Unacceptable Billing Errors by Tomato Energy

I am deeply frustrated with Tomato Energy's billing accuracy. My July 2025 bill for the period of 1 June 2025 to 30 June 2025 was calculated using an estimated meter reading, despite my submission of actual meter readings on 29 June 2025 and 30 June 2025. This resulted in a discrepancy of 158 kWh. For context, my usage last month was less than 100 kWh, making the estimate over 1.5 times my typical consumption.This inaccurate estimate has led to a potentially inflated bill, which is completely unacceptable. I urge Tomato Energy to correct the bill using my submitted readings and overhaul their billing process to prevent such errors. This experience has completely eroded my trust in their service, and I highly NOT recommend Tomato Energy as a service provider. Once my contract term ends, I will switch to another provider and advise all my friends to avoid using Tomato Energy.

Cheap prices but ridiculous service

In short: yes they are cheap, but be prepared to have issues with them, and they are very ambigous about termination fees. You may want to pay more but have an acceptable service! I joined at the end of January. More than 3 months, and yet they have no idea of how much I am consuming. I have not been billed a single time at least, but I can only wait for a huge bill god knows when. I can only read on MyWatts "Your data will be available soon". Since January. I have called them 3 times. First 2 times they said "I'll report the fault, your data will we available in a week", but of course nothing happened. Eventually, the third time they admitted they have no idea of my consumption and when they will be able to know. The only reason I have not switched operator is that I have done some Googling myself and I'm now using the BrightApp . It took them 2 days to access my smartmeter and I can finally see my comsuption. Not had any problems with OVO either, but somehow Tomato is unable to access my Smartmeter data. Last but not least, they advertise their tariffs to have "No exit fees", however if you read the contract, THEY DO STATE THERE IS A TERMINATION FEE. I emailed them to enquire about it, but never received an answer. Excactly, the contract says "If You choose to switch suppliers, You can do so 49-days before the date of the Supply Contract is due to end or at the end of the Supply Contract without paying an exit fee. If You switch suppliers before the 49-days Switching Window and/or have outstanding charges, we reserve the right to object to the change, and/or charge You a termination fee". Quite ridicoulos!

Horrible company

This company is horrible. Your supply start date is 27-02-2025. Yet, they did not do it; I called three times, and they allegedly started to do it manually; it was going to be done within days. Three calls later, oh, we stopped. You owe Β£30 for failed transfer as per OFGEM rules

Pantomime of irregularity . . .

Apparently, and unfortunately, the only way to receive a semi-coherent non-generic response from anyone at any of the multiple teams at Tomato seems to be via Trustpilot (please note that I am by far NOT the only customer experiencing this anomaly). I am sorry to have to communicate in this way yet again. But Tomato's latest move is disquieting. Against my express request, I have been quite deliberately sent a wildly inaccurate bill, yet am being requested to pay the actual amount due. This is apparently the way that Tomato proposes to deal with their own accounting errors of the past 5 months, with the dubious assurances that "any discrepancies will be reconciled once we receive your actual readings in subsequent months" . . . "In subsequent months"! - How long can this take? "Any discrepancies"! - Note: all on the part of Tomato! "Actual readings"!! - Note: they have been given precise and timely actual readings every single month since the beginning of my contract! It is unprofessional to ask - with no explanation, logical or otherwise - that a customer pay the actual amount owed against a fictitious bill. This irregularity also messes with my own business accounting records. Please, Tomato, please: get your act together.

Swapped over to Tomato back in Feb and…

Swapped over to Tomato back in Feb and it was a simple move. Readings appeared in mywatts after a couple of days and I could see the big savings then. Had a nice follow up call with VJ today, who was very pleasant and made sure I had no problems.

No complaints at all.

Switched to Tomato in February of this year. Can't fault them. Great prices, app works well and a courtesy call from Colin today. I told him that the tariff that we are on works really well for our lifestyle! All good. Long may it continue!

I Joined Tomato in early Feb

I Joined Tomato in early Feb, change over went smoothly on the date arranged and data appears online and now in the new app. I've been billed and money taken by direct debit as expected. So far so good. Had a courtesy call from VJ who was very polite and helpful.
