Great experience overall, the car we rented (Toyota Aqua) was also very economical as it was a hybrid. The only thing that they could improve on was the pick up shuttle process, as we had to wait half an hour due to someone else (who didn’t follow pickup instructions) jumping the queue.

Filled out all of their required info in their online form in advance for quick check in. Total lie & waste of time. Still took 20 mins. to get my car. Unacceptable. My subcompact had tiny tyres. Less than a km from their office, I barely nicked one of those idiotic hard to see concrete barriers that abut the bike lanes in NZ & it blew out the tyre & slightly bent the rim. They charged me $250 NZ for the issue, got a new car & clearly told them to e-mail the repair invoice ASAP so I could submit it to my US based credit card company for reimbursement as that is one of their benefits as a customer of that bank & card. Almost a month later I e-mailed them that I needed the invoice immediately as my credit card company has a 30 day limit to submit a claim after a rental car related event. The next day they e-mailed me saying the repair hadn't yet been done due to the "holidays". Total BS. No way they would just let a rental sit unused during the busy holiday season for just installing a new tyre w/a new rim-that takes 30 mins. I know, I have done it many times before. A full month later I finally got the invoice after it was already too late to submit the claim. In fact, it was e-mailed over two weeks AFTER the invoice was dated! Unacceptable. Additionally, according to a locally based friend I have in Auckland they may be violating NZ labor laws as YES is Chinese owned & every employee I saw when I picked up the car & then dropped it off were Chinese & the same was true when I rented from them in Christchurch.
We haven’t picked up the car yet, but already concerned. We got a text message 7-8 hours before arrival in Auckland saying that the last shuttle to the Rental Depot leaves at 5.45pm. News to us and our flight lands at 5.40pm. Luckily we were only travelling from Melbourne. If it had been a longer trip we would have missed the message. The message also said call us ahead of time if you need a pick up after 6pm. We would have missed that too. Again all news to us. And lastly, there is a $45 fee to get to the car depot after 6pm. Or we can hang at the airport for the night and pick up the car tomorrow. So be wary using Yes Rentals - lots of hidden strings

Good service from Francis. They provided the off hour shuttle from the airport on time. Our rented car was Toyota Aqua and it was in good condition for us to explore Auckland and nearby cities. Highly recommended if you plan to rent a car in Auckland.
From start to finish the process was confusing and I had to check multiple times it wasn't a scam. Communication was patchy, and text messages and emails were difficult to read due to the extremely poor English. Some information was unclear and I was charged additional fees a week after returning the vehicle because it wasn't explained. When I asked for more information they were unable to explain in English. The facilities are run down, and the shuttle bus seemed dodgy. None of the logos on the signage matched, which made me think I was in the wrong place looking for a different company. The car itself only displayed Japanese language so the touchscreen and bluetooth were unusable. It's not worth it for the slightly cheaper price. I will be using a brand I know next time.
I had called and confirmed my rental the Monday before collection to check that car would be ready and confirmed the amount for payment at collection. Upon collection I was then informed there was another $250 bond to pay - which wasn't mentioned in the phone call that I made on the Monday before. Then the 2x women that I dealt with had a discussion (with me being the only one waiting for a vehicle in their portacom / reception area) in their “native” tongue. This was very disrespectful - and I brought that to their attention as I'm standing there listening to them and not understanding what they're talking about – knowing that they were talking about ME. At the time of bringing to their attention their rudeness for talking in their native tongue without using English - they proceeded to apologise in English and continue talking in English as I requested so that I could listen to what was going on. For a car rental company to have staff choose to communicate in another language purposely to bypass/talk without the hirer/ME understanding their communications was EXTREMELY rude! The car was awful. It was actually clean - but the radio and ability to sync with my phone wasn't ideal. They had multiple vehicles like the one that I hired - so they must just have a fleet of those cars. The shuttle to and from the airport was fine – lucky we were travelling within their opening hours – as I see from other hirers that they’re difficult to deal with outside of these hours. But then the wait upon drop off (to get back to the airport for our flight) was poor - and the waiting room was disgusting (there was a full bin with overflowing used nappies and Powerade bottles - YUCK!!) – I have photographic evidence – but don’t seem to be able to add a picture to my review. WE WILL NEVER EVER HIRE A VEHICLE FROM YES RENTALS AGAIN - AND WE WILL BE TELLING ANYONE ELSE WHO WILL LISTEN TO NOT USE THEM EITHER! WE HAVE DEFINATELY LEARNED OUR LESSON - CHEAPEST IS DEFINITELY NOT THE BEST WAY TO GO - AND WILL PAY MORE IN THE FUTURE TO USE A MORE REPUTABLE CAR HIRE COMPANY THAT WE CAN; A) COMMUNICATE WITH IN ENGLISH, AND B) HAS A PICKUP AND DROP OFF DIRECTLY AT THE AIRPORT!!! HEED OUR WARNING! PS: & the $250 bond that I've mentioned above - they take it immediately from your account - and then don't release it from your account for 5-7 days!!! Daylight robbery!!
Say No to Yes Car Rentals I rented a car from Yes Car Rentals in Christchurch, as part of my rental I took out full insurance (I do this with all the car I rent out) I then noticed in the terms and conditions that roadside recovery or assistance was not included in this insurance, when I asked about it I was told that I would need to pay up front for any roadside assistance needed on the vehicle. So basically no matter what is wrong with the car once they get it going it's your fault. Now I've never ever had to call roadside assistance for any car I've rented out (I've rented cars across Europe and the US) but unfortunately due to Yes Car Rentals using cars that are well beyond at least ten years old (ours was 15 years old) issues will arise. And low and behold ours had a battery connection issue, we rang to get help, I was told it would be up to six hours to get someone out to me, and that I needed to pay a minimum of $170 dollars for this service, when I asked why I was shouted at by the customer service assistant. Luckily our host was able to ring a local mechanic who came within 20 minutes, diagnosed the issue (a loose battery cable) fixed it and we were on our way $130 lighter. Now came the biggest issue, when I returned the car and was asked how the rental went I explained this and gave them a receipt for the call-out, I was then asked for a full roadside report on it to prove it wasn't their issue. They then claimed they sent a mechanic to me but they couldn't find me, this is not true as I have a mail from their car fleet manager telling me they cancelled it as they couldn't contact me. I then pointed out some issues with the car that I (and the mechanic who helped us) thought should be fixed before any further rental of the car happened. Tyres needed replacing, tracking was off, both doors needed to be looked at as they didn't open and close properly. This is when I had my second Yes Car rental employee shout and me and tell me I'm not a mechanic so I don't know what I'm talking about, I took a photo of the door not closing and said I've had enough and was leaving, this member of staff then refused to let me leave blocking my way on a public road and used his body to try and push me back, claiming I have taken a photo of him, which I hadn't. I showed him my phone before I was allowed to go on my way,. They may be very good if you have no issues but as soon as you have one, you are going to end up out of pocket. Stay away from this company, go to one of the companies that have a desk in the airport,
Yes I would use them again! Shuttle service for pick up and drop off car makes it so much easier. The best price around and there is nothing to complain about the car.
