Halfords Retail has room for improvement based on customer feedback. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and communication.
My break light fault alarm came on my dashboard. It's a difficult time at the moment and it was an extra problem I didn't need. I saw a Halford Shop and knew they did small jobs so went in to ask if they could change the bulb. They said yes and that it would take 15 mins. I came back 15 mins later and they advised me to change all 4 bulbs, two on each sides, as it was best. I took their advice. It took a further 5 mins. It came to £48.98. I thought it was a lot but presumed the bills bulbs were expensive. They offered me a free MOT (I use my trusted garage so declined) or to take my details and give me £5 off which I took. The bill would be emailed to me so I didn't get to see it there and then. When I saw the bill I couldn't believe the costs - the bulbs were £4.99 for two, so inexpensive ... their labour was £11 PER BULB changed!! No wonder they didn't just want to change the one broken bulb, but 3 more! I know I should have asked the costs and checked, but I didn't expect Halfords to completely take advantage. Won't be using them again!
We are two elderly ladies, one with a disability, and were in Galway having issues with our hire car, battery and tyres. A young employee called Conor was the MOST helpful, polite and efficient. I can’t tell you how relieved we were and thankful for his kind attention. Thanks Halfords and Conor
I made a complaint about halfords since June 20th 2025 and no one has contacted me like they promised...I bought a dashcam online and arranged for it to be installed via Halford in Catford .Unfortunately the dashcam wasn't compatible with the app and I decided I would like to change dashcam.I arranged an appointment to have the dashcam taken out of my car to be returned and planned to discuss an upgrade.A minute before I arrived my appt.i was told that I cannot return dashcam because it was used.At no point was I advised about this and the manager at catford refused to discuss with me.Ive made several phone calls to customer services who assured me that matter would be Investigated and someone will in touch...no one has..I'm still waiting...as far as I'm concerned Halford is the worst company to deal with when you want query or make a complaint. When they have your money they don't care
My case no. is Halfords Customer Services: 26479136 ...I've rang sent emails to no avail...this company is rotten to the core. I will be submitting notes everyday until something is sorted..I will not stop
I bought a Apollo slant about 3 years ago from the edge lane Liverpool Halfords on the ride to work system the person who sold me the bike told me while the bike was being built it’s a bit of a crap bike as it is one of the cheaper models 🤔 they have and was trying to dupe me into buying a seven hundred to a thousand pound bike so he’d get more commission 🤨 on the sale lucky I know sales tactics he also told me I wouldn’t go on any big rides because it was such a rubbish bike 😒 funny that as I ride most weekends the furthest I’ve been from Liverpool upto now on my cheap bike Delamere forest all round Chester and wales not bad for a crap bike 😃 anyway finally the back wheel started grinding as I know a bit of bike maintenance myself it turned out to be the ball bearings in the spindle so called Halfords to see if they have my wheel in stock and was told yes thought great stuff got to the Halfords on edge lane asked about the wheel got told oh no we don’t stock that we do for the expensive bikes but not yours then got told try Quinn’s down the road they sent me to the competitor also by the way they don’t do the wheel I need😞 so had to rely on Amazon to save the day got the wheel I needed fitted it I’m back on the road again 😁 how can a bike shop sell you a bike but not have the parts in stock to fix it ridiculous practice whatever happened to the customer is always right if I what an expensive bike I’ll buy one not get sales bullied into it Halfords you need to send your staff on a training course to learn not to bully customers into buying bike they don’t want or need also learn them to offer advice in a better manner I was very disappointed in the Halfords experience this much 😞🤨🧐😔☹️😟😕😠🤔
I am totally at a loss what to do next with this company, they have absolutely no idea how to run a company, which you cannot do without a competent customer service team supporting you. Halfords do not have anything like a competent customer service team working with them in fact they appear to be working against them !!
How they are still in business beggers belief, just by reading the countless negative reviews gives you a 100% reason not to use this company, and I truly regret having not read them first. I went with the idea that this company was what I thought of as an established company, and I wrongly believed them to be trustworthy . Hang your head in shame Halfords you have totally destroyed the good name that was once known throughout the country.
I will not bother going on through dates and promises I have received, I am done . I could spend all week relaying my experiences, but my stress levels are at breaking point and I see no reason to stretch them any further when the powers that be are just NOT INTERESTED.
Learn by my mistake DO NOT GO TO
HALFORDS!!!!
