I'm Irish in UK and I wish I had not falled for it
I'm Irish - Thought they could be trusted was wrong Don't not get a mortgage with all the fees etc.
Bank of Ireland has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service.

if there were 0 stars, that would be better! awful service, my husband and I asked for a credit card with them and they are always finding new things for us to send to them, and mind you that we have a joint account AND a mortgage with them! they are f awful!
Don't get a Mortgage with this bank, the online portal is pathetic, trying to make an overpayment is a monthly nightmare for me, I cant just simply set it up as a direct debit or call them to do it as that's not allowed, and the online platform is like it was built by cavemen. I personally think they make it as difficult as possible so they continue to make more for the interest payments which surely borders on its legality. On top of that my last overpayment is dated Feb 23 on my online account even though I've been making Monthly overpayments every month since then and they don't take overpayments off the account if below £500 so when I make overpayments they can sit somewhere until I message them to take them off. Honestly useless is an understatement, worst experience I've had with any bank and cant wait to switch as soon as possible.
Crime Report submitted at request of bank some month ago. I realise not the only purpose of bank perusing me to submit a crime report on fraudulent transactions was to create an alibi to rebuke action to recover funds. Transaction Dispute now just a joke. No meaningful responses returned, just the usual kick around of data. You might as well be blowing bubbles as corresponding. Try setting up an account at Wise, its 1000 times more useful and is actually under the control of a financial regulator rather than the jokers in Dublin.
I wanted to give below 1 rating, but unfortunately that is lowest, For one month they are working on my new current account application and now got an update, that If you can not wait, we can cancel your application
Roseanne in Sligo branch so helpful to me today with my issue. I cannot praise her enough. Her expertise in banking and customer service skills are excellent.
Worst bank from Ireland
Slow & glitchy app, condescending, unhelpful customer support, unreasonable fees that can't be justified..Would give 0 stars if i could. Just go with any of the digital banks instead.
Always issue with 3Dsecure code, rang customer service but they are not willing to hellp
Mrs Hardigan at Bank of Ireland Sligo, Ireland, was very helpful in helping my mum order a new card and pin. Her account is in a U.K. branch of Bank of Ireland in Northern Ireland. She was very friendly, courteous and really wanted to help my elderly mother. Thank you for your kindness and great service.
Who would want to be with a bank that takes one full day not including weekends and bank holidays to send a simple bank transfer. Get with the times please
Yesterday another banks ATM ate my card. Claire at Bank Of Ireland was just amazing. I was in such a state as its very near Christmas. Id like to thank Claire and i hope her management team recognise her worth. I wish all businesses had someone like Claire it would make life a lot easier in a very fast moving, stressful world. N.ireland Bank of Ireland please reward Claire. Thank you.
Trim branch Bank of Ireland is extremely disappointing. The service is very poor—everything takes an unreasonably long time, and it feels like no one knows what they are doing. The employees are completely uninformed, and getting help or clear answers is nearly impossible. I wouldn’t recommend this bank to anyone looking for efficient or reliable service.
Your staff is what makes Bank of Ireland absolutely brilliant to deal with! Christine from your Debit Card division just spent about 20 minutes with me on the phone going through - step by step - the process I needed to follow to cancel a recurring debit. We had a few hiccups along the way, but she came up with solutions to fix it for me so that we could continue She apologised for the process taking so long (its not HER fault UMR’s are SO long!) and in the end everything got sorted and accomplished Literally 99.9% of the time, this is the exact same level of service we get from anyone and everyone that takes our call Its people like Christine that make people love dealing with Bank of Ireland Thank you for all of your help today!
Great to speak to the team today and supported me.
everything in this bank is by phone, if someone is mute they won't get anything done, even an account opened 20 years ago requires calling them!!!! ,in addition, they charge fees for using the card in the EU. I am looking for a bank where there will be no such restrictions which is more friendly....
I have banked with BOI my whole life. I tried to open a savings account last week through their web platform and I have to go through a process of proving my identity (Photo IDs, proof of address). I have 2 forenames on my Photo ID but only go by one of them and have always gone by that forename with the bank. I am now unable to open a savings account with a bank I have been with for decades as I don't have a proof of address to match one of my forenames (I do not go by that forename and never have!)
I recently worked with Carol at the Bank of Ireland, their Kilkenny branch , to secure my mortgage, and I can’t speak highly enough of her professionalism and support. Even though I hold an account with another bank, Permanent TSB, their outdated and paperwork-heavy process prompted me to seek alternatives, and I’m so glad I did. Bank of Ireland’s mortgage offer was more competitive, and the process was incredibly streamlined, allowing everything to be handled online or directly through an agent, which was a huge relief. Carol was exceptional from start to finish – she was always available for questions, provided clear information, and responded promptly to any additional requests I had. Her dedication made the experience so much easier, and I felt fully supported throughout the process. I highly recommend Carol and the Bank of Ireland to anyone looking for a smooth, hassle-free mortgage experience!
Customer service my eye. One person on customer service desk (not the employees fault)each enquiry takes from 5 to 10 minutes each. ( not the customers fault) Queuing for 25 minutes. Wonder do the top brass in BOI have to wait that length of time in their ivory towers. Bring back the 80's and 90's when customer service meant the words. Just a note as well all the people in the queue are over 50 and have to stand. Maybe the top brass could at least spend a few quid supplying chairs for people to sit on
Disappointed, I've been a loyel customer for decades with two existing accounts, yet if I want to open a fixed term deposit account I have to go through the whole process of having to prove my identity ! Its senseless and I will put the money elsewhere as theres no benefit of keeping it in the Bank of Ireland
