Tech support failure

I have been using iDrive for several years to backup our desktop and laptop PC. I have generally been quite happy with the product until now. Seven weeks ago iDrive started failing during online backup of one particular 256MB file. After many interactions with support they referred it to their "backend team". There has been no progress and not a word. I ping them every week and get the same response. I've had to resort to a local backup which I then copy to Google Drive. I will note that this is about 20X faster than IDrive online backup.

So far I am happy with iDrive.

I have only begun using iDrive. I have used other backup systems which seemed confusing to me so that I was never sure I was doing it correctly. So far, I like iDrive because it has a user-friendly interface for someone not really computer-savvy. I can back up to my external hard drive as well as the cloud, both backups can be accessed readily. I can backup on demand or on a pre-selected schedule. I have not yet tried the restore function. I have not yet made a mirror image of my computer, but to back up all my personal data took about 3 hours. Incremental backups take a few minutes. So far I am happy and have recommended iDrive to two people in my life.

Great Introductory Offer & User Friendly…

I got a great introductory offer and the software is more user friendly than the Acronis package I replaced it with. Understandably, the first full backup took a long time. But the second was completed in just five minutes as only amended or new files were needed.

I switched from Dropbox to iDrive - iDrive Cancelled

I gave iDrive a try after trying to work around bugs in Dropbox's external drive back features for 3 days. IDrive worked flawlessly for my purposes (online photo backup). The bonus is that iDrive is also a small fraction of the cost of Dropbox. Win Win! Updated 1/23/2023 - Unfortunately, I found that iDrive is unable to fully backup external drives, Random files fail to backup. I worked with support for a full month and received no solution. I'm be back on the hunt for a cloud backup solution that works.

A great cloud backup option

A great cloud backup option. Very easy to sign up and to install the backup software on Windows and Mac. User interface is straight forward. Great value for money. Only downside is upload speed can be a bit slow for the initial full backup. Overall, a great option for multi computer cloud backup

So far so good!

Based on my two weeks of using IDrive, sounds like your typical cloud backup system. The thing that made me go with them is their price, which is slightly cheaper than the others and YouTube reviews saying that they are one of the better online backup companies out there. GUI and general system is very straightforward, so is easy to use. Thank you!

iDrive has saved my elderly parents data many times

I have been using iDrive for years on my Mac and PC. Rarely have I needed a file restored but it has saved me a few times from starting a project over again. I also used iDrive to backup my elderly parents PC while they were alive. Several times they deleted files important to them and I was able to remotely (I live far away from them) restore them and save the day!

Service does its job

Service does its job. Plus it is able to backup desktops as well as mobile devices which is a great benefit. There’re some disadvantages like quite inconvenient and not quite responsive web/desktop UI, but considering the price I am okay with these. UI doesn’t matter much if the only thing you need is to schedule the backups and check them once in a while.

IDrive (Compute) has a flawed process…

IDrive (Compute) has a flawed process on 'abuse' claims, which can heavily cost your business. I have a SaaS company and purchase VPS from different cloud providers to host our services globally. I just had a Black Friday weekend sales running and have noticed on Saturday morning that all six servers in LA and Miami have been suspended, which has heavily affected our sales. I created a support ticket and tried to escalate it via chat support. The chat support said they couldn't do anything, since another team is handling technical support. It took them 7 hours to come back to us. They told me the reason they had to suspend the entire account was that somebody raised an abuse claim against one (!) of the servers. Other professional cloud providers like Hetzner or ShockHosting would pass on the claim to the customer and give them 24-48 hours to explain themselves. But IDrive takes the law into their own hands and suspend all servers at once without any communication. At the very least they should suspend the affected server and not the entire account. Imagine you build your entire business on their cloud and a competitor raises an abuse against you, without any further enquiry they suspend your entire infrastructure. I complained about this by email and didn't hear back from them for another 15 hours because they are clearly understaffed on weekends. And the best part is they finally replied: "We have resumed all VMs except the one with the abuse claim." In other words, we still can't access the affected server to check the logs to see what has happened. They have no understanding how the abuse process should work and play judge, jury and executioner. This has badly hurt our business in this Black Friday sales weekend, and we started migrating all the servers to a different cloud provider. In all fairness, they had so much decency to refund all the servers after this incident, since I had already paid one year in advance. Overall: + Reasonable cost + Fairly fast servers + Nice dashboard and UX, but sometimes servers get stuck when restarted and you need to raise a ticket. - Incorrect process on abuse claims, leading to suspension of all servers instead of the affected one. - Technical support has very slow response times - No weekend support if something happens on weekends or holidays, you must wait a long time before hearing back from them.

Unreliable!

This place is simply unreliable. It cannot be trusted. It suddenly stops performing daily, scheduled backups. No notice, no error messages, no nothing. This has happened on multiple occasions before, most recently on exactly November 1, 2022 when it failed to back up, and never since. I only noticed because after a few days I realized I was not receiving the successful backup emails. I have gone in circles with their tech support. No explanation. Today they told me to update the pc app (a very minor update) and now it will not even let me log into my account. Further, they said I would have to "reschedule" the backups. This place is NOT reliable and too flaky to trust with something as important as backups. Update 26 July 2023: I had contacted their technical support a number of times and followed their instructions. The backup would work for a day or two and then stop. Sometimes I would get a "Failed" email, most of the time not. Customers who would forget to check would miss NOT having their backups made. BUT ... there's more. Two days ago I received an email that their free backup service which had a very modest amount of space is being DISCONTINUED. Only paid subscriptions. No loss for me as I had given up on them. Still Unreliable!

I'm really happy with the idrive had it for over 2 months now and I've had zero issues with it, and looking around for cloud storage idrive must be the cheapest option on the net
