It’s ok, but still paying them a year on.
It’s ok, it’s great for learners. My advice is: do not get the annual cover. Because it really will harm you financially if you pass your test early. Once you pass your test you are charged a cancellation fee, plus whatever’s left on your premium for the year minus a very tiny percentage. Unfortunately I don’t have a lot of money so even the £75 fee to cancel was added to the amount I now owe for cancelling my policy early. This amounted to over £300. They asked me to pay it when I called to cancel my policy. My heart sank completely the excitement of passing my test disappeared and I was faced with a hefty bill that I couldn’t pay upfront. With literally £25 in my bank account I asked if there was a payment plan available. They agreed that I will pay it to them using a “policy plan” (that’s an agreed payment plan for us poor people who can’t afford to pay the entire cancellation fees in full.) I think they allowed it because I’m a student and a full time carer and I’m in financial hardship, I passed my test last year and so I pay for my car finance, my insurance and I’m still paying Collingwood for being insured for those three months that I was learning. It wasn’t worth it for me personally, 3 months of cover ended up costing me over £700 with the fees etc that they added on after cancellation. So yeah, good company if you go for the short term version with no strings attached. Bad if you go for the annual and pass early. *edit* I see your reply Collingwood. I just wanted to let others know what trouble they can land themselves in because a lot of your customers are going to be very young. Maybe going to uni or going out to the world for the first time and experiencing their first debt via you. I did get your request for details, which told me that if I didn't provide proof to TrustPilot my review would be deleted. However I have plenty of receipts. I have immediately given Trustpilot my policy details to prove that my review is true. *edit 2* collingwood eloquently shift the blame to me in their new reply below and that’s fine I don’t mind, if I can save even one young person from signing up to the annual cover then I will be happy.
