Tech support failure

I have been using iDrive for several years to backup our desktop and laptop PC. I have generally been quite happy with the product until now. Seven weeks ago iDrive started failing during online backup of one particular 256MB file. After many interactions with support they referred it to their "backend team". There has been no progress and not a word. I ping them every week and get the same response. I've had to resort to a local backup which I then copy to Google Drive. I will note that this is about 20X faster than IDrive online backup.

So far I am happy with iDrive.

I have only begun using iDrive. I have used other backup systems which seemed confusing to me so that I was never sure I was doing it correctly. So far, I like iDrive because it has a user-friendly interface for someone not really computer-savvy. I can back up to my external hard drive as well as the cloud, both backups can be accessed readily. I can backup on demand or on a pre-selected schedule. I have not yet tried the restore function. I have not yet made a mirror image of my computer, but to back up all my personal data took about 3 hours. Incremental backups take a few minutes. So far I am happy and have recommended iDrive to two people in my life.

Great Introductory Offer & User Friendly…

I got a great introductory offer and the software is more user friendly than the Acronis package I replaced it with. Understandably, the first full backup took a long time. But the second was completed in just five minutes as only amended or new files were needed.

They Canceled my account without notifying me

Searched for a cloud backup solution…

Searched for a cloud backup solution that has native support for my NAS. Finally found idrive, which was cheaper than my previous cloud backup provider. The backup speed is kinda fast - fully saturated my 100mbps uplink and uploaded 5TB in less than one week! So overall is a good product but the speed could be better

No access on my data for more than a month

I was a user for 2+ years. I was attracted from their low price and I renewed twice, as I find the rest of the popular services over-priced. The main issue was the low speed, but tolerable for this price. Over this period I had some login issues from time to time, but after few hours they were getting resolved, without even to make complain. Although, in August it was the last drop. I could not login from none of my connected devices for more than a month. So for A MONTH I was not able to access ANY of my data. All my digital asset, personal and professional, was stored there. I asked for a link at least so I could get my data downloaded and they said it was not possible. After the exchange of many emails and over 30 days, the data appeared again. I downloaded them all and got my self subscription to one of the other popular ,but more expensive, services. All this stress did not worth the price difference.

Initially when I first installed…

Initially when I first installed iDrive, it worked great. So I installed it on all my work PCs. I needed something that will enable me to upload project files into the cloud, and be able to access it across multiple PCs right away. Things worked so good I signed up for their annual service. Shortly after that it went downhill. Small .txt files would take AGES for other PCs to see it in the "cloud" folder. But the WORST thing of all is the constant intrusive popup in the lower right (iDrive notifications). I have unclicked every notification possible, yet it still does it multiple times a day, every day. I don't recommend this service as a DropBXX or SyXX etc alternative. Too unreliable. If used for overnight backups it'll probably be great minus the constant notification popups. UPDATE 11/18/22 : Okay last few days, speed has been fast again. No changes on my PCs and my internet is Fiber Optics 1gb Up/Down so I know it isn't my end. So I've changed review from 2 to 3 stars. Hopefully performance will stay like this. Now, iDrive if you are listening, please FIX notifications. Make it so the option to turn it off WORKS, and also "click to never show again" too because currently ticking that and closing the notification, it still comes back!

Not perfect, but gets some important things right

Initially I was frustrated by the slow upload speeds when I did my first backup. A few hundred GB took a few days. But, from what I have read, the competition are no better, except perhaps for some very expensive services. The big question is whether the company that you entrust with your backups is actually storing the backup, and not just scamming you until you find one day that you need to restore a backup that doesn't exist. There are certainly many scammers out there, some promoted by "reputable" news sources, such as PC Mag. In this regard, what has given me a bit of confidence is my recent experience of technical support. My iDrive Cloud Storage (a different service to the backup service, but one which comes bundled with it) had started deleting new files created in my cloud storage folder on my Mac. Even though iDrive support had to cancel two appointments for remote access to my computer, something that didn't make a good impression, at the third appointment the technician spent a good deal of time fixing my iDrive installation. This is the kind of high-quality technical support that you will get from Apple, but not from Microsoft. This kind of high-quality support is certainly not what I would expect from a scammer. Therefore I will stick with iDrive for the foreseeable future.

