I bought an X3 M50 from the Borehamwood BMW dealer. I got a good deal and the lead up to collection was fine. On the day of collection the salesman helped me check the vehicle for defects and he clearly noticed a defect on the dashboard as he was picking away at something. As he didn't flag it up I assumed it was nothing or he had resolved it. It turned out (I discovered a week later) that there was what appeared to be a defect in the dashboard material. I had to get my local dealer (in Portsmouth) to rectify the problem. The Borehamwood salesman promised to get the aftersales manager at Worthing to get in touch with me to sort it out but after two and a half weeks he has not been in touch. All of this has left me with a less than good impression of Group 1.

Avoid Southend Audi – Misleading Sales Practices and Poor Customer Service I recently attempted to purchase an Audi A4 Avant Black Edition (LN74 UCF) through Southend Audi, dealing with salesperson Liam Arch. From the outset, I sought clarity on the car’s history, specifically asking whether it had been an ex-demo or ex-rental vehicle. I was explicitly assured via email that the car had been an Audi purchase used briefly by staff before being sold to dealerships. Based on this information, and with the car’s low mileage of 1,055 miles over less than five months, I proceeded with the purchase, securing finance, paying a £500 deposit, and traveling from Scotland to finalize the transaction. I was also assured the car was in excellent condition, with no visible marks. However, upon arrival, my inspection revealed significant concerns. The boot contained excessive dog hair, and both the bumper and boot sill had noticeable scratches and scuffs—contradicting the guarantees I had received. Additionally, the registration plates bore the name "Apex Easifleet," raising suspicions about the vehicle’s true history. Further investigation confirmed the car had been registered to a lease company rather than Audi UK. Despite raising these concerns with a manager at the dealership, the explanations provided were inconsistent and unconvincing. Had I been transparently informed that this was an ex-lease car, I would never have committed to the journey, let alone considered the purchase. This experience resulted in unnecessary financial loss, including at least £500 in travel and accommodation expenses, as well as two lost days from my holiday. To add insult to injury, despite Southend Audi's website stating complaints are acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 14 days, I have received no response 56 days after filing mine. I now await the 80-day mark to escalate the issue to the Motoring Ombudsman. I strongly advise prospective buyers to exercise caution when dealing with Southend Audi, as transparency and customer service appear to be lacking.
