Ancestry Attempt

Disappointing to say the least. Many of the "traits" are completely inaccurate. I was interested to see my origins so that was satisfying. Would not recommend anyone to spend the money on traits though, rather like rolling dice.

I have had a very hard time using your website. I couldn’t find out how to enter my parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. Then when I finally had a chance to enter my parents, I was cut off after I entered my father. Please make this easier to do.

I've been using Ancestry about 15 years

I've been using Ancestry about 15 years, and have done about 15 dna tests on all family members from my husband to my sister's entire family and everyone in between. In fact, my husband was one of the first free dna test subjects when it all started. Between the dna and available records on Ancestry I have been able to trace our family back to the 1600's. I use it everyday and pray one of my grandkids will take up where I leave off.

limited accuracy and regional blindness of its ethnicity estimates

While AncestryDNA offers a polished interface and a large user base, I feel that i have to express serious concerns about the limited accuracy and regional blindness of its ethnicity estimates — especially for individuals with deep, layered ancestry in the Mediterranean, Near East, and Asia Minor. Despite my well-documented family roots in areas such as Asia Minor, a specific island in Greece, and the broader Eastern Mediterranean, the results I received were overly generalized and failed to capture the complexity of my heritage. Rich and historically significant populations like Levantines, Iranians, Armenians, Sephardic, and North Africans were entirely absent or collapsed into vague labels like “Greece & Albania” or “Aegean.” In stark contrast, third-party tools such as GEDmatch — as well as ethnicity interpretation engines on other platforms — identified clear genetic signals from Lebanon, Iran, Armenia, the Caucasus, Italy/Sicily, Maghreb, and even trace elements from South America. These findings not only matched documented family history, but offered a multi-layered view that Ancestry failed to even approximate. Frankly, for a service of this scale and reach, such lack of resolution and regional sensitivity is not satisfied, to say the least. It risks erasing centuries of migration, diaspora, and cultural identity in favor of an oversimplified, Western-centric narrative. At this time, I cannot recommend AncestryDNA to individuals with Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, or Anatolian ancestry who are seeking serious genealogical insight.

Amazing experience

I think everyone should go on this journey. I started it because I never knew my biological father. He married my mother and fathered 3 children under an assumed name. I found him, through Ancestry. This genealogy site is the best! As soon as I got my DNA results and linked it with my account, the messages from others with a DNA link to me started coming in. The first 2 within a couple of hours. Ancestry is top notch in their field. I now know where my ancestors are from and with Ancestry, I am learning so much. Update: I thought I found him but no. I have pinned up pictures and the only info I have that's provable. I won't stop looking.

Terrible service

Terrible service. Adverts portray a service that doesn't exist. I signed up for my mother. After filling in a lot of my family tree data Ancestry provided nothing at all. They didn't offer to fill in blanks using access to census records, which given the way they market their service should be the least they can do. Essentially the fee they charged was for them to provide an empty family tree for user to fill in. None of the information led to any form of discovery. Ancestry took my money & provided nothing.
