Amber electric have upped my usage charge by 3 times my original costing. Doubling my previous bill. I work full time hardly home with 2 people in the house. When asked why it is so high. They said I used more that month. Not double the amount. I will not use them again it recommend them.

The best electricity retailer I have had for 20 years

This is a great company if you use lots of electricity. They give you warnings when the price is expensive so you can cut back your usage.The rest of the day your power is less then half the price of other power companies.As they price power on how much the are charged,not what they can get away with like other companies.They also send you details in the beginning of each season on their maximum charge related to peak pricing.They also have an app that shows how much power you are using at anytime and how much solar is going back into the grid. When you have any questions they get back to you quickly. Amber is the best electricity supplier I have had in the last 20 years.

Outstanding product

Outstanding product. We get our electricity at cheaper price and best of all get great export prices. Customer service has been amazing, explaining each questions answer clearly with the assistance to talk us through what we needed to do. Well done guys

A breath of fresh air

A breath of fresh air, with a company that is allowing solar and battery installers to be rewarded for their investment. Other companies, have reduced solar input to 3 cents per kw, an insult. Looking forward to a mutually rewarding experience, where we are rewarded for our investment.

It's not 0.1% of the time....

Price spikes. I get that you are beholden to the actual electricity producers. Something very fishy is going on with the amount of (deliberate lack of) supply they are providing and you have to pass on the results of that. But stop advertising something you know is no longer true. Price spikes are currently HUNDREDS of times more frequent than you are telling people. This is not an exaggeration. Your supply connection charge is more than a dollar a day - more than AGL here in Queensland and you then go on to charge a further $15 a month for something else. The app is not responsive enough. I should see changes in price within one or two seconds at the change of each 1/2 hour. This doesn't happen. I could be under the impression that the price is 20c/kwh when its actually $18.00 or more. That can make a massive difference over 5 minutes. Especially when trying to 'pre-heat' the house before a price spike is due to arrive. You have charged me nearly $60 for one day last week but your app doesn't show me where or how this happened because you logarithmic scale the pricing so I can't see what you actually charged me for a given 1/2 hour verses the screenshots I keep of the prices you claim to be charging. If you are going to base your point of difference around this wholesale pricing model you need to provide actual live pricing on the app. Real time. Live. Just like share trading platforms. I'll wait for the June refund but that's more than likely the time I'll end this experiment and go back to the stability of 25c a kwh with AGL.

Love Amber! Everyone should use it.

I just love being able to work out how and when to use electricity for the benefit of the grid, and as an added bonus getting dramatically lower energy bills. I bought an electric car and switched to Amber and my power bills have gone DOWN!

Just bad!

My experience was negative, very negative. I started off a year ago thinking this would be great but there a few systemic problems. It’s amazing to see all the positive reviews in the last twenty four hours, one can not help but wonder! None the less here we go. 1. The billing is problematic. The billing cycle is meant to be monthly but in my experience there were times when no bill materialised at all. Querying this resulted in the folks at amber taking a defensive position indicating it was my metre but ironically all the data flowed flawlessly for all billing cycles... 2. The billing is anything but transparent - it is difficult to decipher the bill at the best of times. I find it amazing how folks can say it’s transparent when the billing again in my view does not really line up with that.. 3. The app is a good start but there are issues with it. No historical context beyond 30 days, no ability to extract data unless you use the API, no ability to see past bills. Then there are shortcomings around notifications and other bits and pieces. If you look at the completion eg the origin app there is much more longitudinal view taken. 4. Notification of spikes is just in time at the best although it depends on your definition. It seems Amber takes a view which may not align to many. Routinely I would get notifications as we were in the spike. 5. Support is appalling, call unanswered, emails on occasion take days. The list goes on. 6. I just did not like the variability in pricing. It’s clear winter and summer are problems with significant spikes. That makes perfect sense but I am dubious of the claim it only happens 1% of the time as advertised on the site. Overall not a good provider on numerous levels. It seems to me they rushed to market without the supporting structures to make it work. An emphasis on tech is great but it has to add utility and for me at least it does not hit the mark at all. I won’t be coming back!

I think it'd be good if amber also had…

I think it'd be good if amber also had a fixed rate plan that you could opt into, as winter and summer wholesale pricing can be scary.
