My Chrysalis Experience
Currently deferred at the start of year 3. I would say that Chrysalis is very good. The tutors I've had have been fantastic and the overall content of the course(s) is exactly what I wanted when I first started. The lessons and class notes are really informative and being able to explore lesson content as well as student & tutor input in lessons is really invaluable. They do a great job of reassuring you that its a safe and confidential environment and its been really easy to be open and discuss personal experiences and feelings, particularly with my classmates and tutor. The support that Chrysalis gives from the admin team as well has always been prompt and helpful in all the issues I've raised. They are really easy to contact and have always had an answer for me. One point of criticism I have is that if needing to attend an alternative lesson if you cannot make your own, some of the alternative sites and dates are difficult to make. Working full time meant that I had to miss one or two lessons and some of the alternative venues that I could make were miles away, one even up in Scotland (I'm Sheffield based). Whilst I appreciate that there can't always be a suitable lesson at a convenient time for me, it was made out to be a lot easier when reading up on how to arrange to attend at an alternative lesson. As Chrysalis are quite strict about missing lessons I imagine that someone working full time with a varying work pattern may find it difficult to schedule every lesson into their timetable. Given recent changes Chrysalis now don't give you a copy of the handout and they are all online. I'm not sure if you can bring a laptop/tablet to class and look at them from those but I had to print mine off at home. I found this to be a bit inconvenient as I had to use more of my own ink to print and some of the class notes are quite long. I'm not sure what students who don't have access to printers or struggle with digital devices do in regards to getting class notes. The notes for the next lesson are only available when you send you send in the homework so if you are running behind I imagine that can cause some problems. My only other point of criticism is that occasionally the homework can be somewhat repetitive. I found that I'd end up writing more or less the same thing for certain points across different journals as I didn't have any other way of writing it. Others also came across this issue as well. Overall, I would recommend Chrysalis to anyone seeking to learn skills in Hypnotherapy and Counselling and wanting to get into a career in these areas. I'd maybe just make sure that you have the free time for the work outside of lessons and can comfortably attend lessons first before starting a course just so you can get the most out of the course(s) as they do get quite demanding at times in terms of work needed to complete.
