I am not very computer smart
I am not very computer smart, so I will have to wait for my daughter to visit so she can tell me what I am reading. To put it mildly, I am computer illiterate.
Ancestry.com has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and reliable, though some mention concerns about customer service and expensive.
Review bombed, here is why. Originally I loved the service. However, I accidentally left a $70 subscription active. This...Read more

Wow it is incredible how my DNA connect. I had no idea what I was into Ancestry thank you so much.
My experience was great 5 years ago when I did my kit and my daughter and my son just did theirs it is so cool I'm very happy with my results it's been very helpful finding out about our family thanks
Why isn’t it placing family on the tree
All names listed as some kind relative unknown names. No close relation found
Easy to submit sample, quick results. The regional history seems to coincide with the ancestry research I have already done. The Ancestry genetics algorithm indicates my parents genetic contributions are reversed to what I know and have confirmed through secondary and tertiary investigations. The results also indicate that family folklore is incorrect, and that there is no Native American ancestry in the family line. I found the genetic traits information humorous. For me about half the information is incorrect (example: the information says that I’m blonde, possibly a redhead, but my hair was jet black until it went grey. Another example, the information stated that I am not flexible, but I am very flexible, at 70 I can place my palms flat on the floor while standing with my feet together and knees locked straight.) One thing that I found interesting was I was matched as being related to a person that I had never heard of. I reached out, and learned that I have another Cousin. Ancestry tells the consumer up front that there may be surprises in the ancestry, and to be prepared if the science shows unexpected results, a kind of “buyer beware” warning. Heed that warning if you cannot handle family surprises. All in all, the genetic information as to where past generations hail from is what I was primarily interested in, and it matches the research that I have done previously. There are a few family members back in the 1600s that come from some of the fringe areas on “Ancestry’s” maps. But, like I mentioned, those family members are many generations back, and they seem to fall within “Ancestry’s” margin of error. I now have some scientific evidence to support my research. Overall I am very pleased with the results, and would recommend the service to those researching their families heritage.
I’m so very disappointed that I need to pay a recurring subscription to obtain very very basic information. I think it was a waste of money for only receiving some very basic information about my parents and a few relatives. Not at all what I was expecting!! I do not recommend.
DNA information hard to interpret and hard to determine where my DNA links are within my main family tree. I can see the DNA link listed on my tree page when it's open, but how do I link information to that tree or does it happen automatically? Also, not clear how far back the DNA links to beyond the 5th gr-grand parents generations. It would also be helpful to have instructions as to how others can share their information. If I've missed the tutorial, that would be helpful to know that one is available. Thanks.
I was able to visually see on the map where I knew the majority of my ancestors came from. The part that baffled me was that the DNA profile didn't show the Native American Indian part of my Ancestry that I know is part of my heritage.
My husband has dementia and wanted to find out about his ancestry. I opened an email account for him and now cannot access his results
My DNA report is not attached to my account that already has a family tree involved. How do I fix that?
Not bad for entry-level info. Too many dead ends asking for more $$$ to continue.
I was really excited to do this, I was super thrilled when my results came in. I rushed there immediately! Then I found out that in order to see or do much at all in ancestry you must purchase a membership. On top of that monthly fee there are others if you wish to pursue your family's genealogy. The records and such was actually the only thing ancestry had over 23 and me. Sadly, I will end up leaving this search to others and look into other ways to get answers about my heritage.
Absolutely hopeless !!!!!!!!!! cannot get into it it’s useless 🤬
Every time I go there it says the page is not able to be seen to try reloading and i get the same thing. Then when I finally got there a second way it is WRONG..y great grandmother was native American and it says NOTHING about that. Waste of money!!
I was very disappointed with whzt you DNA kit gave me. Most everything I click on is trying to get me to commit to "25 bucks or more a month. I pretty sure it would be more on the same.
I've been looking for half of my dna for yrs and now I have a good start. Info u get is amazing. (Wish they could define more of like if a person is "half sis / aunt" tho thats big difference, lol , but Its overall great!!!!!!
Hints were useful since Ancestry started providing them. However, several weeks ago, Ancestry obviously updated their search algorithms that generate HINTS. They really messed up the whole HINTS feature. An example: Say I have a girl names Mary Jane Jones in my tree and she marries John Smith. I open hints and got to Smith where I find hints for Mary Smith, M Smith, M J Smith, J Smith, HJane Smith and sometimes just plain old Smith. In addition, I also get hints for Mary Jones, Mary Jane Jones, Jane Jones, J Jones, and just palin old Jones. And, some of the various Mary, Mary Jane, Jane and J Jones hints are highschool yearbooks. While highly doubtful that Mary Jane Smith would have been amrries in the 9th grade in highschool, it is possible I suppose. Bottom line here is that the Ancestry software development team has really overextended their "reach" in their recent search algorithm updates. I get so many hints now that I am honestly thinking of dropping my Ancestry subscription.
The registration was easy, the kit arrived in time with good guidance how to use it. The company sent me lots of information and the result was ready in the expected time period, however, it was disappointing. The result is not specific and too broad. I am from Hungary and the result confirm of Central and Easter European origin with little Balkan, German and Portugal. I expected a more specific European origins like Magyar, mongol, horvat, toth, gipsy...Most probably the database is not big enough to get these type of information. These are not stored, yet, in the Ancestry database. Most probably I should have tried my DNA analysis with a European or Asian (?) database. Therefore if you are from Central or Eastern Europe, do not expect interesting result from Ancestry. I know many people from other European countries who were very satisfied.
I'm happy to find out what all my ancestors are from.
