Review summary

Home Instead Senior Care receives a mixed response from reviewers, with a significant number expressing dissatisfaction. While some customers highlight the caring nature of individual caregivers and commend specific branches like East Bridgford and Market Harborough for their professionalism and support, many others criticize the company's management and communication. Common complaints include poor responsiveness, with several reviewers noting that calls go unanswered, leading to frustration in arranging care packages. Additionally, issues such as unpaid training, high turnover in management, and inadequate support for caregivers contribute to a negative perception. Despite a few positive experiences, the overall sentiment leans heavily towards disappointment, indicating that many find the service lacking.

I worked for home instead 2 years ago

I worked for home instead 2 years ago. At first they were a fantastic company to work for. But they soon learnt that I never said no, so was given more work, I questioned my pay as I was over working. They sent someone from the office to go through my pay and they worked it out that I was no earning too much. Because I am disabled and receive DLA. my money was stopped just before Christmas and when I rang H.I they said I would have to go to the food bank. Not long after this I had a fall at work, and was asked if I could promise it would not happen again. I couldn't do that so had to leave my job. I had little support when I had a problem with live in carers.

DISCRIMINATION

Went for what they called an “interview” but when I got there was just another chat like I had on the phone before having a face to face chat. The day after I was told I was not able to be employed by them because of the fact I’m pregnant, which when I spoke to manager on phone she said this was fine. If you want to be discriminated and false hopes go to this place. Absolutely appalled and disappointed

Avoid using this company

Can only review my experience with Truro. My mother was given the wrong medication by a carer causing her to collapse. A carer also stole cash from her purse at least twice (subsequently found out that another client had money stolen too). Sadly initially we didn’t believe Mother when she told us and that caused her great distress. She got up in the middle of the night to check the contents of her purse, fell over and broke her arm. From hospital she had to go into a care home as she could no longer live independently. She now thinks that all the carers there are wanting to steal from her ... Thanks for nothing Home Instead.

For the Portland

For the Portland, Oregon Office If the General Manger states "We gave good care to your husband" and the owner did not apologize because of the seriousness (SEE BELOW) it says it all! Morally wrong, breaks my heart! I had different caregivers because they could not get it right. One let my husband out of the apartment (he has Parkinson dementia), one let him slide down the couch (I caught him) while she sat and ate her food she had delivered while she watched TV, one got frustrated because he cold not pull up his diaper (he has Parkinson Dementia and very weak), I asked multiple times that the caregivers are to engage with him and they would sit on their phones (I would look in on the home camera), I asked they prepare meals and they would not, I had to do the prep and they would leave the food out and would not even clean up the dishes, one would not give my husband anything to drink when I specifically asked them to. One left my husband soiled in his diaper. There is more. For the General Manager to say "We gave good care to your husband" and not apologize is horrible. For the owner not to apologize is just as bad.

Unprofessional conduct

I can only speak from experience. I started my first placement with them recently and unfortunately whilst there I had notification that I had been in contact with someone who had been exposed to Covid. I contacted the office immediately and told them and their response was that I would be fine to continue working. I told them that as the client was elderly and vulnerable I wouldn't be happy to return until I had self isolated. That was two weeks ago, with no contact from them whatsoever. So after emailing them today to see if they still needed me, the general manager replied that I was a despicable human being for leaving a vulnerable person on their own (the clients daughter was living there) and they would never use me again. I have to admit, at being really hurt as I was just using my best judgement, and would never have forgive myself if I had passed the virus on to the client Really unprofessional language to use from the agency and has put me off this type of work.

Rubbish company stay well away!

