Harbour Hotels has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and quality, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.
We had our event on the 26th June in Harbour hotel Guildford. Our yearly summer BBQ. Had about 50 attendees outside the patio bit after our CPD talk. If I remember, it was Emily and Amy that served us through the whole night. Amazing young women who we are ever so grateful with every request for the night they tend to. The night couldn’t have gone any smoother without them. Such polite and great people/customer skills they have. Thank you ever so much!
Not a great welcome back from Harbour Hotel Brighton. It is a big let down from the Harbour hotel to send a discount code to welcome back a customer who has stayed at the hotel previously and cannot use the code to book a night at the hotel with the discount code. Not only that there is no option when booking to apply a discount code. I will look for somewhere else to stay and i was booking direct with the hotel and booked direct last time. Lost a customer as a result.
Harbour Spa Southampton. Paid £125 for 1 hour all over body massage and was not impressed. Time of treatment moved forward which messed up other plans. Massage was done in 40 minutes. Cold room. No heated beds. Therapist had long nails which dug in. Claim to use Elemis products yet the ones out for use were not Elemis. Very painful massage and fronts of legs and décolletage completely missed. Never again.
Arranged a birthday celebration dinner several months in advance for 35 people with Sophie Caddock who was very helpful and friendly. The venue, food and waiting staff were excellent, everyone had a great time on what was a very special occasion! Many thanks Sophie and team!
We stayed at the christchurch harbour for my 60th birthday. The room was beautiful, the staff very welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The spa facilities were excellent, and we had a wonderful meal in the Upper deck restaurant. Thankyou for making my birthday so special. We will be back.
We stayed for 4 nights. Decided to drive down from Kent to see a friend, and instead of rushing back stayed. Good impressions: The whole hotel is comfortable enough although you almost need a step ladder to get into bed.Service at breakfasts were outstanding especially at weekends when they were so busy. This was handled easily with a range of good quality food and service. The whole experience was reduced by what appeared to be lack of communication. They knew we were here for 4 nights, however the safe didn’t work at first nor the coffee machine and one would think this would be checked. We were due some complimentary drinks apparently but this was confused.
on site restaurant Harbour hotel Brighton have stayed in the hotel on previous occasions and has been fine. This review is just about the restaurant.
We didn't book a pre show meal , we had stayed at the hotel before so took a chance. They kindly fitted us in first in a bar seating area , then when we asked again , at a table but only for 1Hr 15 mins but that was fine. We only wanted 1 course and we had time limitations ourselves. My partner is pescatarian so the choice was limited but she settled on the Fish and Chips , I had a burger. Both seemed pricey but not extortionate for Brighton and our own fault for not pre booking somewhere. When the food arrived my partners battered fish was liberally covered in sea salt? Which to her palette rendered it uneatable. She persevered by taking the batter off but it was ruined. The chef by chance was doing the rounds and we informed him about the fish. he did to his credit offer to cook us another piece of fish, but we had no time for this, and no one wants to eat alone. So we declined but did say, an explanation in the menu or from the servers maybe would be an advantage. A lot of people like to season their own food. The main server then came to clear our plates he saw my partners plate and asked if the meal was ok. We explained again and that's when the conversation took a turn for the worse. His attitude was not conciliary, we weren't asking for anything just making observations and suggestions. but he was trying to convince us not every ingredient could be listed , if we had a problem with added salt we should have said. it was an essential part of the meal , just like the oil for frying? Now we did want something, we wanted the cost of the meal taken off of the bill, he assured us there was nothing he could do, and we assured him there was but he was refusing to do so. The bill was paid in full and we left.
1) maybe in future let people season their own food, or if you insist on doing it make sure they know beforehand, even your local chippy has the curtesy to ask do you want salt and vinegar on that.
2) we know there is a staff shortage for everyone but if your new staff do make mistakes , don't let your customers suffer. We heard your senior server tell the waitress as we were leaving , to tell the customers in future about the salt on the fish, too little too late!
3) We also heard the senior server , tell the table next to us about the specials, one of which was a Fish pie. Our new inexperienced server did not tell us this. So we had to pay for your staffs lack of training.
4) we did not ask for the service charge to be removed as we felt as appalling as the senior servers service to your customers was, it was by no means the inexperienced servers fault.
