Chrysalis courses receives consistently positive reviews. Customers particularly appreciate professional and service, though some mention concerns about communication and expensive.
Sandra our tutor for year 2 has been so supportive and helpful and brings passion and knowledge in abundance. She shares so much and her feedback is thorough and thoughtful and so helpful. She's been amazing and I'm excited to continue the second half of the year and progress onto year three. Thank you so much to the staff behind the scenes and placements team too for always being ready to answer queries and help where they can.
I have been with chrysalis for 2.5 yrs, my 1st year was enjoyable, with a great tutor, my 2nd year not so much, however, on year 3 1st session in January, my current tutor gave me structure, with slideshows & video clips to explain in more depth and giving examples of the different topics, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 5 modules as I am a visual learner, the guidance given is great by Sarah Jones and she is a real fit for our group, I am looking forward to the rest of my final year with Chrysalis
I have had a great experience training with Chrysalis. The pluralistic content of the course has been very interesting and I believe has put me in good stead for my future as a counsellor. Most beneficial to my experience though is my tutor, Martina. Martina is incredibly knowledgeable, always puts us at ease, fills us with confidence and gives valuable feedback.
Pretty disappointing. A lot of the course material provided is dated and sometimes inaccurate. Also one day of classes per month means that a lot is crammed in and often, learning is limited. On a positive note, it's a lot cheaper than studying at a higher education establishment.
There were times I felt frustrated with chrysalis but in the end they came through. They were helpful and supportive and had to adapt the course with the covid pandemic and actually pulled out all the stops by switching to Zoom and making it possible to finish my course. The course was harder than expected and on par with my Nursing diploma course and in a way harder as the placements on that were found for you. With this I had to find my own and although its easy to think you have plenty of time, it whizzes by! So start looking for placements ASAP as they aren't as easy as you think to come by. Year 2 and 3 were a bit repetative so that was disappointing. But at the end of the day, which ever course you choose its a means to an end. Like driving, you learn what you need to pass and really learn in practice and on the job and once your flying solo.
Currently deferred at the start of year 3.
I would say that Chrysalis is very good. The tutors I've had have been fantastic and the overall content of the course(s) is exactly what I wanted when I first started. The lessons and class notes are really informative and being able to explore lesson content as well as student & tutor input in lessons is really invaluable. They do a great job of reassuring you that its a safe and confidential environment and its been really easy to be open and discuss personal experiences and feelings, particularly with my classmates and tutor.
The support that Chrysalis gives from the admin team as well has always been prompt and helpful in all the issues I've raised. They are really easy to contact and have always had an answer for me.
One point of criticism I have is that if needing to attend an alternative lesson if you cannot make your own, some of the alternative sites and dates are difficult to make. Working full time meant that I had to miss one or two lessons and some of the alternative venues that I could make were miles away, one even up in Scotland (I'm Sheffield based). Whilst I appreciate that there can't always be a suitable lesson at a convenient time for me, it was made out to be a lot easier when reading up on how to arrange to attend at an alternative lesson. As Chrysalis are quite strict about missing lessons I imagine that someone working full time with a varying work pattern may find it difficult to schedule every lesson into their timetable.
Given recent changes Chrysalis now don't give you a copy of the handout and they are all online. I'm not sure if you can bring a laptop/tablet to class and look at them from those but I had to print mine off at home. I found this to be a bit inconvenient as I had to use more of my own ink to print and some of the class notes are quite long. I'm not sure what students who don't have access to printers or struggle with digital devices do in regards to getting class notes. The notes for the next lesson are only available when you send you send in the homework so if you are running behind I imagine that can cause some problems.
My only other point of criticism is that occasionally the homework can be somewhat repetitive. I found that I'd end up writing more or less the same thing for certain points across different journals as I didn't have any other way of writing it. Others also came across this issue as well.
Overall, I would recommend Chrysalis to anyone seeking to learn skills in Hypnotherapy and Counselling and wanting to get into a career in these areas. I'd maybe just make sure that you have the free time for the work outside of lessons and can comfortably attend lessons first before starting a course just so you can get the most out of the course(s) as they do get quite demanding at times in terms of work needed to complete.
I have really enjoyed the content of year 2 and 3. My tutor is fantastic and goes beyond her role of teaching us the set work from Chrysalis. Rhianan is very supportive in our learning. Feedback from our essays and journals have been more than thorough and very constructive. However without Rhianan I don't really have anything else positive to say about Chrysalis. I feel like once they have your money they don't really seem to care about supporting me with any queries. I have called the office several times with no one returning my call despite leaving a message asking them to. Then after 2 weeks someone got back to me saying they couldn't help but would call me the following day.... 3 weeks later and again several calls later I still have had no response. I would recommend a different course provider.
Amazing support and understanding from an incredible team and training provider
I have always wanted to pursue a career in counselling but life always seemed to get in the way. In 2016 I came across Chrysalis Courses and was drawn to them for the weekend classes that gave me flexibility to fit them around my busy life and for the fact they were an accredited course, accredited by the National Counselling Society.
