Please do not waste your money with General & Medical, the worst company I have ever had to deal with. They are very unhelpful, their claims process is ridiculous and they will not cover you for anything as even if you visited a doctor at any time in your past they will say it is existing. Then they try to threaten you so that you can’t cancel. Please save your money, worst company ever. I have also put a complaint in with the financial ombudsman.
After eight years of paying into this policy without ever making a claim, I finally requested reimbursement for a dental treatment. According to the paperwork, I’m entitled to £100 per year for minor treatments. The total cost of my treatment was £71 — yet I was charged a £50 excess, meaning I received a grand total of £21. To add insult to injury, I’ve just learned that this has been marked as a claim. When I signed up for this policy, I was explicitly told that dental reimbursements were excluded from claim records — they weren’t considered claims. Now, suddenly, they are. This is nothing short of a joke and only highlights how manipulative General Medical has become. It’s clear the terms and conditions have changed since 2017 — and it makes me wonder what else has been quietly altered since the day I purchased this policy. Do you really think I care about that £21? Of course not. Keep it- G&M!!!. But rest assured, you’ve lost a customer — and I sincerely hope others see through these practices before falling into the same trap. 17.3.25 Quick update: G&M flagged my review as not complying with Trusted Reviews' guidelines—essentially, they didn’t like what I had to say. Absolutely useless. When making a claim they will firstly ask for all you medical records, this can take up to 28 days, leaving you in no mans land. Secondly, these records will be looked at in infinite detail to find even the slightest reference to an existing diagnosis, no matter how old, for them to refuse your claim. You would be much better putting the cost of the monthly payments away and then using that pot for any future issues with your health.

Having been a member of General Medical Insurance for many many years, enjoy the peace of mind this health cover gives to myself, husband and all of our immediate family. It’s invaluable knowing we have now got cover for Worldwide travel, which we have had previously with General Medical. Biggest thanks go to Matt Dudhill for the terrific help, patience, understanding, information and follow up confirmation and very kind voice at the end of the phone that made this process greatly received.

bit of an administrative nightmare TBH but once Team Leader Damian got involved everything went really well.
Error in setting up account, delays on claim. Hasn't been the best experience. When making a claim we find out the joint account wasn't set up properly (they then tell us that was our fault, when we followed everything they told us to do). Then tell us there are letters on the portal - log in, nothing there. Then another call, they then upload the letters onto the portal. Causing at least 5 days of delays to a claim. Make sure you can see your portal. Make sure you follow up every claim as it seems that a system based on technology has room for impactful errors.

So awful. They never respond in good time. I share the same contact as my colleague and never once has she acknowledged an email. Two days and no reply about a claim. Utterly useless and will be changing to BUPA. I have the top tier in their silly healthcare plans and might as well not have bothered. Avoid and go elsewhere.
I have been a customer of General and Medical for several years, but my recent experience has been highly disappointing. Following an illness, I needed to claim on my insurance for the first time and called for a recommendation for a consultant. The gentleman I spoke to was very helpful, and I went with the recommended consultant. However, the problems began after that. For over two and a half months, both the consultant and the hospital have been contacting me repeatedly for payment because General and Medical have not paid. General and medical say they will pay but have long delays in processing claims. This has left me, an unwell patient, stuck mediating between them and now the consultant is saying due to the delay I am now liable and they will escalate to civil recovery. Despite the treatment being pre-authorised, I have had to send numerous emails and make several calls to try and resolve this issue and now genuinely concerned I am going to have to pay to prevent bailiff’s. My attempts to speak with my client relations coordinator have been frustrating as well. He is either unavailable or does not respond to my emails. This lack of communication has been incredibly aggravating as I feel no one is taking responsibility to help. To make matters worse, both the NHS trust and the consultant have expressed their unwillingness to service General and Medical patients in the future due to these payment issues. This is particularly upsetting as the doctor has been amazing and has helped me significantly. Overall, this experience has been a source of stress and disappointment. The lack of timely payment and poor communication from General and Medical is unacceptable. I expected much better service given the premiums paid and my long-term relationship with the company. The positive side is when you speak to the staff, they are friendly and polite.
