Argus Car Hire provided me with a good deal on a car rental, however, upon collection I received one of the worst experiences of my life. The car rental I ultimately booked with through them has one of the worst reputations around, despite this ArgusCarHire ranked them as a very good deal 9/10. I should have been vigilant and not trusted Argus at their word. This company will do everything it can to not take responsibility and help the situation, and will continue sell car rentals from dishonest, illegal dealerships. Definitely avoid this company. Below is my experience from Surprice Car Rental which I booked through ArgusCarHire: Surprice Car Rental in Pisa is an absolute disgrace. When I arrived to collect my pre-booked car, the staff refused to give me the vehicle unless I paid €719 for their overpriced excess insurance. Despite my separate existing excess protection insurance, and a prior agreement that I would only need to put down a €1200 deposit. They blatantly pressured me into purchasing insurance I didn’t need, holding my rental car hostage until I complied. I either had to throw away a £400 pre-booked rental car, or pay for this excess insurance I did not need. They made up excuses to do with my age that are not in the terms and conditions. The staff were appalling—rude, evasive, and outright deceitful. They refused to give their names, denied me any access to a supervisor, and refused to provide a written explanation for this extortion. Their underhanded tactics were designed to intimidate and squeeze as much money as possible from customers, with zero accountability or professionalism. I have reported this incident to the European Consumer Centre (ECC) and will be pursuing legal action in court. Surprice’s predatory practices and shameless disregard for agreements make them a company that should be avoided at all costs. EDIT: As per Argus Car Rental's reply to my review, they claim that because there is only the signed contracts, that is all they can go off of. I have audio recording of the interaction and can prove I was forced into purchasing this insurance product. I am confident Argus Car Hire will not try to remedy the situation, and will claim there is nothing they can do. As previously stated in my review, I have reported this to the ECC. Further, If you search for Surprice Car Rental there are hundreds of reviews that will report the same thing. Despite Surprice's atrocious reputation, Argus Car Hire continues to do business with them and in so doing so puts their customer's at risk of being coerced into insurance they do not need. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.

Za pośrednictwem Argus wynająłem auto od Budged. Budged naliczył mi opłatę za paliwo mimo, że oddałem pełny. Argus nie poradził sobie z reklamacją. Obsługa Budged przy oddawaniu auta nie zgłosiła żadnych uwag ani nieprawidłowośći. Uważajcie na takie drobiazgi. Niech Wam podpiszą papier ze zdania auta bo ja nic nie dostałem a obciążenie przyszło za kilka dni. Nie wiem jak to nazwać.

I had a terrible experience with car hire yesterday, I arrive to pick up my car on time and the provider wouldn't accept Australian debit/credit master card from Commonwealth Bank--the same card we use all the time and that the booking was made on! I asked the provider to cancel the booking (while standing at the desk) they said they can't and it needs to be online. I then login to my account and end up in a loop between 'how to cancel/manage booking' and no option to cancel. Seriously stressful. I had walked to the pick-up location while my husband and 4 year old waited at hotel, so I needed to keep moving. I then walk to the car hire next door and hire a car with the SAME CARD. That they wouldn't accept. Around an hour after my booking time I get a hold of the Argus customer centre, and guess what? They can't cancel the booking! So I have no car, payment of $700 has been taken and no human can cancel a booking... Of course happy to pay and admin fee or a day hire, things go wrong, that's par for the course when travelling. But this is next level. The reference to the T&C's is not a catch all under Australian Consumer Law ACL, which specifically covers the prevention of 'misleading and deceptive conduct.

The trip was ruined due to the ArgusCarHire policy!!! We had three hours delay due to the flight. When we came to take the car, we were told by the rental company (Europcar) that the vehicle was given to someone else, and there is no other vehicles for rent. We asked for a refound but they told us Speak with ArgusCarHire where we made the reservation. We called ArgusCarHire and they told us that because we didn't show on time to take the car, We are not eligible to any refund and we lost all the rental money that we paid for 10 days!!! No penalty, no "one day charge" like in hotel, All the money gone!!! We only thought what would happen if we ordered a car for two months...
Vast choice of cars to choose from. Like the loyalty discount. Can usually find a reasonably priced car with the rental company I like (Sicily By Car) been using Argus Car Hire for years and it never disappoints.

Everything was perfect. The staff in Marrakesh and agadir was very nice! Our car was good and there were no complications with the drop-off although we had to return during the night. We would book it again. Thank you.
Absolute Katastrophe. Nur weil der eingetragen Fahrer keine Kreditkarte hat kommen zusätzlich Kosten (420€) hinzu die knapp doppelt so hoch sind wie die eigene Kosten (230€). Auch überhaupt kein Entgegenkommen oder Flexibilität einen anderen Fahrer einzutragen. Absolut NICHT empfehlenswert
