Extremely Disappointing Experience with…

Extremely Disappointing Experience with JUCY – Safety & Hygiene Concerns Ignored Unfortunately fell far below the standards we expected, especially having had a great experience hiring in the past. From the outset, the vehicle presented multiple serious issues: Rear Suspension: Constant squeaking that made us question the safety and roadworthiness of the van. Black Mould: There were visible mould stains and patches of black mould inside the vehicle. Completely unacceptable in any rental, and downright dangerous for my partner, who has a respiratory condition and is highly sensitive to mould. Rear Doors: Both rear doors were extremely difficult to open, adding to our frustrations. We contacted your after-hours support line on Day 1 and requested a vehicle swap. We were not advised that this was even an option, leaving us stuck with a substandard and potentially unsafe vehicle for the entire trip. When returning the van, we again raised our concerns and were told by your staff that we should be entitled to compensation. We’re still awaiting confirmation on this. They also mentioned that mould stains are to be expected in a vehicles in Cairns. This experience was both disappointing and unacceptable, not just due to the condition of the vehicle, but the lack of support we received during the hire. We sincerely hope JUCY takes this feedback seriously. We will not be hiring from JUCY again unless there is a clear improvement in vehicle maintenance, hygiene, and customer care.

Too stressful to enjoy our holiday

The vehicles available are in a shocking and unsafe condition. We had to change vehicle halfway through our trip and only receives a measly sum in compensation. We have since been charged for an AA call out with a dead battery. The battery had to be replaced two days after this callout. The mechanic, upon seeing the battery, highlighted that this was in fact the wrong battery for the vehicle! Please avoid!

A Near-Death Experience – Do NOT Rent from JUCY

We put our trust in JUCY when we hired a campervan for a winter trip through New Zealand, expecting a roadworthy vehicle that could handle the harsh seasonal conditions. What we got instead was a complete disaster that nearly cost us our lives. From day one, the van proved to be dangerously unfit for the road. We lost control multiple times on straight, de-iced roads — and it wasn’t just us. A local road worker pulled us aside to tell us flat out: this vehicle should never have been on the road. That’s not just disappointing — that’s criminal negligence. The mechanical and structural issues were endless: The roof leaked, soaking our bed and sleeping gear. The hose for draining grey water was broken, leaving us stuck with stagnant waste. The shower was completely non-functional. Worst of all: there was a GAS LEAK. That’s not just an inconvenience — that’s a serious, potentially deadly hazard. This wasn’t just a bad experience. It ruined our trip. We had no choice but to cut it short and return home early after what can only be described as a near-death experience. JUCY’s negligence, lack of maintenance, and disregard for customer safety is unacceptable. Do not trust JUCY with your safety or your holiday. They clearly do not inspect or care for their vehicles properly. This company is an absolute disgrace and should be held accountable before someone actually dies.

Overall avoid!

Pros - Cheapest big company van rental (but you get what you pay for), staff are friendly, with the extra insurance check out and in very easy and quick (in hindsight too quick didn't really tell us how to make the bed etc), they paid for a replacement gasmate bbq when ours broke, you can stand up in the van Cons - very poor build quality and space lay-out. The van is massive but they utilise the space so so poorly. No clothes storage. No bin. Gas BBQ is in a box you have to take out every time (unlike other vans we have rented where its just a pull out draw. Bed is a massive massive faff to make everything. It involves removing a 3 part table and then rearranging loads of cushions before putting a sheet on. Again other vans just utilise the space way way better!

A fuir

A fuir !

