Con Merchants On taking an annual learner driver policy out we were told we would be refunded the months we did not use on cancellation. Cancelled today after 6 months and despite paying £232 for the year we are told after £40 cancellation fee there is no refund due despite there being 6 months of the policy left. Clearly their maths is different to everyone else’s! Complete con merchants would not recommend to anyone. Per the reply. The money was never the issue. No mention of the £70 broker fee was made on either taking out the policy or cancelling it. I clearly missed that bit in the documentation, my mistake. There is still a £6 discrepancy even after your ridiculous ££110 cancellation charge perhaps you can give that to charity as a way of showing you are not the appalling outfit I still believe you to be.

This insurance may be helpful for someone who is likely to need a year or more to pass their driving test. For everyone else, avoid like the plague. My son was insured just over 3 months then passed his test. At that point the insurance is cancelled. Their extortionate charges (passed as several forms of charge additions) amounted to 80% of the balance so for a payment of £260, I received £36 back after just over 3 months. Daylight robbery although hidden in the small print. Beware. They replied saying read the smallprint. Therefore justifying unfair charging. Only use if you are UNLIKELY to pass your test.

Disgraceful Behaviour. To charge a cancellation fee of £40 and refuse to rebate for the unused term of the insurance is nothing more than money grabbing. The insurance is for Learner Drivers the majority of whom will pass their tests within the term of insurance. Only company that has ever done this within my family.

I paid for the insurance in full, then when my daughter passed her test they told me to cancel to get a new quote. Having done that they then told me they were charging me £40 for cancelling the insurance, disgusting. Don't get conned like me, look elsewhere. If I can save at least one person from experiencing this, then I've done my job.

Poor Learner Insurance We took out my daughters provisional insurance with Collingwood. I paid the initial monthly payment of £52, 4 weeks later my daughter passed her driving test, I phoned to cancel but this was on the day the next £52 was due, they would not refund this amount, they then asked for another £109 which was a percentage of the remaining balance, so I ended up paying £213 for one months cover. Surely as provision driver insurance, this should be rolling as at some point they will all need to cancel their policy!! I made a complaint but this made no different. Very unhappy would not use again.

Great staff and service. It was hard to find a good quote being a new driver. I would like to thank the great friendly staff especially Lisa for helping me to find the best suitable quote for me. Highly recommended.

AVOID DO NOT USE THIS JOKE OF A COMPANY....!! £40 CANCELLATION CHARGE when you pass your test...!!! They're a learner driver company so they stitch everyone up £40 when you pass...will not be using for my next child....!!! I took out my learner car insurance with Collingwood, the representative was call Leslie (Les). OMG. He is the best, I rarely speak with someone this hilarious and understanding and knowledgeable Wish all reps were like him. I really enjoyed talking to Les. Thank you Les you are a good rep. Keep up the good work.

Collingwood learners insurance, brilliant company, excellent customer service and open and honest with the handling of claims, I dealt with Andrew Cooling who was brilliant from start to finish, always helpful and able to assist when asked.... Would recommend Collingwood any day to anyone.

I have a policy with Collingwood and an email telling me they won’t defend a claim as I was on the road, a busy road I might add, so I am guilty. The third party has stated I hit their vehicle which I haven’t. I’ve asked for an inspection as my vehicle is brand new without a blemish but they have told me they are “just going to pay out as they don’t want to incur more cost” so it will be an increase in my insurance and a loss of all my no claims for something I haven’t done. Great insurance company. Even my broker is going at them.

This evening I spoke with "Michael Gilmore" at Collingwood Insurance Service - he made the process so easy took hi time and explained everything to my dad and myself. He is a credit to the comapny - loved his joke about Happy Gilmore! Price and cover offered was far better than we got anywhere else so would recommend to all based on the service over the phone. Call them and see what they can do for you especially if you are like me as a leanrer driver. THANKS MICHAEL!

Great peace of mind until you pass your test. I took the insurance out for my son, and paid the annual fee. Congratulations you’ve passed your test, your insurance is cancelled and you owe us £40. And before you reply with the standard response of ‘it was clearly set out in the information sent to you’, just because it is hidden in the terms & conditions does not make it clear. Only a precious few would think about the consequences of cancelling a policy when they take it out.
