AVOID COLLINGWOOD AT ALL COSTS!

AVOID COLLINGWOOD AT ALL COSTS! Take into consideration all negative reviews and don’t overlook it like I did!!! Before purchasing I called them to double check everything and was mislead over the phone, which made me go for the worse option. I misunderstood the fine prints because they were not clearly written, and are also misleading. Not to mention the spelling mistakes over the emails exchanged. I purchased learner insurance for a set amount of months, passed my driving test before the policy ended and they are refusing to refund the money for the months I will not use the learner insurance (which I have no option but to cancel). I’ve lost £160. They are claiming I never spoke to one of their agents which is a lie. Why would I have bought a policy over others without having spoken to anyone? Do not recommend them in the slightest! Go for reputable insurance companies instead, cheap becomes costly and it’s not worth it! Regardless of policy you go for its clear that you will be at loss!

Good telephone service from knowledgeable people

Very good customer service on telephone, not just people reading from a script they don't understand. Also had to call over a potential issue with Black Box and again, very helpful on telephone. Renew process was straightforward, although lengthy. Online renew process would be ideal for those of us who need to do these things outside of work hours.

Cancelled the policy and charged £150 penalty. Then had to pay to set up policy again

Cancelled the policy meaning I had to pay a £150 penalty. I was overseas, and payment didn't come out of my account as it was highlighted by my bank as potentially a fraudulent transaction. I received an email giving me 24 hours to rectify. I didn't see this until my return to the UK, 24 hours later by which time they had cancelled the policy - leaving me to pay the penalty and the driver uninsured. Then an hour on the phone to set up and pay for another years policy. UPDATE: I'm unhappy as the policy was cancelled with in 48 hours of non payment. You did not try 'several' email's, I only received one, giving me 24 hours to rectify. 24 hours of non-payment and the entire policy is cancelled. I had to spend a stressful HOUR on the phone, trying to work out what had happened and why, and how to resolve it. In the meantime the driver was uninsured - and I had to pay £150 there and then for the privilege and start the entire process of setting up the insurance policy again. Not much fun. UPDATE: I've also asked to pay via Direct Debit so this doesn't happen again but have been told that 'is not how the company works'. UPDATE 16/04/2024 Nephew has passed his test so as advised called the same day to cancel the policy. I've been told that as the policy was cancelled down by Collingwood, I will now be charged an additional £162 as the previous payments will no longer count towards the total balance! I now see why the policy was cancelled so quickly - so they can add further charges. This has turned out to be a very expensive turn of events.

It’s ok, but still paying them a year on.

It’s ok, it’s great for learners. My advice is: do not get the annual cover. Because it really will harm you financially if you pass your test early. Once you pass your test you are charged a cancellation fee, plus whatever’s left on your premium for the year minus a very tiny percentage. Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of money so even the £75 fee to cancel was added to the amount I now owe for cancelling my policy early. This amounted to over £300. They asked me to pay it when I called to cancel my policy. My heart sank completely the excitement of passing my test disappeared and I was faced with a hefty bill that I couldn’t pay upfront. With literally £25 in my bank account I asked if there was a payment plan available. They agreed that I will pay it to them using a “policy plan” (that’s an agreed payment plan for us poor people who can’t afford to pay the entire cancellation fees in full.) I think they allowed it because I’m a student and a full time carer and I’m in financial hardship, I passed my test last year and so I pay for my car finance, my insurance and I’m still paying Collingwood for being insured for those three months that I was learning. It wasn’t worth it for me personally, 3 months of cover ended up costing me over £700 with the fees etc that they added on after cancellation. So yeah, good company if you go for the short term version with no strings attached. Bad if you go for the annual and pass early. *edit* I see your reply Collingwood. I just wanted to let others know what trouble they can land themselves in because a lot of your customers are going to be very young. Maybe going to uni or going out to the world for the first time and experiencing their first debt via you. I did get your request for details, which told me that if I didn't provide proof to TrustPilot my review would be deleted. However I have plenty of receipts. I have immediately given Trustpilot my policy details to prove that my review is true. *edit 2* collingwood eloquently shift the blame to me in their new reply below and that’s fine I don’t mind, if I can save even one young person from signing up to the annual cover then I will be happy.

Cheap Insurance but beware!

My son used Collingwood Insurance Services UK Ltd when he was learning to drive. Great company & cheap but please read the fine print! He passed his test & cancelled his insurance, only to be hit with £113 fee. £40 premium cancellation fee and £73 for the remainder of his policy. He’s still at school and his only income is a part time job! Talk about robbing the kid’s blind. Learners nowadays have it tough, due to the cost of insurance, in general, but these charges are totally unnecessary.