They reel you in with cheap offer then they wack up the price

I initially signed up to the offer of 2TB of data storage for around $79.00 a year. I felt the price was reasonnable and competitibve compared to other providers. And they also offered a script that can backup linux OS'es. After the 12 months they wanted more than $700 for the renewal. I respectfully declined and cancelled the "offer". I find this to be quite cheeky, as they entice you with attractive costs, you use the service and they prey on the fact that you have 2TB of data that took days or even weeks to upload trying to bank on this fact and that you may well carry on. Sorry guys, I find this really really bad business, but hey, why not? just leave me out! Apart from that the service is good, Although I found a better one: get 2 6TB hard drive, one on the machine, one in a external enclosure, backup on the internal one and mirror it on the external every now and then, this way even if your machine gets "accidentally" damaged or "encrypted" there is a recourse, and it is usually way faster and more reliable than ANY "stupid cloud snooped by US gov service" nuf said!

Great Support - thanks Adam

I needed help reactivating my account after coming back and Adam of iDrive support was fantastic. Super understanding, patient, friendly, and extremely knowledgeable. He chatted with me and then followed up with emails more than once and also called me more than once to keep me posted and to make sure everything went smoothly. He is the best support person I have interacted with in three decades. Many thanks.

Very good cloud storage provider

I'm using idrive since 2018. I have a lifetime mobile subscription and I'm very happy. Upload and download speeds are quite good. There is a continus développement and improvement of their apps. I use several cloud storage providers but this one is my favorite for my mobile (and desktop also -coupled with another favorite app) as I can use it on all of my devices/OS (andoid, linux windows)! I never had a problem with my data. They have high security infrastructures and our files are encrypted by default. The private key option is a huge advantage against other providers that is not free or inexistent. I recommend this provider for its reliability, features, performances and its good security level.

Passed my test with the amazing instructor Abdul from iDrive, he helped me build my confidence and supported me throughout all my lessons. Best instructor I’ve had.

Great value for money. Bad Mobile app!

Good things: Great value for money in terms of space. the desktop app is little otdayted visualy but functional ok. Great for backup. Bad things/need imporvement: The Adnroid App is almost unusable. I have 1TB sdcard with around 25000 photos and videos which I backup. The application hangs every time when trying to backup new files, probably because of the nuber of files and it checks which is new. I have to wait 15 minutes and choose several time s wait on the promt if android to close the app siunce it is unresposive. May be it was not tested with such amount of files ... but it is unresposive.

Good product and services, but awful human element and technical support

I need to explain why I gave just 1 star to iDrive. The service itself, I mean, the "product", the cloud backup services oferred by iDrive, are excellent. But, unfortunately, one of the main elements when it comes to IT services and solutions are missing here: the human element. iDrive technical support is not only bad. It's awful. Very, very, very bad. Most of the time it seems we are talking to robots and its canned responses, and not to human beings. The "technicians" don't even says his names. We never know whom is talking to us. They seems to consider us, customers, just like mere numbers in his database. The "technicians" helps us, but most of the time only after 1 or 2 days has been passed from the moment we did open the ticket. So they start talking to us, but it seems they don´t know we are customers. The way they treat us is bad. Awful! No education, no kindness, no "friendship" at iDrive - not even the minimum necessary to our daily lives. At their chat the same happens, and we're treated like, well, I don't know exactly, but it seems they think they are doing a favor to us. Very bad technical support. If you think you will find human beings working at iDrive you're fooled. No humans here, no kind people here, no helpful guys here. I am starting to research in order to move away from iDrive to another cloud backup provider. Despite the product be excellent, the human factor, the technical support - well, there's no such thing at iDrive.
