Overpriced Stay with Surprisingly Poor Hospitality – Would Not Return
We recently stayed at NYX Hotel Limassol, and while the rooms were clean, the breakfast was good, and the business lounge was a nice space, the overall experience unfortunately left a lot to be desired.
Let’s start with check-in. We arrived at noon, aware that official check-in is later – no issue there. However, the receptionist’s attitude was… questionable. We were told to wait by the rooftop pool area, which was due to close in a few hours for a private event – not exactly a warm welcome. The receptionist promised to try and have the room ready early, which we appreciated. But after sitting in the lobby for over 3 hours, we approached the desk again at 3:20pm, only to finally be allowed to check in.
What stung even more was watching other guests being invited to wait in the business lounge – a far more comfortable option we weren’t even told about. Whether it was oversight or selective treatment, it didn’t leave a good impression.
The rooftop pool? Visually nice, but not functional. Open only from 10am to 6pm, with no sun umbrellas – meaning you’re expected to enjoy peak sun hours fully exposed. On top of that, it gets closed off regularly for private events. While that’s understandable for events, it makes you wonder what, exactly, the €500+ price tag is paying for.
Poolside staff were also notably unfriendly. No words were exchanged, but their body language clearly said we weren’t welcome there.
At the gym, I experienced an uncomfortable situation: while looking for a restroom, a spa employee shouted across the room, “Where does she think she’s going?” – loud enough for others to hear. As a guest, that moment was deeply awkward and unnecessary.
Another guest had an even more bizarre experience. After ordering food from outside (as many do), she was stopped by security and told she wasn’t allowed to eat in her own room, nor in the lobby. Fortunately, she stood her ground. But honestly, such rules – if they exist – should be clearly communicated and enforced with respect, not confrontation.
All in all, we’ve traveled extensively and stayed in many hotels. Unfortunately, this is one of the few where we left saying, “Never again.” The hospitality was inconsistent, the warmth absent, and the amenities were either inaccessible or poorly managed. Several friends who had considered staying here have now decided otherwise – and I can’t say I blame them.
Management would be wise to review not just their policies, but also how their staff interacts with guests. A hotel with this kind of pricing should offer more than just a clean bed and a decent breakfast.
WOWCHER NYX SCAM…AVOID!
After recently receiving a Wowcher to stay at the NYX Hotel in London I'm absolutely disgusted with the customer service response.
Whilst I can appreciate when purchasing said voucher, there may be restrictions on the dates available to find that there are only 3 days out of 365...yes that's right...3 days available within a year (2 in January, 1 in February) to redeem and use the voucher.
If you are not able to redeem on these 3 available days, additional fees are charged.
Wowcher has informed me that it is the hotel that makes the 'free' days available to the voucher purchaser, but only 3 days in the year is absolutely scandalous and a complete rip-off.
The hotel customer service are unwilling to assist in resolving this issue by offering alternative dates...we've found out is actually cheaper to book the hotel through Booking.com which I hasten to add we will not being doing so due to the way we have been scammed by not only Wowcher, but the NYX Hotel and their parent company.
DO NOT PURCHASE THROUGH WOWCHER as you'll be extremely disappointed not too mention out of pocket too 😡 Have now reported this issue to the FCA and Trading Standards.
NYX Bilbao
I recently stayed at the NYX Hotel in Bilbao for five days, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish.
The hotel’s modern and stylish decor immediately stood out, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere. My room was impeccably clean, well-appointed, and had all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. The bed was especially comfortable, ensuring I had a great night’s sleep every night.
The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of Bilbao, making it incredibly convenient to explore the city’s main attractions. Many great restaurants, shops, and landmarks were just a short walk away.
The staff were friendly, professional, and always eager to help with recommendations or any questions I had. Their warm hospitality added a personal touch to my stay.
Breakfast was another highlight, with a wide variety of fresh and delicious options to start the day. The attention to detail in every aspect of the service was noticeable.
Overall, I highly recommend the NYX Hotel Bilbao for anyone visiting the city. Whether it’s for a short break or an extended stay, it’s a fantastic choice for comfort, convenience, and excellent service.
