A very strange case

A very strange case - I read that they went bankrupt in January 2019 and their clients switched to other operators. But, my friend made a switch to them in October 2021 and the gas card works normally ... What is going on ?????

Closed down by Ofgem.

Ofgem closed down Economy Energy in January 2019 following an official investigation into the supplier. In June 2018, the Economy Energy suffered backlash after customers complained about money being removed from their bank accounts without notice or explanation. The main reason for complain was that customers insisted that their accounts had been in order and that they owed no money to the supplier. This signaled the beginning of the end for the supplier. Customer complaints led to Ofgem opening a formal investigation, and at the beginning of 2019, the regulatory body banned the supplier from taking on new customers. One week later, the energy company ceased trading.

Was with economy energy for 1 year and…

Was with economy energy for 1 year and have now switched. My account is in credit by £300 which I have been in contact to get refunded back. 1st excuse was i need to wait on the final bill to be verified. so i tried contacting again the following two weeks to then be told my refund can now be "reviewed" for a refund. Now I get told there is a backlog and they can not tell me when my refund will be processed. If you have credit in your account you should automaticity get a refund and a email to confirm. I have had nothing. Ive asked on webchat even just for a confirmation email and nothing. seems to be a 4-8weeks wait is all i'm told and now with a big backlog of refunds and no timescale.

Awful, avoid at all costs

I left this company on 18/09/18 with a credit balance of about £200. I rang up to request this shortly after this date, and was told that to get a refund, they needed to produce a final bill, after that they would take care of it and would refund me within a few weeks. The said the final bill would be produced within the week. After not hearing anything from them for a few weeks, I chased up via the the webchat, to be told that they could not refund my account until a final bill had been produced (turns out it hadn't after my initial call), and would then take 28 days to be refunded. Again, after hearing nothing, I phoned up today (11/05/2018), to be told that my refund request hadn't been processed because I hadn't requested it! Conveniently, there was also no record of my original call! I was also told that, because it was a busy time, they could not commit to a date for refunding my money, but it was likely to be longer than the standard 28 days (Incidentally, their website claims credit balances will be refunded within 14 days of request, I suggest not to take anything they say seriously). I was told I couldn't talk to a supervisor because "they wouldn't want to talk to me about this". When I asked to make a complaint, I was told that this would be logged and details emailed to me for my records, but, surprise-surprise, no email received. I would strongly advise anyone considering joining Economy Energy to reconsider, they unnecessarily put up your direct debit shortly after joining leading you to overpay, and will make all excuses under the sun not to return your money. A quick look at the other reviews shows this is a common experience, I only wish I had looked into this before signing up.

Left Economy Energy a while back

Left Economy Energy a while back. Received a letter telling me I was in credit with my account and I was due a refund. After contacting economy energy about said refund, they said it would be put into my bank account 28 working days later. It's now nearly 50 days without a refund. What an absolute joke. Also, I was waiting 16 weeks for a smart meter to be installed. I took time off work to try and accommodate engineers to ensure installation was successful. However, after countless lies and false promises, I got fed up and went with another energy supplier. I'd advise anyone to steer clear!

Terrible when trying to switch- They don't produce a final bill and then hold onto you as long as possible meaning any final meter readings provided are no longer valid. Avoid

Economy Energy - don’t trust this company! I’m owed almost £900!!!

I reviewed this company last week and it was the only way they acknowledge anything- so I’m going to submit this review again slightly updated. Thank you trust pilot for being there for people to raise concerns! Again, as many of your reviews are saying- they are refusing to pay me back almost £900 credit from my account after switching to another supplier. This has been ongoing for almost 8 weeks now. I went live with my new company on the 17th September 2018. They only generated the final gas bill on the 30th October, the electricity bill was generated on the 01/10/18. I am a pensioner on the at risk register with a chronic illness. I have written two emails requesting my money back from them - I have live chatted with them requesting it back - I’ve phoned them!!! They just kept saying it can take up to six weeks and when that stage past - they have now said 6-8 weeks!!! That 8th week is this week on the 8th November! It is criminal they they can just hold on to peoples money like this. If you go to the Ombudsman- they haven’t got the ability to fine the company - so the company can literally just use this as a further excuse to withhold your money for even longer! I’m going to the national news papers instead and going to post on every review site that I can! This might create enough bad press for them to accelerate giving good paying people their money back. I’m disgusted by my treatment - I would advise that NO ONE should bother switching to them, even if they are the cheapest. I will keep finding other review sites and posting on them to warn others not to go with them! Disgraceful treatment. They’ll probably pay lip service to this review to make it look like its all been a very bad mistake by saying “please contact us via live chat so we can sort this out, sorry for any inconvenience this has caused” - as they did when I posted on trust pilot - it was signed by (Kara). It’s probably an automated response set up to counter bad reviews and make people think that they’ll sort things out asap! They will not. When they reply to my email and give me my money back I’ll stop giving them bad reviews.

Truely awful company to deal with. Keep getting demands for payment when the account has been settled and closed. They are not interested in the customer or take ownership of issues. Avoid at all costs.

Just moved from economy energy what a…

Just moved from economy energy what a useless company had nothing but problems with them most of the time I,ve been with them. Their attitude to me has been terrible. At the moment I am trying to get a refund for my gas and electricity they tell me it will be 6 to 8 weeks when they will produce a final bill and then i have to contact them and they will arrange a refund, but looking at the reviews I don't think that it will happen that quick. If I owed them money I am sure that they would not wait 8 weeks for it. I am now going to put my case into the hands of Revolver and let them deal with it. My advice to anyone thinking of joining them DON'T.
