Unacceptable Billing Errors by Tomato Energy

I am deeply frustrated with Tomato Energy's billing accuracy. My July 2025 bill for the period of 1 June 2025 to 30 June 2025 was calculated using an estimated meter reading, despite my submission of actual meter readings on 29 June 2025 and 30 June 2025. This resulted in a discrepancy of 158 kWh. For context, my usage last month was less than 100 kWh, making the estimate over 1.5 times my typical consumption.This inaccurate estimate has led to a potentially inflated bill, which is completely unacceptable. I urge Tomato Energy to correct the bill using my submitted readings and overhaul their billing process to prevent such errors. This experience has completely eroded my trust in their service, and I highly NOT recommend Tomato Energy as a service provider. Once my contract term ends, I will switch to another provider and advise all my friends to avoid using Tomato Energy.

Spoke to Vijay in Sales. Very knowledgeable, helpful and professional. Good deal offered! Unfortunately, after this praise, I was let down by Tomato Energy. They confirmed the switchover on a specific date, on the date i went about my business using the cheaper rate electricity, but realised they did not switch me over as agreed/planned- whilst I spent over 6 times the agreed amount on electric supply- cut a long story short, they blamed National Grid and said sorry no compensation for their mistake. Debacle! Making complaint and off to the Ombudsman to ensure i am adequately compensated for a mistake by - not me! Shame they play the blame game opposed to taking responsibility!

Great experience.

Keep up the good work Tomato, I can see you’re going places. Extremely responsive customer service and Millie needs a big wow! Great website and prices, would highly recommend over the big boys! Don’t worry about Tomato being a small player, you have to start somewhere and, so far, they are very responsive. Love the company ethos for the community.

Had an issue with the move over from…

Had an issue with the move over from Octopus who froze the move. Pargat was extremely helpful and everything appears to be back on track now. Edit - Everything is not back on track at all. The move didn't go through as was expected on Sunday. Spoke to an agent on Monday who assured me they would call me back in 30 minutes. They didn't. Called again in the evening to speak to someone who for the second time read out another customers address and I felt wasn't listening while I explained the problem.

Tomato Energy to the rescue!

My parents had an issue with bills being taken out randomly over the month. We contacted Tomato Energy yesterday to rectify where Alan and Avery in the customer service team were able to quickly resolve the issue. The team even contacted my parents (who are currently abroad) apologised and made sure to fully explain and rectify the issue. All in all good experience and very friendly staff!

Top Tomato!

VJ looked after me when I called up to enquire. I made it clear I was calling up to enquire and not to change and he was very respectful of this and not pushy at all. However, he was still passionate about and proud of their offer. Because the Tomato product suited my needs, I decided to go ahead. VJ couldn’t have been nicer. I’d say top banana. But maybe I should say top tomato! It was a nice touch at the end that he actually officially yet personally welcomed me to Tomato. 🍅

Things seem to be going smoothly now!

I was a little uncertain about switching to Tomato Energy after the various difficulties reported by many users, particularly around billing. However recently it sounded like for new customers things were going a bit better. I made the switch on 8th Jan, and things seem to have gone well. The MyWatts dashboard is receiving the consumption data from my smart meter (some days it disappears but comes back, I think this is normal for me as Octopus was the same some days - might settle down!). I just received a call this afternoon from Tomato asking how the switch had gone, and they explained how billing would work. All seems clear and they will only charge for the actual usage which makes a nice change. Assuming all goes to plan with billing next month, for now I'm giving 5 stars :)

Spoke to VJ today about potential…

Spoke to VJ today about potential savings and transferring my supplier. Totally transparent and offering excellent deals. Unfortunately I would loose my fit payment for solar so it isn’t viable at this point in time. Shout out for a totally honest representative though as he talked me through everything and allowed me to establish the facts and make an informed descision.
