It was very easy to use Centauro, which I and my familiy has done for more than 15 years. During the last two years the service has overall developed and the price for full cover insurance.
Centauro Rent a Car has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.

Horrible experience. The only way to get there from Madrid airport is with a shuttle( badly organized) and once we got there we had to wait hours in the sun in the queue.
una stella perchè meno non si può. sono imbarazzanti, servizio clienti ridicolo. Effettuato prenotazione online pagamento andato a buon fine ma la prenotazione no, quindi mi trovo ad aver pagato ma no ho nessun numero di prenotazione in mano. per fare reclamo devi compilare un form dove il numero di prenotazione è obbligatorio. ho doovuto contestare il pagamento al servizio clienti della mia carta di credito. Evitate questa società come la peste.
Finger weg! Bei Abholung des Autos war viel los und die Mitarbeiter dementsprechend kurz angebunden und unfreundlich. Von anderen Autovermietungen bin ich es gewohnt, gemeinsam mit einem Mitarbeiter das Auto in Empfang zu nehmen. Inkl. Erklärung und evtl. Dokumentation von bereits erfolgten Schäden. Ich bekam lediglich den Schlüssel auf den Tresen geknallt und musste das Auto selbst suchen. Bei der Abgabe dann die Abzocke: Mir wurde ein Schaden abgedichtet, den ich nicht verursacht habe. Und da ich leider keine Beweisfotos gemacht habe, wurden 270€ einbehalten. Das Personal, ebenfalls wieder kurz angebunden und unfreundlich, lies sich auf keine Diskussion ein. Nicht einmal ein Schadensbericht wurde mir ausgestellt. Nun hoffe ich auf Check24 und den Premiumschutz, um die Kosten zurück zu erhalten. Wie bereits in vorherigen Rezensionen geschrieben: Centauro lockt mit günstigen Angeboten und verdient am Ende mit solchen Methoden. Nie wieder Centauro. Einen Stern gibt es lediglich für die Nähe zum Flughafen und den Shuttleservice.

