Economy Energy has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.
Very rude operator who asked me to repeat what I was saying 5 times then she hung up on me
A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????
Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Economy Energy owed me Β£400+ which it was not refunding despite numerous promises to do so. I solved the issue by ringing my bank and cancelling previous direct debit payments to Economy Energy totalling just over Β£400+. I told my bank that I had been overcharged by Economy Energy. If that option is available to you I think it is the simplest and fastest way to receive a credit from EE.

Switched to a new supplier 8th October, Economy Energy continued taking direct debits after the switch, and after a final bill had been produced. Messaged countless times asking for an updated final bill, one was finally uploaded however could not view it online due to an "error", spoke to a man who just kept telling me I was wrong and the original final bill DID include the 2 months of direct debits that were taken AFTER the date of the bill, and that I could view the most recent one online. 7th December I receive a letter threatening legal action against me for not paying "despite reminders" - still haven't even seen a correct bill let alone getting reminders to pay it. Made a complaint immediately which their website says they will respond to in 10 working days. 2nd January now and still waiting. Absolute joke of a company, worst I have experienced. Just greatful it is not them owing me money as I would never get it back! AVOID!!!

Having read all the other complaints, which is the same boat as myself, owed over Β£430, with the company direct debiting me for 3 months when I was with another company. Is this not robbery, and needs people to be arrested and brought to task. - Probably not in this country !

This is the first time l ever written a review on any company. But my experience with Economy Energy is the worst l have ever had with an energy company. I need a meter changing the second one in to months. After them insisting that l tried three new electric keys which cost me money which l doubt l will get back? I have been told by them that l have to stay in the property this evening with no lights or heating as the engineer cannot possibly ring me 10 mins before he gets to property or anytime before hand or when he gets to property as l staying with a friend two minutes away from the property. All l can say is l would not recommend this company to anyone and as soon as l get the meter changed l will be changing company. If l could give them no stars l would as two stars is rating them far too highly! The sooner l get away from this company the better.

I have now had to go through the time and effort of a small claims procedure against EE as they are complete charlatans and this seems to be the only thing left. I have sent over 20 emails - the last month most of them unanswered - and phoned several times. Luckily I am only owed Β£200 - fairly small compared to some of the customers on here. I advise everyone else to follow this procedure - relatively painless and hopefully will be successful. Although it shouldn't be necessary for you to have to do this to get back money that is owed by a supposedly reputable company - I am certain if any of their customers owed them money they would treat them dreadfully until they got it back! Shame on you EE.
