Review summary
48 Mobile has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and great value, though some mention concerns about customer service and expensive.
The worst operator I've ever used. The internet is absolutely unstable. The speed is 0.2mb/s and this is 4g coverage? According to diagnostics, it feels like they're "scattering" it across different servers, like some kind of parasite. Ping is crazy. +- normal internet only at night. I don't recommend it
False Advertising Buyer Beware.
You have to purchase a plan by contract before you get your free month and then you have very little data as they say it's a FAIR USAGE POLICY.
Absolutely A Disgrace.
It Looks like a great deal but it's not.
Beware.
Absolutely terrible. Indescribably useless. Data rarely ever works, and if it does, it’s 3g. There is no roaming despite what they say. I’ve tried everything and even got in contact with 48 to fix the issue and still nothing works. On top of that, you are not able to call non Irish numbers. UK, Spain, America etc. Complete joke. I don’t understand how something can be so useless. I am not usually the type to leave reviews and complain about things, but holy god 48 is terrible. The price is good, but the quality of services needs a serious overhaul.
payments service totally useless took 3 days to sort problem in the meantime my mother died in usa had no way of contacting family over there as no internet and cant afford expensive long distance phone calls which they do not allow u less you buy credit which I couldn't because their payment thing messed up 3 days in a row blamed me claiming I tried too many times first time I have heard that one
Do not buy.
Speed of internet even in super central locations is very low. Central Dublin average is 5-7mbs even they promise you 4G and everything "unlimited" 😁
DO NOT BUY THIS TRASH 😄
I will be moving back to LYCAMOBILE. You have a prepaid year for a 110eur. Much better quality internet as I tested.
Regards
I HAD 48 for years, but I'm moving to another network.
I had 48 for years. I was so happy with it, I got my kids the SIMs. I could use it abroad, it buffered a bit, but didn't really bother me too much. Then 48 sent a message, that they were issuing new improved SIMs especially for roaming. So I got these new SIMs. But now I have NO coverage and can barely, connect to the local wifi when abroad.
On another note, I had credit on my account from the refer a friend deal, which I hadn't used. It was just over €22, my bill was 10.99. But there was no option to use the credit, without turning off my auto renew. So even though I was within my top up time frame, because I turned off my auto renew they charged me the higher price. SO ITS NOT A PRICE FOR LIFE. When I contacted them they just said once you pay the higher price you can't go back. Despite still being within my renewal time period! And there was no warning that I was getting charged the higher price it just came off my credit when I hit use credit to pay my membership! Originally, I had tried to pay from my bank account, the money went out of my account to 48, but it was not used for membership nor is it in my credit balance. It's just gone to 48!
As I said I was with this company for years but I'd rather pay for a better service. Their web chat is very slow (I was waiting over an hour just to get beyond a bot!) and the agent had a bit of a 'shudda cudda wudda' attitude.
I find even in Ireland the coverage with 48 has got weaker. I'm in Navan, in general, there is usually good connection here, not with 48 anymore. So I'm changing network!
I hope this helps when you are deciding which network to choose.
edited review? --- SHOUT OUT MANSIH solved all my problems!!, THE REAL 48 PLAYA, KEEPS IT REAL, NICE GUY, LOVING 48 EMPLOYEE, HAS A FUNNY YET CORDIAL SIDE TO HIM, PROMOTE MANISH, PAY RISE MANISH, MANISH, MANISH MANSIHS
The only good thing about this network is that is 12.99 for a month with free calls and text within the Ireland. But, Internet connection is bad and when I went to holidays in Spain, no roaming data. Spoke with an agent, he gave me instructions and nothing got fixed. Not happy at all, as soon as I am back to Ireland, I am switching to other network!
Do not expect roaming, customer service or a hotspot with 48. Go with Three instead.
I have had issues with my hotspot since I joined 48 back in march, I was not to bothered until I need to hotspot to my family and my laptop for college. Contacted them and changing the APN settings worked once. Contacted again and got referred to Apple. Apple with excellent customer service ran diagnostic and discovered it was a carrier issue.
I went back to 48 and they kept pawning me off with usual tactics, restart the phone I am contacting them on and promising you won't get cut off and getting cut off. I eventually got through to an agent who only seemed like he wanted to help me after I mentioned an escalation and he pawned me off again referring me to Apple again. It is a CARRIER ISSUE not a device issue.
UK roaming also does not work, I reccomend a £20 top up for a pay as you go SIM card from Three instead of trying to use this companies rubbish roaming.
Nothing but grief from this company and will be requesting a PAC code as soon as I can.
[Edit] I have switched to Three which is their parent company and my hotspot issue is instantly resolved, paying the extra money is worth it.
Was with 48.ie for 2 years. This service works perfect and is ideal for anybody that doesn't leave Ireland. The data never worked in any country i travelled to in Europe no matter how many times i made contact with 48.ie or checked all the forums. i mean i tried everything APN but nothing. You pay for a certain amount of data within the EU but forget about it with this company. i had to leave after my last trip aboard its too frustrating
