A Bad Experience and a Damage to Trust – I Do Not Recommend It

Double Injustice – My Car Rental Experience (Date: 07.07.2025 – Location: Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport) 🔹 1. When I Picked Up the Car: The company claimed the car was delivered with a full tank but mentioned the fuel gauge might be faulty and suggested I check it at a gas station if I had doubts. So I immediately drove to the fuel station located inside the airport and found out: the tank was not full. I filled up the tank myself for 370 TL – I have the receipt as proof. I informed the company right away and requested a refund based on the full-to-full fuel policy stated in our rental agreement. 🔹 2. When I Returned the Car: Before returning the car, I once again stopped at the OPET fuel station (just 4 km away from the drop-off point) and filled the tank completely. I then delivered the car to the branch. Despite this, the company claimed the tank was not full and said 4.31 liters of fuel worth 225 TL had to be added. At the time of return, the car showed a range of 580 km, but in the photo allegedly taken by the company after fueling, the range was 490 km – a suspicious difference. Mathematically, this makes no sense. I drove around 3,000 km with an average consumption of 5.5 L/100 km. To lose 4.31 liters over a distance of just 4 km is not only unlikely – it's practically impossible. --- ❗️Critical Warnings for Future Customers: ✅ Always check the fuel level, mileage, and dashboard data both at pickup and drop-off. ✅ Take photos/videos of the range and fuel gauge. ✅ Keep all receipts, especially fuel receipts. --- 🔴 Conclusion: The car was handed over to me without a full tank. Despite returning it with a full tank, they claimed I didn’t. I was unfairly charged – twice. I still haven’t received the documents I requested (handover report, extra charges breakdown). Unfortunately, this experience reflects a lack of transparency and poor customer service. I do NOT recommend renting from this company.

Extremely unprofessional

Extremely unprofessional. We booked a car and afterwards found out that the rental requires a credit card at the desk. We attempted to call the company and they told us that you can come by the desk and we can maybe find something out, but there is no guarantee. To be certain we tried to call again another day and then they told us that it’s not possible to rent the car with no credit card.

Unjustified Charge and Lack of Transparency – Disappointing Experience with AVEC During a recent trip, I rented a Peugeot 408 through Booking.com and had a deeply disappointing experience with AVEC Rent a Car. While driving on a narrow countryside road in the Urla area, I came to a stop behind two vehicles due to a tractor blocking the road. The tractor driver signaled that it was safe to pass. As I attempted to drive through, the rear left side of the car lightly brushed the cart, resulting in three small hairline scratches above the rear left wheel—very minor cosmetic damage. When returning the car, I was completely transparent and explained what had happened. The staff handed me the phone to speak with a manager, who told me that because my insurance was through Booking.com and not with AVEC directly, they did not recognize it as valid. He said they would inspect the car, issue an invoice, and charge my card—after which I could submit the invoice to my insurance provider for reimbursement. When I asked for an estimate, I was told they couldn’t provide one until the inspection. Shockingly, just 5–10 minutes after returning the car and while I was at airport check-in, they charged 50,000 Turkish Liras (~1,500 EUR) to my card without sending any invoice or explanation. To date, I have received no documentation or justification for this excessive charge. This experience felt exploitative, especially given the minimal nature of the damage, my honesty, and the complete lack of transparency or follow-up. I strongly advise anyone renting through Booking.com or AVEC to be extremely cautious. If you’re using third-party insurance, be aware that AVEC may not recognize it and might charge you a large amount without warning or proper documentation.

It’s a scam, stay far away

Rented a car that was more expensive than, and still got the cheaper one, and not getting a single penny as a compensation for getting a cheaper car, and they refused either to compensate the difference, nor would refund me all the money. Stay as far away as you can, it’s just a scam

