when I was with then, other than giving me my money back, and the staff were generally pleasant even though powerless to help. I feel very sorry that so many will have lost their jobs. I hope that the controlling directors face a full investigation of their conduct, however.

Where do I start

Where do I start? Been with these since 2015, had a smart meter installed in 2017 when I went into credit mode. Paid enough via direct debits to cover my monthly payments. Then a year later I get an electricity bill for £800 for the period I was on a prepayment meter. What On earth? Several phone calls later I discover the same with my gas. One day I was 200 in credit the next £500 in debt again from a time I was on prepayment meter. I have spent hours on the phone being fobbed off, sent numerous emails and nothing. The last I heard they admitted it was an error and would be sorted. Well it hasn’t and I’m worried the new supplier will think I’m in debt. I feel sick 🤢
