Great teachers!

Kathrin has been an amazing teacher for the last year... Very friendly and engaging with the children and able to lead the lesson so that all the children get to improve and have a good time.

Excellent introduction to water no matter how young your baby

The swim instructors are fantastic, we had 2 in our time with water babies. From our first lesson when my little one was 6 weeks old to my last session when she was 8 months old. They were kind, helpful & most of all kept us safe in the water whilst having fun and bonding with our babies. It definitely helped my confidence & my little one has always loved the water & isn't scared at all. The only reason for 1 star short of 5 was the venue, because it is a private school it wasn't catered for the usual public swimming. So the changing facilities weren't set up with cubicles, showers, changing tables for babies etc. However, it was very local for us, so we were happy to compromise on this. We could have had lessons further afield with a more formal changing facility but this wasn't practical for us to travel.

Toria the waterbabies instructor at…

Toria the waterbabies instructor at jethen house is absolutely amazing!! She goes above and beyond to make parents and children feel comfortable, supported and heard. Nothing is too much trouble and any concerns you have regarding swimming with your little one is always taken into consideration and the support you didnt even know you needed is alway's given to make you feel confident and ready to swim with you baby. You can really tell the passion she has for waterbabies not only as an instructor but also as a parent who has been through it twice. Im so so glad I chose waterbabies and im so so glad we were put into Torias class.

Progressive and fun

Lessons are progressive and so much fun for me and my daughter. We have been attending since she was 12 weeks old and have no intentions to stop. The confidence gained in just 14 weeks is incredible. Lessons do tend to run late meaning we start later than expected, and this obviously will happen when dealing with children! but I have noticed that our session is occasionally cut five minutes short which is disappointing considering each session is over £20 for half hour.

Terrible experience

I wanted to try water babies with my 3 month old so I gave them a call. Unfortunately you have to pay for 8 lessons in advance to try it out. Whilst signing up they also take your bank details for direct debits, and made out to me that this was a must and part of their process. I went along with it hoping that we'd enjoy it, despite it being very expensive in my opinion. Our first 2 lessons were cancelled. He was 4 months when we started. I wasn't warned that he'd be dunked under the water on the first lesson. He didn't like it very much but wasn't too upset. The next lesson he cried and hated it. Then the next 2 lessons were again cancelled. The next lesson we went to he got upset again and got out half way through. I must say the teacher we had was lovely. But the whole company just seem to be only interested in money grabbing. I called them and said that I didn't want to continue after the 8 sessions and wanted a refund for the lessons that had been cancelled. I was told I could only have them credited. I knew this wasn't right and researched consumer rights. After several emails they reluctantly agreed to refund me for the 3 cancelled lessons. There were further cancellations after this. We only actually attended 3 out of 8. I did manage to get refunded for 4 in the end. I think my son may have got used to the classes if they were consistent but the continuous cancellations really didn't help. I did not like how unhelpful they were when it came to me requesting a refund. The pool was cold and the changing rooms weren't great. I wouldn't recommend water babies and I would not attend with any future babies. We get more out of swimming weekly at a local leisure centre at a fraction of the price!

What a fab organization!

Has built my daughters confidence so much swimming. All the teachers we have had have been lovely and go based on child's cues. We started her swimming at 8 weeks old and is nearly 3. What a fantastic organization waterbabies is!

S*** Sickness Policy

We have been going to waterbabies for nearly 6 months and our experience this morning has completely ruined our experience with them. My boy has never missed a class and this morning he is unwell with a fever. We had to miss the class as he was too unwell. I informed our area and was told we would not get a catch up lesson for him. So we were still charged and no lesson. Our area gave us a call and explained that we could of still brought him swimming even if he was unwell.... wow. As a health care professional, this is definitely not advised and this now concerns me with their knowledge of child safety in the water. This wouldnt of been good for him and equally would of spread the virus to other children. They explained that the sickness has been 'abused' in the past, so we have to suffer the consequences. It should be case by case not applied to everyone. I was told we could get a catch up class if we had taken him on holiday... absolute rubbish The lessons are expensive and overpriced for what they are but I thought it would be well worth it, but god forbid your child is unwell, you will be left out of pocket. Waterbabies dont understand children get unwell and profit off your loss.

Breaking their own T&Cs

Really loved the sessions however the lady looking after billing really made the experience change I contacted to cancel my sons lessons after taking him for 7 month. For a number of reasons including the heating being broken and the classes being cancelled last minute for 2 weeks running. She then preceded to take the next full months payment from my account immediately, not the 4 weeks notice amount as stated in their T&Cs. It turned what was a lovely experience with my son to a company i will not consider using again.

I love the format of the lessons and the songs and games used to make learning to swim fun. For us though, the main reason for doing so well has all been down to the relationship my son has had with his teacher. Toni has been absolutely fantastic!!! From day 1 when he was nervous and unsure she has encouraged him and been so warm, kind and friendly. He now has total confidence in her and his swimming is amazing for a boy of his age. I really do credit Toni with all of this and cannot thank her enough. She has been incredible and I would love her to be recognised for how she has developed his skills and improved confidence in his own ability. Thank you

The manager of this company was…

The manager of this company was extremely unprofessional and rude to me via phonecall today. I called to change class venue as we are relocating. I asked if the changing facilities at the venue are any better than those at Derwent as at class today it was very overcrowded and there was little room to change the baby. I advised that there were many family members poolside taking videos. He told me that this was not the case last week. And asked why we weren’t there last week. I proceeded to tell him that my little girl was recovering from bronchiolitis and continued to have a temperature and we had informed the class instructor prior to the class that we would not be attending. He told me that other parents usually take their children to class even whilst unwell to help clear their chests. I said that in my opinion this is not safe for a baby and also not safe for other children as RSV is highly contagious. It does not sit well with me that he encourages people to take their children to swimming whilst unwell. Also, it is absolutely not for him to suggest that my child should have been at class - I am perfectly capable of deciding if my child is not well enough to attend a swimming class. Not to mention that they have cancelled two classes before without sufficient notice. Other than the cancellations, we have had no issues up to now. The instructor was excellent. The business model is shockingly poor. They have charged us for the remaining two classes even though I asked to cancel. He also hung up on me at the end of the phonecall. When I informed my husband of this phonecall, he was mostly disgusted that a person would be this rude not only to a customer but to the parent of a small child. I have since read reviews of the company on Trustpilot and note that a number of reviews refer to the “angry manager”. I will submit a formal complaint. Appalling company. **Response to Waterbabies: I sent a complaint to the local waterbabies franchise and to head office. I have not heard back from either. I also replied to your Trustpilot email requesting more information. Your response is clearly generic. So I do not hold out much hope that I will hear from your company again. This is not correct complaints management.