Absolutely Disgraceful

Absolutely Disgraceful – Avoid This Company at All Costs! If I could give zero stars, I would. Our experience with this company was an absolute nightmare from start to finish, and their treatment of my family has been nothing short of appalling. We rented a camper from their Cairns branch in early January, expecting a smooth and enjoyable trip. Instead, we were handed a faulty, unsafe vehicle that was completely unfit for purpose. The bed was broken, the toilet was unusable, and critical fittings were missing or incorrectly installed. We had no choice but to sleep on the couch for multiple nights, despite my aunt being a recovering cancer patient. The stress and discomfort this caused her were completely unacceptable. When the bed first broke, we were forced to wait hours for a mechanic, missing an entire day of our holiday. The so-called “repair” lasted less than 48 hours before the bed broke again, leaving us stranded and forced to divert all the way to Brisbane—a destination that was never in our itinerary—to exchange the camper. Despite this massive inconvenience, we were still charged for tolls and fuel for the journey that was only necessary due to their faulty vehicle! Their customer service was disgraceful—rude, dismissive, and unwilling to help. It took hours on the phone just to get basic assistance, and every step of the way, they refused to take responsibility. When we finally returned the camper early because the replacement was of lower quality and completely unsuitable, the Sydney branch supervisor was shocked at how we had been treated. Now, after weeks of back-and-forth emails, the company is refusing to pay us the compensation we are legally entitled to. Instead, they have told us to take them to court if we want to recover our costs. This company ruined a once-in-a-lifetime trip for my family, and their refusal to provide any real remedy under Australian Consumer Law is disgusting. Do yourself a favor—DO NOT book with this company. Their vehicles are unsafe, their service is atrocious, and they will leave you stranded and out of pocket rather than take responsibility for their failures. Spend your money elsewhere and avoid this scam of a business!

Sadly a really bad experience

We rented a Jucy crib van to travel around Australia. Only two days after we got the van the front deck exploded on the highway. We called Jucy right away but it took at least 2 hours before they picked up the phone. They made a truck come to put the spare deck on wich also took a while and when they got the spare tire on it was flat. It took more than 4 hours before we got back on the road again. To get a new spare tire we had to drive to a mechanic and wait for one and a half our before they had fixed it. A few days later the cooler stopped working and our food got bad so we had to throw most of it out. Also the air condition switched between hot and cold air which was annoying when it was really hot outside. Our gps also went out a lot of times. We contacted Jucy to get them to do something but they couldn’t help in a few days so they said we could buy some ice cubes for the cooler until they could help. We had a hard time reaching them after this. Our bedsheets where then starting to get a bit disgusting so we wanted to wash them and we knew that Jucy would do that for us. So we contacted them and what they had forgot to tell us was that there were only a few places that could be done. When we asked them we were not at all near any of the places so it was not possible to get fresh sheets. We think that it is something they should inform us about before we start driving. Due to the very bad weather in Airlie Beach today we wanted to get away and drive the 8 hours to cairns. Suddenly it when we were driving the car started to smell burned. The speeder stopped working and smoke came out from the motor cooler. We called Jucy for assistance but it took us up to an hour. We did not know if it was safe to stay in the car so we were out in the rain that hour. When we reached Jucy they sensed a man to check the car. He arrived after one more hour and said that the car battery could explode and that we should not drive any further but wait for a towtruck to pick us up. But due to the bad weather there was flooding so no one could get to us. We used 3 hours talking to every Jucy member and every time they hung up we needed to wait for 20-30 minutes before they answered. They told us different things and it was all very confusing. In the end a man told us we had to sleep in the van by the highway with cars and trucks driving fast by. We did not feel safe at all but there were no other options. A few hours later a woman crew member of Jucy that we had spoken with a couple of times felt so bad for us that she got a man picking us and our van up and driving us to a motel. We just think that it is weird because all the other Jucy people told us there was nothing to do. That day we used over 7 hours in a broken van by the highway in rain. We knew when we bought the van that it would not be perfect but it was cheap. It had a lot of scratches and stuff but we did not think about complaining about it. But all the other things just made the experience so bad. This was just not worth it.

Understaffed unorganised experience, however great time with camper

The van was absolutely perfect and we had a fab time exploring New Zealand HOWEVER the company were awful to deal with, massive wait times picking the van up (over 5 hours) with limited communication. They are severely understaffed and this shows through the staff that are working there currently. We were lucky to not have any problems with the van when we had it but many other reviews say they did and the company didn’t help at all, we read this in a review book which we noticed had since been removed when we returned the van. Was given a very basic show around of the van as they didn’t have the correct paperwork to give us, was just told to look online for anything else but couldn’t find anything that was of any help. We went away during the 5 hour wait and was given a contact number on a piece of paper. On back of paper was a whole transcript of another clients confidential information, the issues he faced and the amounts he was charged for said issues. Had to pay out for ad blue twice costing appx £50 and had to wait until van return for this to be deducted from another bill which was an additional cost per mile that you aren’t made aware of until van pick up. Service requires a top down review being one of the biggest for motor rentals in New Zealand.

