Tech support failure

I have been using iDrive for several years to backup our desktop and laptop PC. I have generally been quite happy with the product until now. Seven weeks ago iDrive started failing during online backup of one particular 256MB file. After many interactions with support they referred it to their "backend team". There has been no progress and not a word. I ping them every week and get the same response. I've had to resort to a local backup which I then copy to Google Drive. I will note that this is about 20X faster than IDrive online backup.

So far I am happy with iDrive.

I have only begun using iDrive. I have used other backup systems which seemed confusing to me so that I was never sure I was doing it correctly. So far, I like iDrive because it has a user-friendly interface for someone not really computer-savvy. I can back up to my external hard drive as well as the cloud, both backups can be accessed readily. I can backup on demand or on a pre-selected schedule. I have not yet tried the restore function. I have not yet made a mirror image of my computer, but to back up all my personal data took about 3 hours. Incremental backups take a few minutes. So far I am happy and have recommended iDrive to two people in my life.

Great Introductory Offer & User Friendly…

I got a great introductory offer and the software is more user friendly than the Acronis package I replaced it with. Understandably, the first full backup took a long time. But the second was completed in just five minutes as only amended or new files were needed.

$300 charged for a few days over storage limit

I have a subscription for 5TB a year. This costs $99 I was getting close to my limit and said if I didn't want to go over to remove some data. They did not explain how at this stage. I went in and thought I removed some data but accidently backed up more. I got an email stating I was over and now gave me instructions on how to remove the data. I followed it and removed the data to bring me below my limit. For the few days I was over they charged me $300!! To put me on the next level would have only been an extra $50. I know it was my mistake but the system is not easy to follow and as soon as I knew I was over I rectified the situation. I have contacted their support 4 times about this with no reply. I would have happily paid the extra $50 to move up to the next tier which would have been ample but taking $300 feels like a smash and grab

way too hard to get Idrive doing anything useful

I have to agree with ll the one star givers. I tried to use this as a means of file sharing but I gave up trying as it is not intuitive in the slightest. Wasted 2 hours on trying to make it work with no rel success. In contrast, and from a standing start, I got Sync.com working and sharing within 10 minutes. Thats what I call intuitive technology

Cash-hungry backup service

I took up this offer on the off chance. But very quickly got to know iDrive as quite cash-hungry. I was immediately charged a tariff for two years. The usual symptom for such companies also manifests itself in this case - just try to find the right button to cancel iDrive. I wish you every success.

unreliable

unreliable. Idrive is unable to sync my 3 computers. It does not delete files on all computers when they are powered on after being offline. Instead, it puts files you just deleted back in their folders creating confusion. It also just stops syncing when a new version is available. And gives no notification about said version. If you value your data, do not use data sync with idrive.

Extremely unoptimized desktop client

Extremely unoptimized desktop client. I got a good deal for $5 for the first year and was excited. However, when I tried to backup a 500GB folder, it spent hours "preparing file list". Task manager shows it using disk the whole time therefore I can only imagine that they scan every single byte before the backup even starts.. Why? I don't even want to think about how long it'll take to backup the remaining 4TBs I have as external drives.

Terrible quality of services

Terrible quality of services provided and useless support. I started using their online backup and C3 storage, and after a few months they started blocking access to services from my dynamic IP. The fix on their side lasted a couple of weeks, and again access was blocked, and this was discovered only after some time by me, accordingly my backups were not created. No explanation or reliable fix for the problem can be obtained from support. Only answers - "our technical team is working on it". Such a "technical team" should be fired and not allowed to access computers for 1000 years. Now for almost a month I have not had access to my data to download it and forget about this f...ed up and irresponsible company. Support is still waiting for "a response from their technical team". Avoid them at all costs. You will not get any support there.

Not reliable

Not reliable. No problem notifications. Only people happy with this service are people who haven't had to use the recovery service. If the application fails and there is no backup there is no possible way to get a notification. Per customer service only way to know if backup stopped working is if you enable daily confirmation reminders on the app. If you DON'T get a confirmation that day then it didn't backup. If there is a problem with the app itself there is no way to generate an email to you because all emails originate from the app itself and NOT the idrive website. My only option they said is to request a partial refund for this shortfalling. (known issue).
