Review summary

Home Instead Senior Care receives a mixed response from reviewers, with a significant number expressing dissatisfaction. While some customers highlight the caring nature of individual caregivers and commend specific branches like East Bridgford and Market Harborough for their professionalism and support, many others criticize the company's management and communication. Common complaints include poor responsiveness, with several reviewers noting that calls go unanswered, leading to frustration in arranging care packages. Additionally, issues such as unpaid training, high turnover in management, and inadequate support for caregivers contribute to a negative perception. Despite a few positive experiences, the overall sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, indicating that many find the service lacking.

When I worked here

When I worked here, I must say the people I worked with were so welcoming and their families were brilliant, I was never asked to do anything I didn't want to do and left feeling empowered and a better person upon reflection I wish I could still do it but I'll leave it for the younger generation, in the modern day now it's such a dream come true when there are carers out there who really do care and you are so appreciated by those you visit, so sorry I had to leave. It's not at all how one perceives it you are totally respected, it's such a warm welcoming place with lots of laughter and getting to know such wonderful people and their families it's as if you were part of their family, all the hard work doesn't matter because they are so nice, I think they realise how much effort is involved and actually see you as a real asset not just an employee, it's like you are not just a commodity but like real. I've can honestly say I have never once met any of their clients who has upset my day I would highly recommend working for them, you definately leave knowing they're in safe hands with their loved ones and you've done your little bit of assist assistance to enrich another's life, it's the best place I've ever worked and my family could see it in my face, they always said to me, you look so happy and at ease, it's a great place to be.

dont waste your time, Bethlehem, PA

was working for a client and everything was going well. as soon as I had enough hours to get benefits I got a text message from owner that I was fired with no explanation. They told my client I quit, but that was rectified when he hired me privately and ditched home instead. They are a greedy , low life, low integrity company who treats employees like garbage and clients even worse. They also show up at unemployent hearings with lawyers and battle your unemployment claim. Go elsewhere.

HOMEINSTEAD- NORTHAMPTON - MOULTON PARK

This is the worst company I have EVER worked for!!! I should've seen the red flags before I'd even started. They advertised a full time wage and then got me to sign a zero hour contract. The training was on my birthday and I asked if I could make the next training day because of this in which they responded "no more training days for a while now, you'll have to come to this one or you'll miss out on the job." So ofcourse I went in. Only to find out they were doing training days every week!! As you can imagine I wasn't best pleased. We also got told that we would be paid for both training days. WE DID NOT. Okay so moving on to the actual job... The clients were lovely, Yeah the whole 3 clients I got in an ENTIRE YEAR were lovely. I got promised a full time job and got told I'd have at least 10 clients by the end of month 2 and that they would keep growing until I was on a full wage. This was total bull. Everytime I went in for a meeting I'd bring it up whilst in tears and they'd promise it was going to change. IT DIDN'T! I was really struggling. So I took it on myself to start doing my promo jobs again to fill in the LARGE gaps so I could get by and pay my bills. They would text about 30 minutes before saying they have put me in to see a client because someone else can't make it. (They would do this ALOT) they wouldn't even ask me, they would just put me in and tell me! Sometimes they wouldn't even tell me and then call me asking why I wasn't with the client. So eventually I spoke up about it and explained my situation and that they can't just throw me in last minute without asking me. Not only do I have other jobs booked in now but it's just not on! They were so rude to me and would just hang up the phone and send me snotty messages after. All the nicey nice management turned into really vile rude people. And then all of a sudden I was only doing 2 visits a week which meant I wasn't making any bills. They seemed to be extremely spiteful in the office. I'd gone into the office for another catch up meeting and I felt the entire office stare at me and then began talking amongst themselves, clearly about me. I felt extremely uncomfortable so that was the last time I ever worked for the company. About the clients and 'paid petrol'... I got promised paid petrol which was total bull. The 3 clients I had were missions away from my house so this was extremely frustrating and upsetting. What was even more upsetting is how little they care about the clients, 2 out of 3 of my clients and the family's of had nothing but bad things to say about the management. They were so little help in any situation. If I was ill with covid symptoms they would tell me that I still had to go and see the clients but I would refuse. Another carer was asked to do the same but she didn't refuse and for that her client ended up in the hospital with covid she had transmitted from the carer. One of my clients was struggling and was clearly extremely unwell and wasn't at all himself. As a new carer I called the office to ask what I should do (like they asked) their response being "Typical Peter, always something up. Just give him his dinner and put him to bed." I didn't, instead I called and ambulance. They had a go saying that I shouldn't of done that and that there was no need. THEN I found out he actually had a really bad infection on his brain. So thank f*** for me and f*** those in the office. I could honestly go on and on about all their s*** but I don't have the time. All I can say is, if you work for this company or hire them for a family member after reading this, shame on you!

