Economy Energy has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.
Very rude operator who asked me to repeat what I was saying 5 times then she hung up on me
A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Since my comments below and the request to send an email with my contact details, where EE publicly promised here they would call me back, they haven't. Direct debit cancelled for very good reasons. I am now receiving threatening letters by email saying my credit record will be dented if I don't get in touch with them and pay what they think is due (and is in dispute). This is after they have said they will be calling me to resolve matters. Guardian has them down as potentially being in financial difficulties. Check out the articles on 16th and 28th December 2018. My latest email to them, for which I have had no response (notwithstanding the seasonal break). "Dear Kara I am now receiving threatening letters from your organisation despite your request via trust pilot for me to get in touch with you, as I have done below. You volunteered a call back to me if I let you have the details below. Your company has been suspect with respect to the meter readings it has presented to me, indicating I am in arrears (which I doubt) but at a time when also it has been noted in the national media you may be entering financial difficulties. It is prudent, therefore, with an open direct debit, to stop your direct access to my bank account. Contrary to the attached email it is NOT my intention not to pay you; quite the reverse as you will be paid all sums due and agreed. However, I now resent such threatening letters and will clearly have to appeal should you mark my credit reference in the circumstances where you have volunteered to call me and I am still awaiting that call. Regards" They have the contact details, they have made their promises, it's up to them. Stay away.
Incompetent company overestimating readings even when they get actual one, first they played with gas bill now, with both. They own me 101£ overcharged for electricity instead of sending me money back they ask for 393£ after overstate the counter. Also recently the price was increased at least double and I wasnt informed about it ,I prefer not to pay them more then I own as maybe they plan scam exit, and Im going to switch to another provider asap. (
I have written to Ofgem multiple times about EE's incompetent and, more importantly, malign behaviour but they will not discuss what they are doing about it with mere members of the public. After 3 months of waiting I reclaimed my credit balance by invoking the direct debit guarantee. Anyone owed money who has paid by DD should do the same by phoning their bank. The guarantee is absolute so your bank cannot refuse. You will be asked for a reason which is "over-payment". Following this EE has now re-billed my gas for the whole 18 months I was with them. They have applied a higher rate (that I never agreed to) to a period in the middle of the 18 months and now claim that I owe them money. I have made a complaint, which I will take to the ombudsman in due course. To anyone thinking of joining EE - Don't. To anyone who is already grappling with them please write to Ofgem, newspapers, etc.
After my last review they got in touch and promise to resolve the issue guess what still waiting got my final gas bill on the 13 dec phoned for my refund got told they could not refund me till I get my final electricity bill a new one on me they know what they are doing the ombudsman service takes so long they know nothing will happen for months they are a joke
This isn't just a bad company, it's an illegal operation that should be shut down. With nearly 2000 complaints to the energy ombudsman, articles in newspapers and thousands of angry people, Economy Energy is the worst company that I've dealt with. 12 weeks after switching to another supplier I am still waiting for a refund for over £230. This seems to be standard practice as the company is reported to be struggling for cash flow and is holding onto customer money in order to stay afloat. Who knows if I'll ever see my money again
Theives. No other word for them- just look at all these reviews where they iwe people money and my mum and dad are one of them. September last year they noticed that they were in credit with economy energy by £800 yet the company still took the direct debut wvwry month deapite this. They asked fir a tefund which they said they would do but of course they didnt. My mum and dad left them middle of October and after ee produced a final bill they owed my mum and dad iver £1018 Absoloutly shocking. We have been trying to get this money back for weeks ( over 10 now ) all we get is the same excuse that it is with the refund department daybin day out- no one takes responsibilty for it- they have now had to eaculate this with the ombudsman to get their money back just like a lot of other people have to do- if that does not work we will take them to court. Do not go with this company they are complete theives. My mum and dad are pensioners so really need this money.
If you want to spend you life phoning and logging complaints about the poor service a company provides then go ahead and join this supplier. They have a customer care team who don't listen and cannot answer the simplest of questions, and a non existent complaints process. They are not capable of the simple job of taking and billing for correct reads let alone anything more complex. Join this supplier at your peril!!!!!! BTW, I cannot remember the last time I complained about a company or organisation, I am not a habitual complainer but just had to put pen to paper about the totally unsatisfactory service, or lack of service, they provide.
Well what can you say about Economy Energy? Nothing as it's all bad. I left this cowboy company 4 months ago and they hounded me for £4.50. Calling me twice a day for 3 weeks. Then when enquired about what they owed me. It went quite and they avoided all my questions. All they do is pass you from department to department,in order to avoid paying what they owe. It's been 4 months and still no money and still avoiding to pay. Stay well clear of this cowboy company and rip off merchants. DO NOT JOIN THIS COMPANY.
Awful experience for the whole year I was with them. Now that I have left two months ago, I am in credit approximately £400 and just like everyone else am unable to get it refunded. No matter how much they are saying you would save on a tariff with them, I promise it is not worth it. Stay well clear.
All was OK until I left. They contacted me and said I needed to pay approx £240 ( why they couldn't have adjusted y direct debit I do Not know). I paid them. They. Then phoned me to say they had taken the wrong amount. I paid this. They then continued to send me demands and telephone me. Whenever I spoke to them they confirmed that the account was paid (in fact it was overpaid). They still continued to send demands threatening debt collectors and phoning me when they would again agree that it was paid. Eventually I had enough and threatened them with legal action for harassment, They then sent me an email confirming that I had paid in full ........and then the following day sent me another demand. I complained to the ombudsman who found completely in my favour. He made a few awards including a financial one and that they should refund the overpayment. The company then had 28 days to complete all the remedies. Any sane company would want to protect their reputation. As it stands at the moment, the company have shown their utter contempt for both me and the ombudsman as the 28 days have elapsed and not one of the remedies has been implemented. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!! They are not worth the hassle.