The teaching was outstanding; both my hypnotherapy and counselling tutors were extremely knowledgeable and approachable and answered any questions or blocks I had. Study days are on weekends and the course also required a lot of outside reading and research, which combined with the in-depth and rich teaching has made me feel prepared to go out there into the counselling world and practice! The classes are made up of theory AND practice and also require a supervised placement to complete 100 hours in your final year, which means you finish the course putting your learning into practice and gaining valuable experience.
I have had to request extensions in order to complete my placement hours which I was apprehensive about but the team eased my worries immediately and arranged it all for me. I have had a difficult year due to health issues amongst others things and just when I was getting somewhere, my mum got diagnosed with stage 3 cancer the day after we went into lockdown throwing everything up in the air.
Amongst this I discovered I had got confused about the placement forms and would be missing some that were due around the middle of my placement which caused me to panic about this potentially costing me my diploma! It was a worry I didn't need on top of everything else and really felt terrible about it.
I contacted Lynne at Chrysalis and she completely put my mind at ease and reassured me that all would be ok. I have sent poor Lynne so many messages the last few months and she has always answered promptly, explained clearly, answered all my questions and allayed all my fears! The team at Chrysalis really practice what they teach students, that people make mistakes, miss things, mess up and that it is ok, there is always a way through it or around it!
At one of the hardest times in my life, Lynne has made the process of getting everything submitted easy and at my own pace, with no rush or pressure, with plenty of reassurance and kind words. She is a real gem!
I'm so excited to get all my work submitted and (hopefully!) get my qualification so I can get out there and start my dream career.
I have loved my whole Chrysalis journey and thank them so much for making my dreams possible. I can't recommend them enough.
I am just about to enter my third year studying with Chrysalis and my experience to date has been good overall. Throughout Covid-19 Chrysalis have worked innovatively to keep their students on track with their studies and have gone above and beyond in providing weekly Webinars which have really interesting, well presented, broad in nature and a great addition to the syllabus.
The pace of the course is ideal, and the content is spot on. My Student Support Liaison (Lynne) is always prompt and helpful in dealing with my queries.
Thank you so much Chrysalis for the amazing courses!
I have just completed my second year of The Chrysalis Diploma in Counselling Skills and Theory Level 4 and want to express my gratitude to the Chrysalis for the excellent courses. I enjoyed taking the Chrysalis courses. The tutors of these courses are exceptional and professional. I was fortunate enough to learn from such amazing teachers as Eileen Wellings (tutor year 1) and Nicolas Cullen (tutor year 2). They present the material in a very accessible form and demonstrate their ability to work with each member of the course. I liked that every knowledge we received we could consolidate by practical work, and if we had questions, our brilliant tutors were happy to help us and advise us how to do something better. In the next session, we repeated the past material and received new knowledge.
Thank you for all your attention and knowledge!
During the Lockdown Period, the Chrysalis team supported us during this challenging period by organizing free webinars and telling us how to cope with stress and anxiety. Thank you so much!
A special thanks I want to say to Student Support Liaison and especially Lynne Colling. She answered any of my requests for help very quickly and carefully. Thank you so much, Lynne, for your kindness!
I enjoyed every course I passed. I will be happy to recommend Chrysalis courses to my friends and acquaintances. Thank you so much again for the fantastic courses and knowledge we have gained!
I do find Chrysalis Adv. Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy good. I like the fact that course notes are available in advance of course days. Having no exams at the end of each year does have its advantages however the flip side of this is that are lot of assignments. This is a constant challenge combining family, work commitments with the large number of assignments to complete.
I found the response to continuing the course during Covid 19 very good. It was great being able to view webinars in advance of the course days and I think this is something that would worth continuing going forward. Being able to use Zoom for course days has its merits and not having to travel to venues. Some more support around seeking a placement/ counselling hours would be helpful. The level of experience of the tutors also adds to the quality of delivery of modules . Being able to view webinars on each module from more experienced tutors who can give more real live examples can support those less experienced tutors who rely quite heavily on reading directly from the course notes. I would also ask what is Chrysalis doing to secure BACP recognition considering that they did have it in previous times? Overall I would recommend this course to others.
Chrysalis need to review the administration and how they feedback to students.
I feel if I had know at the start what I know now I may not have started the course. I do not feel there is a great deal is support from the office and when the yearly case studies are marked by the aducators ther is not enough feedback returned knowing all the long hours and hard work that was put into putting each case study together.
Quite disappointing infact.
I am looking forward to competing my final year to take my counselling forward.
As Chrysalis goes the tutors are great just the back up and feedback on a years study is poor.
I am at the end of my Level 4 journey with Chrysalis and I can only describe my experience as amazing! I didnβt want an intensive course as I wanted to work at my own pace around my existing work commitments, aiming for a smooth and gradual transition to a new career. And Chrysalis supported me in every way possible. The office team are always there for support and guidance, good communication allowed me easy access to an additional information and needed extensions. My tutor had such a warm way of sharing her knowledge, I think we all felt encouraged and inspired. I am current looking into Level 5 with Chrysalis as I am not ready to say βgood byeβ just yet as there is more to learn.