RUN THE OTHER DIRECTION! DO NOT RENT HERE!! We have rented from 4 different agencies in Madeira and have never had a bad experience until we chose Centauro, despite all of the previous bad reviews. We booked for a Fiat 500 and they gave us a very badly damaged Ford Focus. It had scrapes, dings, and large dents on all sides with fender even falling off on one side. When we told them we’d prefer NOT to take that car, they refused to give us another one, despite the fact they had a parking lot FULL of other cars to give us and it’s off season. They told us to take pictures of damages, which we did. When we returned the car, they pointed to a tiny scratch on the rim of the wheel and said it was “new damage”. Sadly, we had failed to photograph the wheels. Our mistake. But all wheels on most cars (in better shape) have scrapes anyway. The wheel in question on this car was the one closest to the worst damage on the poorly maintained beat up car, the passenger side where the fender was already falling off and the car door was completely bent up at the bottom. We did not scrape a single tire while we had the car. Obviously it had been used and abused and put back in the fleet for the next victim. We tried to explain this all to them, they refused to listen, they were rude to us, said there was nothing they could do, and charged us €600!!! For a tiny scratch on a rim that was already there!!! In addition we had given a deposit to take the car. Part of that was to be returned if we brought the car full of gas. We did. And instead of returning our funds, they deducted it from the €600 charge. This is not ok! It’s totally separate deposit money and that money should have been returned to us. I would give them ZERO stars if that was an option, but it’s not. Hence the one star which isn’t even deserved. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE WE’VE EVER HAD IN PORTUGAL…. Or anywhere for that matter, and we travel a lot and rent cars all over the world. Take heed. Read previous other bad reviews and run. Centauro is fraudulently taking people’s money!!!
Centauro a l’aéroport de Porto au Portugal, nous avons dû attendre la navette , rien n’est détaillé et ensuite à l’agence l’accueil très catastrophique un monsieur matte de peau et brun, très hautin qui vous prend de haut tout ça car il n’avait pas compris mon nom sur ma carte d’identité, il me disait que la carte bleue n’était pas à mon nom le contrat de location était à mon nom il me fallait une carte bleue donc à mon nom tous les papiers étaient à mon nom, et ce monsieur avait décidé de rien vouloir me donner pour me dire aussi qu’il fallait refaire un contrat au nom de mon mari avec une carte bleue à son nom et tout Il voulait nous faire perdre la location qu’on avait déjà payé et en plus qui nous disait qu’il pouvait pas nous aider qu’il fallait qu’on se débrouille avec le prestataire chez qui en avait pris la location de voiture. on a l’habitude de louer à l’aéroport de Porto, mais Centauro c’est la dernière fois car finalement ce monsieur-là avait complètement tort, une collègue à lui, c’est que c’est excusé à sa place en deux minutes, j’ai mon véhicule avec mes documents à moi, mais bien sûr tout ça pour nous vendre l’assurance tous risques.
Booking PR24126916 Disgraceful. Our car broke down on the side of the highway in madeira 2 days into our rental. After providing a replacement which worked fine, upon return at the end of our holiday, we were charged the full excess amount and presented with an invoice simply stating "driver negligence" as the cause. To this day we still do not know what the cause was. The amount of the tow+"damages" was, conveniently, the full excess amount (€1700+). Everybody spoke perfect English up until the point of us returning the vehicle (the morning of our flight back to the UK 7am), when the employee telling us we had to pay and had to sign a document so we could claim for our insurance, conveniently again, only spoke broken english (despite other employees we had previously dealt with who spoke perfect English being present). After repeatedly asking what they were asking us to sign, he still could not explain, other than to say "need for insurance". Stupidly, we signed as we felt pressured; we did not know what we were signing. They were extremely coercive- putting our bags in the airport taxi before presenting us with the invoice/ standing us in the middle of the garage in front of other customers etc. Incredibly rude and disgusting treatment of well paying customers. We asked if they could provide invoices/garage report as required as standard by our 3rd part insurer; they said we simply had to contact customer service and they would provide and that they didn't have said documents at the branch. Lo and behold, customer service has, to this day, repeatedly refused to provide said documents. Our insurer has also attempted to obtain said documents and they claimed under GDPR law they could not liaise with them. The irony! We are fully prepared to take legal action if needed, starting with a credit card charge back. Seems like a very well run scam which they are very experienced in pulling on unsuspecting customers. Distgusting, avoid. Edit: As you can see, centauro have replied to this review saying they will be able to resolve if we contact customer service- I have literally stated in my review that customer service has repeatedly failed to provide documents and evidence relating to our rental and charges billed to us. What a complete joke of a company. This should prove to anyone considering using them, to avoid.
Centauro dont return wrongly charged fees absolutely disgusting 🤮 Centauro still keeps my 1000eur 6 months since rented, absolutely disgusting and none serious company After renting car end of June where centauro took 4xrental amount then they wrote my account wasn’t “habitated” to return back the overpaid amount I checked in my bank who stated zero problems with receiving money 🤷♂️ now in mid September I still didn’t get it back and the costumer support stopped answering so had to hand over to lawyer to claim it. Disappointing after using their services years. At this point still no answer from Centauro besides new “smart” info - your claim is forwarded and answer within 8-10 working days what is also not kept…absolute 🤮

I booked a car online with Centauro Rent A Car Lisbon, Portugal for an urgent situation, paid in full online, and took a taxi to their office expecting to pick up my vehicle. What followed was the most frustrating and disrespectful experience I've ever had with a rental company. The rude receptionist informed me that they do not rent cars to people living in the country during this time of year and prefer tourists with flight numbers. He kept asking me for a flight number (which I obviously didn’t have as a resident), I explained my situation, only to be told he couldn’t give me the car I had already booked and paid for! My wife offered to give her fligjt numbers as she came to portugal 1 week ago, and this guy refused to serve saying this car is in your husband name. We told him to cancel booking in my name and make it in my wife's name. But to no avail. His cold, dry and unprofessional attitude was "only giving cars to tourists." I asked about my payment, and the receptionist nonchalantly said it would be refunded. No apology, no attempt to find a solution—nothing. My plans were completely ruined because of this unprofessional and discriminatory policy. Centauro Rent A Car is unreliable, disrespectful, and clearly doesn’t care about its customers. If you’re not a tourist, don’t bother wasting your time or money. Absolutely awful service—avoid them at all costs!
