Untrustworthy

Firstly, Princess Cruises turned out to be quite unreliable. We had six shore excursions planned, but the most important one — viewing the glaciers and icebergs — was canceled without adequate explanation. Another excursion, originally meant to take us to the city of Victoria, was substituted with a visit to a much smaller, unremarkable location, the name of which we don’t even remember. For these cancellations and itinerary changes, we were given just $200 USD per person as compensation — and even that had to be spent onboard. This felt insufficient and disappointing. Secondly, getting access to drinking water onboard was surprisingly inconvenient. Guest cabins were located between decks 6 and 14 (we stayed on deck 8), but the only place with self-serve drinking water was on deck 15. Each time we needed water, we had to carry our own thermos all the way up, and elevator wait times could be long. Alternatively, bottled water (800ml) was available at the bar for over $3 USD each, but the bar staff were not always honest. On three occasions when two bottles were purchased, the family was twice charged for three. Refunds were only issued after complaints were made at the front desk.

Very disappointing.

Very disappointing. This is the 8th cruise we’ve been on (including others from the same group - Royal Caribbean & Celebrity). The ship (Sun Princess) is nice, but unless you are a meat eating American who likes X-factor style singers it isn’t for you. The breakfast consists of around 20 stations, 17 of which seem to serve variations of exactly the same thing (bacon, sausage, beans, egg - and pretty much in the same format - e.g. there are no poached eggs or eggs Florentine.). The buffet for dinner and tea is also poor. Same every day, and not great quality. It's also very bland. There are a couple of token Indian dishes, and even those are bland too. The entertainment is naff singers for the main part. We had 2 dreadful comedians. The only bright spot was the magician (Mike Bones) who was great. You have to pay for shuttles, the sunbeds get nabbed and left reserved all day without Princess doing anything about it, and even the kids sports area has basketballs but no football! It’s like non-Americans and non-meat eaters are second class citizens. Even the sandwich bar often only has a choice of meat sandwiches half of the time. On top of that they force you to carry a tracker, and they state on their app that they are capturing your facial recognition data (no idea why, but it surely is unnecessary and seems a breach of privacy). I asked for a normal card rather than the tracker pendant (which is magnetic and emits EMF) but they said I couldn’t have a card. I was looking forward to better entertainment and much better food, but left disappointed. This is the worse cruise we’ve been on for food, sport, entertainment and privacy. I’m posting the review here, rather than at the end of the cruise, as if my experience with Celebrity is anything to go by, they tend not to bother listening to genuine feedback.

We booked the Princess Premier Package…

We booked the Princess Premier Package and for 2 days now they've blocked my stepsons medallion insisting he can only buy non alcoholic drinks. He's 28 years old!! The ship is tired and a lot smaller cabins than other cruiselines we've used. Spent more time at guest services than enjoying the actual cruise

Poor Customer Service

Recently returned from a Princess Cruise around the Mediterranean. Prior to sailing Princess Cruises lost ALL of our luggage between the hotel and the Ship. Despite informing Passenger Services several times before the Ship sailed that we had not received our luggage nothing was done and we has no change of cloths until the Ship reached Gibraltar. Over a week since we returned from our trip and no sight of our luggage or communication from Princess Cruises despite several calls and e-mails. Appalling Customer Service - book at your peril.

Terrible Medallion App.

Terrible Medallion App. Princess want you to input everything Pre cruise into their shockingly bad Medallion App. What a terrible waste of time because it just doesn’t work. Fails to upload documents and repeated fails trying to upload passport photos.

Princess Cruises hidden charges

My family and I recently travelled on Sky Princess, from Southampton 28th May for 7 nights. We had pre-paid a package to include up to 15 alcoholic beverages (for two adults), WiFi for two devices and tips for two adults and two children. The line operates an app based on board account system which I checked on a daily basis up to and including the last night on board. At every check this showed a zero balance to my account. We had repeatedly checked with serving / bar staff that we were within our package allowance and at no time did anyone say were not. On returning home and checking my online bank account I see multiple repeated charges to my account that have no obvious reason or explanation. I was on hold for 1hr 45 minutes to be given an email address and have requested urgent attention to this and awaiting a reply. The cruise was mostly lovely but hundreds of pounds of unexpected and so far unexplained / unjustified costs afterwards is very concerning.

Covid cancellation policy complicated

We had a good experience this spring on Discovery Princess with exception of booking a wait list spot for balcony. On board they told us there is no wait list?! Covid protocols lax: tenders crammed elbow to elbow to max (100+ capacity) as are elevators. Dining service superb, maitre’d moved us swiftly away from a hacking couple complaining of fever and headache. Booking Ruby Princess for May we tested Covid positive just before sailing (despite double vax boost🙄). Still no FCC for our rebooking June 29 despite many calls over last 12 days.