Rubbish company, steer well clear! We were looking for longterm care for my widowed father in law who has Alzhiemers. Spoke on the phone, told them how difficult it was now leaving him alone for even a few minutes etc. 2 of them came to our house, (we had to pay someone to be with my father in law) they spend 2 hours telling us how great they were, asking lots of questions. Promised to get back to me with 2 days. heard norhing from them! 2 weeks later I emailed their head office to complain. They very quickly said it's nothing to do with them as it's all franchised. Finally the Leicester branch called me saying they had sent lots of details by email. Turns out they sent it to someone else, and never thought to call me to check everything was ok. The woman couldn't even write down an email address correctly! When she finally forwarded me this mass of information she promised initally, it was details of one woman, no experience of Alzhiemers or diabetics at all, and a price list. Nowhere near anything we asked for! Money grabbing load of rubbish, they haven't got a clue. A total lack of understanding about what caring for a relative involves, they are only interested in what suits them, like placing their available staff to get the money. Poor dosen't start to describe this immoral company

Great Entry Level Job for Those Exploring Healthcare Careers, Supportive Work Culture, Promotes Professional Growth

Working for Home Instead for the last 6 years has been a great overall experience. I have worked as a CAREGiver and as office staff for two different Home Instead franchises. Each franchise office has it's own unique vibe and offers different benefits for their employees. Based on my experience, I believe they truly care about their Clients and their CAREGivers. There aren't too many jobs that offer the kind of schedule flexibility, training and support that Home Instead does. Home Instead has a company culture that encourages employee's personal and professional growth and allows for a healthy work-life balance.

I wouldn’t hire them to take care of my parents

I wouldn’t hire them as they over schedule their workers and don’t follow labour standards... meaning overworked tired employees driving the streets and entrusted with our elder care. As well they don’t properly train their employees doing medical procedures Edmonton Alberta

Turned down as I had the wrong address

I would like to mention that I had to give a star in order to proceed with this review. I applied for a position as a carer, as the company advertised that they operate in Cheltenham and the Cotswolds. A lady phoned me and asked me where I lived and when I said that I lived in Bourton-on-the-Water, she said that it will not work as all their clients are in Cheltenham. The more I tried to explain that I am happy to travel the more I was told that it would not work. I was astounded that I was turned down on where I live. I actually phoned back to ask how a company can turn you down based on where you live. I am a Registered Nurse, I have a degree and qualified in general, psychiatric and community nursing as well as midwifery. I am South African, but married to a British citizen. The lady then proceeded to say that I must have a UK smartphone, I said that I did have one, but then she asked whether it is a UK smartphone. I found this quite strange. A smartphone is a smartphone, I have a UK sim card with a UK number, she knew that because she phoned me on the number. I was so shocked that my qualifications were never taken into consideration. I found this "interview" totally unprofessional.

false advertising & discrimination

Very rude & abrupt 'interview' - the advert reads Cheltenham & the Cotswolds, as soon as I said I was in a village in the Cotswolds, but not in Cheltenham, I was told there is no possibility of work & I was not even given a chance to say i have my own transport & am willing to travel... Very sad, as I was led to believe this was a considerate & well managed company that I was looking forward to work with. Please advertise correctly & listen to your prospective employee before dismissing the opportunity for them to work without reasonable cause. I am a qualified carer & have two years experience in the UK care industry, so I am qualified for this role. I was not given a chance to speak during the interview process, which is usually a conversation allowing both parties opportunity to communicate effectively, perhaps better training in communication & non-discrimination can be given.

Waste of time.

No real job behind the job offer. After an interview there was a free unpaid 2 day course via Zoom. Lots of policies to read in spare time. They've asked for a fee for DBS which was free under Covid-19 (they didn't even check that). Was promised a job but once they've gathered all information they've stopped replying to emails. Complete waste of time.

Home Instead Charlottesville VA!

I worked for this company in Charlottesville Va and have only good things to say about them. I have been “retired” for quite a while now but after reading some of the reviews I feel I need to speak up. The people I worked for couldn’t have been more caring and kind. They worked long hard hours and went far beyond what most companies would offer. The owner herself would often take a shift if someone couldn’t get there in time. Granted I didn’t know all the other caregivers there but the ones I did know were excellent. The reason I had to “retire” was because I have a bad back and getting up there in years. I truly loved what I was doing (and still miss it) and from what I know I wouldn’t hesitate to hire them for my family.
