Review summary
48 Mobile has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and great value, though some mention concerns about customer service and expensive.
The worst operator I've ever used. The internet is absolutely unstable. The speed is 0.2mb/s and this is 4g coverage? According to diagnostics, it feels like they're "scattering" it across different servers, like some kind of parasite. Ping is crazy. +- normal internet only at night. I don't recommend it
False Advertising Buyer Beware.
You have to purchase a plan by contract before you get your free month and then you have very little data as they say it's a FAIR USAGE POLICY.
Absolutely A Disgrace.
It Looks like a great deal but it's not.
Beware.
Absolutely terrible. Indescribably useless. Data rarely ever works, and if it does, it’s 3g. There is no roaming despite what they say. I’ve tried everything and even got in contact with 48 to fix the issue and still nothing works. On top of that, you are not able to call non Irish numbers. UK, Spain, America etc. Complete joke. I don’t understand how something can be so useless. I am not usually the type to leave reviews and complain about things, but holy god 48 is terrible. The price is good, but the quality of services needs a serious overhaul.
Changed from 3 to 48 which are run by the same network. Roaming is not good you have to be very tech savvy to get it to work by changing all different settings and then when u get home change them back. Sorry I changed over it was worth the extra €7 a month I was paying on 3. Also loads of other problems with them. Nothing is easy to do, can’t share your data unless you do stuff in settings and then it doesn’t work. When you try to do stuff which would have been automatic with my last provider it’s like jumping through hoops with 48 and you still get nowhere. Not worth the savings, avoid!!!
Trying to top up my phone with my card the past 3 months constantly onto them about they keep saying they'll sort it but never do have to keep trying different browers different phones and then had to try another persons credit card that i dont like to ask another person to use there card anyway its still not sorted was in the uk with my 11 year old daughter and we got stranded i couldn't order a taxi because the coverage is none existing in another country plus in when im in my own country the coverage keeps dropping dont join this joke of a company the tech support is a joke they'll keep you on the bot chat every time for well over an hour and i guarantee to you they wont sort the problem avoid this kip
I've been using 48 for several years and it is a great service. Only issue is having to pay by credit card when I would prefer to pay by direct debit. I have all calls, texts and data
If could give minus 10 stars, I would!!
No coverage in rural south Donegal..even though my I'd UK sim from the UK works fine on same phone!! Supposedly 48ie uses the same three platform!? As far as it's in-house advice..haha! Also hung on for an hour on it's telephone complain line, and never got through..eventually got cut off! Bought 2 x €12.99 sims and an initial connect fee and still waiting for signals!! Why do I only get problems when visiting the Rep of Ireland!? Go all over the planet regularly with no sim card problems. Pathetic! My advice..avoid!!!
Problem with the sim card. Once that was working a problem with paying for the plan. I was asked to use multiple cards to try to make it work, to top up the phone outside of the plan (which I did not do) and had to use multiple browsers in multiple devices with no result at the end of all that. Atrocious and I should have taken the first warning sign when the sim didn't work.
My membership ran out and when I purchased a new 10.99 membership, money has been deducted from my account but membership has not been renewed, I tried a different card but same thing, I spoke with an agent they told me to buy the membership as a gift, tried that, money has been deducted from my account but no membership, I spoke with another agent, who told me to buy the credit as a gift but with a different card, tried it but same thing happened.
I have been charged 10.99€ 4 times!!!
Still no membership!!
Agent said the money will be refunded to my accounts but haven’t received any refund, absolutely terrible
It works great around Ireland, I rarely had any issues, the odd time the data was slow but other than that no issues.
The issue is when travelling anywhere outside of Ireland, even the UK you have zero network and zero internet, although you technically have data it won't connect to a single app or internet so I had to change. I got a better deal with Eir for €9.99 unlimited calls, text and data as I have my TV & Broadband with them
Grand if you don't own a passport, never want to visit Northern Ireland and no nobody with a foreign phone number
I'm in Belfast. My mobile data wasn't working initially when I crossed the border then worked for wee while, then stopped soon after. Maybe because I moved location. I just spent the last hour and a bit editing file settings called APNs and now it's working again...but for how long?
Before joining 48.ie, I've probably visited 50 countries around the world using an Irish SIM and rarely had any issues with roaming, and certainly nothing that required me to spend more than 2 minutes checking things such as my phone was set to allow roaming data. I've used local SIM cards on 5 continents and none of them required this level of technical tinkering to access mobile data. For example, at one point while entering APN settings, I accidentally typed 48 internet, instead of 48 Internet on one of the many lines of APN file settings, which of course caused it to fail. When you're asked to manually enter file settings such as, for example, MMSC - http://mmc1/servlets/MMS, the chance of an upper versus lowercase typo is high.
Luckily I had screenshotted the roaming trouble shooting guide for 48.ie while in Dublin, because a colleague who uses 48 had warned me that it was not a seamless experience.
Come on 48, you are subsidiary of three.ie, which I was a customer of for nearly 20 years and never had any issues roaming in Europe, why are you making roaming so difficult?