AVEC rent a car- İstanbul

The main take away from my recent horrible experience with AVEC is that at anytime (could be weeks or months) after the renter returns the car undamaged and receives back full refund of his/her the deposit, AVEC can claim that they found a problem with anything under the hood or on the underside of the car, or the electrical system and charge the renter's credit card without PRIOR notification, discussion and approval by the renter. This is exactly what happened to me which is similar to many the reviews written below. Below are the details of my experience; I rented a car from AVEC Istanbul Airport branch for 9 days and I returned it on the 9th day (on 05 January, 2025). The car was inspected by AVEC staff on the returning day and all was fine (no accidents, no scratches, no damage etc) and I was refunded my full deposit few days later. However, 19 days after (24/01/2025) I returned the car, I received an SMS notification from my Turkish bank that my credit card was charged by AVEC 24317.07 Turkish Lira ($700USD with today's exchange rate). This was a total surprise to me. I called AVEC customer service inquiring about this charge and was told the charge was for the repair of the damage I caused to the radiator. This was a total surprise to me because AVEC never (before unknowingly I was charged the 24317.07 tl on 24/01/2025) mentioned to me the damage to the radiator. When AVEC customer service contacted the airport branch, the branch sent me photos of plastic cups filled of red color antifreeze liquid and photos of the top of the cooling system. They never explained how this claimed damage could have occured. I raised this very point with customer service whom she contacted them. Then the branch sent me a WhatsApp message stating that the damage was due to the fact that the underside of the car was hit hard and the impact damaged the air conditioning system. They NEVER sent me photos of the alleged damage to the underside of the car. AVEC airport branch sent me car repair workshop order. It shows that the car was sent to the repair workshop 10 days after i returned it. I would have expected AVEC to have contacted me the day the claimed damage was discovered (AVEC claimed the damage was discovered one day after I returned the car) and discussed this with me and better yet invite me to see the damage. Of course none of this happened. Instead they charged my credit card.

Deposit never refunded, 100% fraud

Rented a car at Cukurova airport and for my surprise Avec not just blocked the guarantee deposit as every other rental company, but CHARGED it. Nearly 2 months after returning the car the deposit is still not refunded and the company is ignoring all my emails. I see I'm not the only one with this problem, so I would say this is a 100% scam company and stealing money is their standard policy. Avoid.

Unlawful Charges and Complete Lack of Response I regret to say that my experience with AVEC CAR Rentals has been nothing short of appalling. After hiring a vehicle through their service on Oct. 24th, 2024 in Istanbul, the company unlawfully deducted amounts from my credit card without providing any valid reason or explanation. I attempted to contact their customer service multiple times, giving them ample opportunity to address the matter. Unfortunately, they have ignored every single one of my messages, showing a shocking lack of professionalism and accountability. As a paying customer, I trusted this company to act with integrity, but they have violated that trust in the worst way possible. Not only have I lost my money, but I’ve also wasted countless hours trying to resolve an issue they refuse to even acknowledge. I’m sharing my story here to warn others: think twice before booking with this company. If something goes wrong, don’t expect them to care or take responsibility. I hope this review spares someone else the frustration and financial loss I’ve endured.

Stay away from this company

Stay away from this company. You won't get the car you hired. The replacement car had issues. Paid almost a fortune for a month for a car that isn't worth the price either. When you fill in a complaint somewhere else and give them a bad review AVEC office is blocking your access to your account after they know who you are. No replies to your e-mails either. Won't do any business with them from now on. Fraud and childish.

Be cautious when renting from AVEC Rent a Car

I had a disappointing experience with this agency and want to warn others to be careful. While they take a credit card deposit during the rental, after returning the car, they started charging my card for unjustified amounts. For example, they charged me $60 for cleaning (which is far above standard rates in Istanbul) and double the actual cost for refueling even though I returned the car with 50% fuel. Many other agencies offer transparent policies, and some even accept cash deposits without issues. Unfortunately, this was not the case here. If you want to avoid unexpected charges and frustration, I strongly recommend choosing another rental agency. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

Fraudulent company - STAY AWAY

Fraudulent company. When i returned car they charged me extra 40 euros for car "cleaning", which i was un aware of. Funny that i had to sign return paper on Turkish language as nobody of 5 workers did not know any English. STAY AWAY

I hired a car from this company for 37 days at Cukurova Airport, Turkey. There were no problems at the counter or at car pick up and return. Car was clean and almost new. My deposit was returned 7 days after, with toll charges deducted. All was well. I would recommend this company for car hire.

Esperienza tremenda, agenzia di noleggio fake. Non hanno un’assistenza o meglio rispondono al telefono, ma non arrivano in soccorso. Ho avuto un sinistro per strada. Ho chiamato l’assistenza e ho dovuto cercare un hotel nelle vicinanze perché dopo ben 26 ore non sono ancora arrivati a recuperare l’auto. Rischio di perdere l’aereo chiederò i danni e vi consiglio di non scegliere questa agenzia mai.
