My experience is excellent so far
My experience was excellent so far. I'm not one to celebrate over initial success. I like to give some time to see that initial success is sustained. So far, so good. The one negative is the non-trivial charge for water testing. I had already paid $20 to overnight a water sample to Florida for a free test done by Budget Water, and Culligan tested my water (for free) as did a local contractor. This negative was mitigated by the fact that I had the information already so I did not have to pay for that. The representatives were great. I contacted them with questions which were all answered. I told them that I was also exploring other options and needed time to do that. I'm going to describe those for context of the journey that led to Pelican. My first experience was with Budget Water, ostensibly in Florida, but we discovered it is actually in Sharpsburg, PA. They tested my water and answered my questions. The solution was similar to those offered by others, however this was the worst experience of the lot. I was prepared to place an order and was told that since I did not have access to my pressure tank, I would need a flow switch, which they could provide for $170. I told him I wanted to explore other sources for this switch. When I determined that I could use their solution, I called to place the order. They did not return my call. I called the next day, again ready to place my order. Again, they did not return my call. No matter what the truth, the perception is that this company could not stand scrutiny, making their 'lifetime technical support' offer quite questionable in my opinion. Culligan visited and tested my water. Their solution was about 30% more expensive than Pelican's. They would have done the work, so that was a factor. However, I don't know that they would have done it the way I wanted it done. I'll never know because I did not go with Culligan. I also considered Kenetico, but what I saw led me to believe they only did softeners and not filters. I invited a local contractor. His price was less. He tested my water and his results were consistent with the others. I was more impressed with Pelican products and support. I ordered from Pelican and got my devices within 5 or 6 days. (I ordered late in the week, so the weekend extended this some). The delivery added some heartburn, but that was the company that delivered. I live in the forest in the mountains on lane. They sent the pallet of devices on a tractor trailer. I had to meet the driver, close to my home, and offload it to my truck. I was able to carry each device separately. The installation was pretty straightforward. I planned it out for days, drawing pictures, mapping flow, bypass, etc. had trouble with only one joint which I did not glue. Duh! I had to consult Pelican's technical support with questions 3 times. Each time I got the help I needed. Quickly. The change in water is dramatic. So far. My problem was iron. We have well water. We are quite satisified so far with the company and the product. I had fibreglass tanks that needed replenished supposedly every 2 years. I believe, from my research, that this was a softening system, not a filtration system. I told everyone with whom I dealt that I long ago embraced the 'only cry once' philosophy. That is, buy quality the first time and you only cry once. This system is not cheap, but it is doing the job. I don't buy without research and they passed all tests. I know that 'so far' implies reservations. Having said that, so far, I can heartily recommend them. So far, we are VERY happy with the product, the salesperson, and the technical support we have received. They have given me no reason to worry and a LOT of evidence that I picked the right company.