Warning - stay away from this company

Warning – stay away from this company if you want to make it to your destination! Our vehicle broke down on a Sunday, and when the mechanic realised that the vehicle could not be repaired, it was towed away. We were left stranded by the side of the road, with all our luggage, in a remote part of New Zealand. After hours on hold with Jucy, they promised to get back to us immediately to help us with a solution. They didn’t. We only heard back from them after 24 hours and we had no way of getting in contact with them again as it was after hours. Do they want their customers to sleep in the ditch?! We finally saw no other way than to rent another vehicle to get to our accommodation for the night. Now they refuse to reimburse us for the additional expenses caused by their poorly maintained vehicles and non-existent customer support. We have been travelling around Australia and New Zealand to do research since October, and have never experienced a more unprofessional company that obviously do not care about their customers safety.

Bed bugs and no air-conditioning!

We hired a Jucy 6 berth motor home for our family of 4 to drive down the Qld coast. We had issues with the vehicle from day 1 and noticed beetles and small bugs in the overcab bed and around the kitchen table fold-out bed on night 1. Initially we didn't think too much of it and just removed the bugs and searched around all the beds - removing all the beetles we found. In the mean time we had the following problems: - AC issues (we sweltered through drives) - Cruise control not working intermittently - Cabin door lock not working - Toaster and cook top smoking - so we could not cook inside - Toilet door loose and opening when turning/driving Then a few days into our trip, we came out in bites and skin rashes and had to get medical attention and creams to treat ourselves for bed bugs / beetle allergies. We again searched the motor home and found more beetle larvae and beetles that we photographed and removed. Throughout our journey we reported all of our issues, but Jucy was unable to coordinate repairs / cleaning or replacement due to a number of public holidays and a long weekend. They expected us to travel hours out of our way, to sacrifice a day of travel to facilitate repairs after the weekend, but we were on a tight schedule to drive 1000s of kms over 5 days and would have missed our flight. They were not willing to have a technician meet us on site at a stop over. We considered staying in a hotel, but had already paid so much money for the motor home and caravan park sites that we decided to squash onto the lower beds and barely slept. My kids cried one night because they were worried about getting more bug bites. Jucy initially were very empathetic and promised a refund for our inconvenience and I would honestly say trauma. We also incurred costs of a few hundred $$$ in creams and Dr bills. We then spent 2 full days laundering everything we owned the day before our flight, instead of enjoying our last night in Brisbane and the day we arrived home. We continued to use creams for 3 months. It was a horrible experience to ensure we rid ourselves of the bed bugs / beetles. We then emailed Jucy over a 4 month period, as they periodically disengaged and eventually just stopped replying to our requests for updates on our complaint. Months later after countless calls and emails and promises a manager would call us, the calls never came. The last reply stated we should have reported the issues during our trip and nothing could be proven - they essentially called us liars. This is despite reporting our issues at the time and on return - over and over to customer service and them promising our issues were logged. It's been exhausting and a terrible and expensive experience that we just want to forget. Getting no compensation for a holiday ruined, bed bugs / skin irritation, medical costs and trauma on the side is a real slap in the face from Jucy. There lack of action and response and dismissal of our complaint is negligent. I do not recommend you hire a Jucy rental if you want to have an enjoyable and trouble free (bugs free) holiday!

DONT BOOK WITH JUCY

Total rip off. Burning cable, no electricity, defect grey water valve, gas bottle defect, no insect nets, dirty car with more then 400.000 km. That is what you can expect when you are booking with Jucy. And no they won‘t give you a new car but apologise again and again. Pro Tip: Take photos documentation is key and do an chargeback with your credit card company. Thats the only language they understand. Really cruel business practises ! Shame on you Jucy !

Horrible customer experience …

Surly disinterested customer service from shuttle driver and guy at the pick up desk, woman working there dropping f bombs loudly to another staff member in front of customers, car was filthy and had a dirty food container under the passenger seat. On return same surly service from another staff member who tried to blame windscreen chip on me when it was clearly noted on my contract as being there when I picked the car up and also did not believe I had picked the car up from the Queenstown branch, said it was from Christchurch, he was a complete idiot. The full insurance that costs an additional $25 per day is clearly a rort as it states that it covers windscreen chips yet they don’t repair these. Overall a terrible experience and would never rent from this company again and will warn others to avoid.