The views were great, the staff were great and the cocktails were nice but the food was absolutely terrible! The crab and prawn linguine had no crab and three prawns and was try and tasteless! The beef cheek was just that and not a lot else - very dull. For what it was it was horrifically over priced. We were very disappointed.
We had afternoon tea for a special birthday at Harbour Hotel, Padstow - had a lovely afternoon, food was delicious, staff were really friendly and helpful and dining room had a lovely atmosphere, would definitely recommend, thank you to everyone
Stayed at the Southampton Harbour hotel the night before we cruised. It was exceptional. All the staff whether that be front of house, restaurant or spa were friendly and really helpful. dinner in the Jetty restaurant was great with a wide choice and value for money. Will definitely be back again!!
Emailed several times, wanting to book a lovely spa. Misinformed, telephoned & reprimanded, told I’m abusive, ( projection tactic ) told to book another hotel. Really awful customer service. Asked for complaints procedure, completely ignored. Horrendous headache now.
What’s your opinion on trial shifts for a new job? In this instance at the Harbour Hotel, Guildford my daughter was booked for a ‘trial’ shift to work as a waitress for a wedding for 3 hours (and was then requested an extra hour at the last minute which my daughter agreed to do).
She took a full and active role in providing a service (experienced in a chef restaurant) for the TRIAL. She bought a whole new outfit she was that committed. As a trial, it works two ways right? She decided it was not suitable to maximise on her skill set so said she appreciated the opportunity to trial but unless a higher grade role was coming up, it wasn’t a good fit for her at the moment. They didn’t offer to pay her despite her working for an event that they were charging for and she gave them an extra hour as they requested.
When she asked to be paid she was told that they would ‘check it out’
Since then no ‘checking out’ has been done and no follow up from my phone call to the deputy night manager Charlie. So if Nick Aristodemou the General Manager is reading this, please can we have a public explanation? It doesn’t appear to reflect the ‘higher standards your hotel purports to uphold and nor does it seem very fair?
Check out the law suit against Marco Polo White … restaurant sued over £10 trial session he refused to pay.
Is it really worth that publicity? To me it seems mean and unfair and I’m teaching my daughter to stand up to people that exploit others.
Comments from the Harbour hotel welcome 🙏 We have asked for a reply from harbour hotel and hopefully we will get one with persistent requests from as many channels we can find to simply uphold fair business practices 🙏
Absolutely exceptional, 5 Stars
Booked here for my partners 29th birthday and I was so impressed by the experience, I feel like they completely deserve this review and more. I explained that I needed this to be perfect as I work crazy hours and hardly get much quality time with my other half. We booked in for a 1:15pm couples massage, followed by spa facility use and then finishing with an afternoon tea. An afternoon of pampering and real relaxation. Through the entire experience, the staff were super attentive and understood the importance of the date.
The massage was incredibly relaxing. We booked the drift away 60 minute and it was heavenly. Multiple times I realised I was nearly off into the land of sleep, it was that relaxing. The two masseurs paid special attention to our requests on the request form. I’d highly recommend. Great experience as a couple.
Next spa facilities were tidy, clean and the staff were very polite. There was a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna for use as well as a relaxation room with tea/coffee for added chill out time. There were very nice gym facilities available also.
The absolute topper of the occasion was the afternoon tea. The attention to detail on the tray brought out really was a 5 star experience. The variety of flavours and the craftsmanship of the treats was impressive. The carrot cake was a mini edible plant pot, the cake as the soil, the cream as the topping and an edible sweet treat in the shape of a carrot on top. The flavour divine. That was JUST ONE of them, the rest all delicious. You’ll have to order it and experience it for yourself!
The staff were super attentive and making sure everything was good, we had unlimited tea, which was taken full advantage of. Then after we had finished there we went and enjoyed a coffee on the balcony which overlooks the Marina and it was the perfect way to end the evening.
Genuinely, can’t thank the team enough for making that day so special. Would definitely recommend.
Wow, Our meal at the harbour hotel beach club in salcombe was just outstanding, upon arriving we were greeted by kind, helpful staff. They stayed with us making us feel very welcome. I would highly recommend this place, beating the local competition by miles.
