Japan Crate

After spending a month in Japan, I was looking for a good way to stay connected to Tokyo's food and culture. I first joined JC when they launched but had taken a bit of a break due to moves. I recently rejoined because my kids had been reminiscing about the fun treats we used to receive - well, JC still delivered! We all love the variety at a reasonable price. Def one of the highest valued subscription boxes out there.

Please read the many bad reviews of this company on multiple sites before buying a subscription. After six weeks and many emails they continue to provide misleading information about why no package has been delivered. Four weeks after the parcels were supposedly sent, I contacted DHL, they confirmed in writing a shipping label was created, but the items were never received by DHL. When I contacted Japan Crate many times with evidence from DHL, they kept saying the parcels shipped and were in transit. Then Japan Crate tried to say customs clearance and international transit times were the cause of the delay, which is blatantly untrue because DHL never received the parcels. UPDATE NUMBER ONE: Japan crate requested more information from me after I posted a negative review after six weeks of constantly emailing them requesting information. They didn't bother to look into the issue or answer any of my questions, despite written evidence from DHL showing the items were never sent. If they were serious about 'caring about customers' and had any intention of doing something about their appalling customer service, they would have followed up before I left a negative review. Disappointing customer service and after 7 weeks still no product. UPDATE NUMBER TWO: First month subscription boxes arrived eight weeks late. The contents of both boxes was good and represented ok value for money, but customer service was extremely poor, equal to, if not the worst I've ever experienced. UPDATE NUMBER THREE: This month no crates arrived (again), despite my Japan Crate account saying the orders have been fulfilled. I contacted Japan Crate, they sent me two bogus tracking numbers again. The tracking numbers tell me the parcels were successfully delivered to an address in the USA but I'm in Australia. BEWARE OF JAPAN CRATE'S SCAM AUTOMATIC SUBSCRIPTION RENEWAL, THEY WILL NOT CANCEL A SUBSCRIPTION AND WILL AUTOMATICALLY RENEW FOR ANOTHER 6 MONTHS SO YOU END UP PAYING FOR ANOTHER 6 MONTHS OF PRODUCTS YOU NEVER RECEIVE. Try Tokyo Treat (or Bokksu). Tokyo Treat are excellent and send you an email with tracking information and follow up after delivery. Both of these companies represent far better value and they are reliable.

I love that Japan crate provides a way to get authentic Japanese snacks no matter where you live. It's such a fun and interesting way to be connected to other places! The other subscription services under Japan Crate are also great since you can get a box based on you interests, whether it be stationery, food, cute things etc.! Thank you to the team who works so hard!

I've been a subscriber to both the Inku and Gacha Gacha Crate for over a year now. As with all monthly subscription boxes, the items change constantly and there will be months when not everything is going to be something you enjoy. However when the new year rolled around (2022) I noticed some changes with Gacha Gacha Crate. They stopped putting in their guide pamphlets that explain what you get. I found these extremely useful as most of the Gachapon in the crate only come with slips of paper explaining what the item is in Japanese. I can't read Japanese. They've changed it to a single sheet of paper that is the same every month, it basically explains that now the crate is more of a mystery and we get more Gachapon per crate. I'm a fan of the more Gachapon since now it really makes it worth the price. But I still want the guide back. Another not so great thing and more worrisome is the last two Gacha Gacha Crates I've gotten have all had multiple duplicate items that they've given us in past crates! April was the worst as every Gachapon in it was one I had already gotten through them. May was slightly better with three new Gachapon, but still bad as more then half the crate was items I have already gotten. I will say in both cases I was given a full refund, so their customer service is quite good. But quality control is an issue. But new subscribers shouldn't have to worry if they've never gotten a crate from them before. They're still a great way to get Japanese exclusive items in America!

Umai crate is excellent. My husband loves noodles and has really enjoyed each crate. He actually finishes the whole crate unlike other subscriptions we’ve tried and ended up eventually tossing a lot of it. The shipping to Canada has been very slow- about 2 months for one crate to arrive, but the company has good customer service (quick email response) and has changed who they ship with in response to customer complaints, so this should improve.

I love getting random items from Japan based around a theme. The Umai Craye gives me something to look forward to every month and I get the chance to try a bunch of new foods. My wife gets the Inku crate and uses all of the cute stationery for her pen pals. For the price, it's a pretty high value for both crates.

This isn't the first time I've had one of their subs and I've always loved it. I was so sad when I had to finally cancel my DokiDoki crate before when shipping went up. Hopefully now things being more stable I'll get to enjoy my goodies with no worries!

Japan Crate has definitely been fun and delicious. My kids love the monthly surprises that come in these boxes. There hasn’t been a treat that went to waste. Billing was a little confusing at first due to some changes they were making but it seems to be getting better as the months go by. We’ve been receiving monthly boxes since January 2022.

Every experience has been outstanding. From customer service to product selection, I have no complaints. The four stars is only because of the shipping issues I previously experienced but those seem to be under control now. The changes you made have made a difference.

I absolutely love my InkuCrate subscription!! I always look forward to every month’s crate and what I’m about to get. I rewatch the reels on social media all the time! 😅💜

I have been receiving Japan crates since almost the very beginning of the company. In the years that I’ve been receiving crates I’ve only once had an issue, I received a crate from the previous month. Customer service was quick to refund me for that month. If your thinking about trying them out please do. You won’t be disappointed, the selection is always changing and there are always new treats to try.

I have been a subscriber for a year. Delivery never failed. The variety of flavors and styles is a surprise every month. For ramen lovers, nothing better.

It is worth the wait. Good selections all the time.