Appalling standard of carer, creating risk and causing distress

We were truly appalled by the standard of care and the behaviour of the carer. At the basic level, she failed to attend to water intake, leading to dehydration. She put her client at risk by undertaking an ‘outing’ which appeared to suit her social preferences, rather than the needs of her client. She drank alcohol, whilst on duty. We would NEVER use Home Instead again and we warn others to be careful about the calibre of carer that they may send

caregiver

after 5 years, today I have terminated my employment with homeinstead chester... wasnt an easy decision, I have enjoyed my position, loved the team I worked with..and have had some fabulous clients whom I care deeply about. unfortunately having been taken over by new management, the whole experience has fallen apart, I have lost all respect and have felt totally alone and isolated, and had no contact or appreciation shown in the whole time.. I am not alone in my feelings and clients are also feeling disallusioned

Home Instead WEST VAN office terrible manager

The Home Instead office at WEST VANCOUVER is badly managed. From high turn over of staff to office cleanliness and office manager is untruthful, unpredictable and an unstable person. Their management style is from the 80's. The owner is barely there to observe what is happening. They only care about the money coming in, as their territory is the wealthiest in Canada with many seniors. Please do not work there, they will attract you with their kindness, but once you start working many challenges will arise. Vancouver has tons of better places to work.

Management only cares about themselves.HR was more interested in gossiping about caregivers personal lives. Schedulers regular pushed caregivers into longer shifts and routinely break the working time act. Avoid at all costs, you are worth more than working for Home Instead

Waste of time

Different story in the interview, different things in the contract, which they send pretty late. Horribly low pay rates, fixed hours only on the paper. In the reality, waste of time and money. Night and morning shifts, underpaid. Chaotic management. Not recommended.

Do not work for this company!

Do not work for this company! They advertised online for £11.50 weekdays and £13.50 weekends yet when I signed the contract I noticed in my first pay cheque it was actually £1 less for both weekdays and weekends, I emailed asking about this twice but never got a response. They do not pay you sufficient fuel costs, 25p per mile is below the gov minimum payment of 45p (which even then is too low with fuel prices at £1.40 for petrol, even more for diesel), I drove 3000 miles in one month and only was paid £150 for fuel, they claim the calculations are made via the ACP app but it is a complete lie. I asked for an investigation to be put in and to increase the fuel as a minimum effort and the head office replied saying they won't. The main problem with the company however is the absurd amount of time you don't get paid for, for months I had to wait hours in between calls (as was too long and financially impractical to drive to and fro) and was never paid for it. Can have a 10 hour day, assuming you start at 7:30 am one would assume you'd finish at 3:30pm, but no! You don't finish the last client until 9-10pm. A complete joke and immoral. I was also scolded by my superior for quite literally 'doing too much' as they said it made other carers who go in and don't do as much as they can to ease the clients lives look bad and can lead to negative cases. Imagine being told off for going above and beyond. I also only found out recently that I signed a 0 hour contract, the lady who assisted me in signing the contract asked my availability, to which I told her 20 hours (which was rarely adhered to in all my time working for this company) and she said she can't promise that amount so instead sign the other box which unbeknownst to me meant 0 hours. A complete shambles. The only positives were the clients themselves who were usually always a delight, wonderfully interesting, kind and grateful. I am a very busy individual, juggling school with working and I implore anybody seeking to work in care, especially HomeInstead, to tread carefully when looking for work in care; they take complete advantage. There is a reason why nobody why in the UK there is such a lack of carer's, the above is just the tip of the iceberg.