WORST CRUISE EVER!!!

Went on Caribbean Princess in March 2022. My room had to be changed multiple times. First was because it was right at the bottom of the ship and with the engine noise and shaking, it was unbearable. Second room had issues with my toilet (would not flush). 4 days of calling front desk for help got me nowhere. After my bout of covid they moved me once more due to requiring that room for a mobility patient instead of keeping that room free. Whilst in isolation it took over three hours for lunch delivery. On the subject of food, our maitre d was rude and completely unhelpful. As vegetarians we were told we would “get whatever was on the menu” and would not let us converse with the the chef. I missed a pre paid excursion during my covid time. Despite saying they would refund that, 9 weeks later I still don’t. I have also been charged fees which are not explained. The ship was so old with mechanical problems that the cruise was terminated early in San Fran instead of Vancouver. And when trying to phone them it is virtually impossible to get through to them. You can’t even make a complaint. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!

Cruising post covid a viable risk option ? Sadly NO .!!he risk v benefit

I have just returned yesterday from a Princess UK cruise.... My wife and I have always been keen cruisers.... some 20 in all, and many on our favourite cruise line Princess.... This post is a personal and objective cruise experience report, prompted by our desire to 'test the cruise water' post covid, to see if it would be a viable future option , which in the last 14 years or so has given us many magical memories and experiences. The cruise experience has changed, as we felt had the enthusiasm and engagement of our fellow passengers... General observations - crew and staff, dining experiences and accomodation - as we remembered and loved... The company has cut costs by reducing passenger experiences - lower standard and variety of on board activities and lower standard guest performers - altho the stage shows with ship cast were excellent.... Passengers get less benefits for their cruise levels and restaurant drinks were much more expensive... Now my main reason for the review..... post covid, are the health issues a concern... well, sadly ..yes. I'll explain.. and the reason we would not risk any future cruises . Cruise ships have always been 'contagion containers'... with 2-3-4,000 passengers in close proximity, catching various viruses has always been a lottery, and the ship takes no responsibility and any suffering passenger stands a bad chance of having to quarantine and lose part of the holiday... it's all weighted against the passenger.... Now bearing that in mind, now cruising means that all passengers need proof of a negative covid test, and a vaccination pass, before boarding, and all staff and crew are tested regularly, so no reasons with what we know of how covid spreads, that this should be an issue on board.... again, sadly not so. Many passengers suffered bad 'cold' like symptoms, my wife suffered a severe chill.... again typical of a cruise 'contagion container'.... Both of us are in our 70's, very fit, never had covid, and very informed (I was a career research analyst and have spent much time researching covid) so we know how it is caught and how it is not caught... The point.... For the last 5 days of the cruise, I developed severe typical cold like symptoms and fought hard to complete our intensive excursion package - our priority.... About a couple of days before disembarkation, I was aware of a loss of taste and smell .. but still thought I had extreme cold symptoms. Arriving home yesterday, I on a whim did a covid test... and yes.... tested positive. So angry as this could only have happened on board the ship... So despite all precautions, you can still catch covid on board, with all the potential implications... A word to the wise.. hope readers thinking of cruising may want to weight up the risk v benefits.. We have and intend to just focus on trips that will not put us at risk of covid from such mass indoor gathering situations... You may think the same.... but at least you have a 'horse's mouth' experience to draw on .. Good luck..!!

Better but some ways to go yet.

After four cruises in six months, they get 3 stars Ship: absolutely beautiful but the balconies are too narrow. Finishes are elegant and upscale with recessed doorways. Food: Noticeable improvement in past six months. Portion sizes have improved. Issue with culinary skills onboard - they can’t make a decent Eggs Benedict to save their lives (hint: Sauce is supposed to be a liquid, not a solid.) Entertainment: needs a lot of improvement. “Activities” are mostly vendor sales pitches. No dancers on the last cruise. Sail away parties cancelled. Only 1 production show a week lately. Movies are old reruns. Musicians and the DJ were excellent! Ship Management: A LOT of room for improvement here. Lack of transparency regarding issues on board. (Like a significant covid outbreak with rumored ~20% of the ship down with it.) The three monkeys were manning the bridge. Never saw the Captain, (excuse me “The Commodore” 🤦‍♀️) or officers walking the ship on my last cruise.

Princess Cruise Majestic won’t disappoint

My husband and I have sailed on the Majestic Princess Cruise-line 3 times since October 2021. The ship is pristine, food great, our cabin was awesome. The entertainment was beyond wonderful. Most of all, the staff tries so hard. They are polite and so helpful.