Home Instead have been amazing for mum…

Home Instead have been amazing for mum and dad since we needed care to help with Dad’s dementia. The company were recommended by the social worker and HI have been prompt, understanding and not at all pushy. The initial “pitch” was professional and not at all salesy. They never pushed my parents or made them feel intimidated. They aren’t awkward with family members either, they keep me and my husband fully informed and with my mum’s consent we have access to the care diary and also the log of all the work they do. There was one time the carer was late because of an emergency at her earlier appointment, but she didn’t cut corners and she stayed and helped for the allotted time. She apologies profusely, but there were no issues and she phoned ahead. The only downside is that it is expensive, but what private social care isn’t? There are several packages which you can choose from, ranging in budgets. HI have been an absolute lifeline.

I was so excited to work for this…

I was so excited to work for this company. The 3 day induction training was unpaid,Saturday Sunday and Monday 9am-4pm. I was a companionship caregiver, and my clients were dementia clients who I thoroughly enjoyed working with but I initially was told I would have 12hrs aweek but I only got 4hrs. As time went on I received 10hrs but that didn't last long before some clients were taken off me. I was misinformed about claiming car travel allowance so I never received any payments for 3 months and had to arrange a meeting with the main boss to finally receive it. The office staff come across as being supportive but aren't and continually lied to me concerning alot of issues.Never returned my calls. After I'd worked there a short while my client visits were obviously turning into personal care visits which wasn't the role i applied for.I covered holidays for other caregivers and was shocked at the lack of previous care the clients had been receiving. Once I booked a holiday and I received a phone call from the office asking if I needed the holiday as other caregivers that worked more hours than me wanted that day or me having one days holiday 'messed' it up for other caregivers holidays. I finally put in my notice I was told I had to work 4wks notice and then I would receive all monies owed including holiday hours accrued. I never had a contract but worked the 4wks as asked but never received the accrued holiday pay. I contacted the office and as always was told they'd get someone to look into it. Every call was ignored, every message was ignored. The caregivers are lovely, the clients are lovely and it was a pleasure spending time with them, but he office staff are not.

This company is one of the worst…

This company is one of the worst…. Sadly they asked me to write a review on my caretaker after a visit or two and said they would bring me a holiday bag. The good at bag is just the point I gladly wrote a nice truthful review on what I had experienced so far goodies or not! Unfortunately, it did not last very long so verbally abusive like I was the caretaker and the caretaker was the client…. Then then they sent me another young lady who showed up for work one day and then quit the company! Both girls were on the phone 24/7 on errands and at my home…. I also had to wait initially until they hired staff to even get started even though I needed immediate help. THEY STILL HAVE no staff and I was told today they have an 8 week waiting list and they didn’t even know if my service was active or not! The administrator Adam NEVER returns a call NEVER. This is a dangerous contract to enter into because they don’t do due diligence on their employees and they don’t take care of their clients either. To have to change companies will take a couple of weeks minimum and it doesn’t matter how I’ll you are. This place is NOTHING like the commercials you see on tv nor are their employees anything like what they show as far as assistance…. If I could give negative star rating I would 😥😓😰. Buyer beware and I am sorry I have to say that!

Home Instead Senior Care (Cheltenham and Cotswold) AH Care Ltd

The caregivers who work for this company are outstanding and go the extra mile even to the detriment of themselves. The management have a problem communicating with each other and is even worse with the client. When changes occur which is inevitable they are not passed to the caregiver or client. A lot of office changes have occurred in the last year to address issues raised. The changes have had no effect as they didn’t address the route cause of the problem, accepting you have a problem and putting measures in place to improve the situation. Their slogan to us it’s personal takes on a whole new meaning as they take positive criticism personally. This week they have dropped a number of local authority funded clients with 3 days notice, not the caring company they portray