Items not delivered by specified time. Tried to use Halfords inquiry procedure to rectify but just sent in circles back to start point, very frustrating. Still not received items.
I bought a carrera impel 3.1 on line the next day I received a email saying it was at stage one of assembly within 2 minutes I had a frantic phone call from the manager at Cribbs causeway Halfords saying it wasn’t able to go ahead with the order I expressed my annoyance he couldn’t find a replacement
This is farcical from a company I’ve used on many occasions and never will again
I asked for my money to be returned immediately he said there’s a waiting process they were quick enough to take the payment
I would advise no one to use them or part with their hard earned cash
Me again still trying to get my generator sorted out WHAT A Joke HALFORDS CUSTOMER CARE what do they do what is there purpose all they do is lie to you
I mistakenly signed up to Halfords premium membership 4 years ago. Since then, i’ve never used it. £54 per year for nothing. So, it made sense to cancel it. And so began five weeks of emails, phone calls, online chats and many, many swear words. It became obvious very quickly that their cancellation process is specifically designed to stop you from leaving. It starts with an online request form of several pages. Then the automatic emails start. Then some customer service emails begging you to stay or demanding to know why you are leaving. Then you get “special offers” to entice you to stay.
More emails. Two more online chats. And then when you think you’ve left, they still take your money despite all this. So now you have to try and get a refund.
It is an absolute nightmare. My best advice is “don’t join in the first place”. Stay away from this rubbish, unless you enjoy a challenge. Now i have to wait 4 days to get my own money back that should never have been taken in the first place.
I bought a travel cot from Halfords online and they sent the wrong product. 2 weeks after receiving the wrong product I am left with nothing. I contacted them countless times via live chat, phone and email. Each time it took days to get a response as they wouldn't give me any information. They told me that they couldn't speak to the supplier and they just kept saying 'someone would be in touch'. Eventually they arranged for the incorrect item to be collected, for which I had to wait in all day as they couldn't give me a time slot. They said that the correct item would be dispatched as soon as I informed them of the collection, which I did straight away. 3 days later they email to tell me that the item is now out of stock and they are issuing a refund. I bought the cot with a gift card and so now I am stuck with a gift card for a company that I cannot trust and nothing else I want to buy. This mistake should have be simple to resolve but instead has created a great deal of stress. I am now left with very little time to source a travel cot from somewhere else. Hugely frustrating and such a waste of time. Any reputable retailer would have sent out the correct item straight away or at least held one for me once the incorrect one had been collected. I hope Halfords review their shocking customer service. I certainly will be avoiding them at all costs in the future.
I asked the counter staff where the Swarfega would be. He said Never heard of it give me a brand name 😡 I said Swarfega. Try the polish isle. I tried every isle then got it from Screwfix. A car parts shop that doesn’t know what Swarfega is. Really !!!
I’m extremely disappointed with both the service and build quality I received from Halfords after purchasing four bikes, all marketed as high-quality models at a premium price point. I even paid extra for Halfords’ build service, expecting a professional standard. What I got instead was a frustrating experience from start to finish, and unsafe bikes that clearly were not assembled by specialists.
I purchased the bikes on a Sunday, and was told they would be ready for collection by Wednesday. However, after making payment, the collection date was changed to Friday. I accepted the delay, but when I arrived on Friday, none of the bikes were ready. I called Halfords' main line and was informed the store manager would contact me but I never received a call.
I returned on Saturday, and again, the bikes still weren’t built. I finally went back on Sunday, assuming that with a full week and the bikes in stock, the build would be completed and of a good standard. Unfortunately, this was far from the case.
All four bikes were built poorly and inconsistently. There were loose nuts, crooked handlebars, improperly secured built-in stands, and reflectors fitted upside down or in the wrong place. To make matters worse, two of the bikes were identical models but were assembled differently.
After just one day, the brake pads on my toddler’s bike fell off. A week later, on another bike for my 5-year-old, the entire front brake mechanism, which had clearly been left loose, came off while riding downhill, causing her to lose control & crash into bramble bushes. It was frightening, dangerous, and completely avoidable.
This experience has shown that Halfords staff are not bike specialists. These are general retail employees being tasked with assembling bikes, including children's bikes where safety is critical. As the saying goes, jack of all trades, master of none.
For anyone considering buying a bike from Halfords, especially for children, I strongly recommend going to a dedicated bike shop where bikes are built by trained professionals who take care and responsibility for their work. I won’t be returning.
I was hoping to buy some roof rails and a roof box from Halfords. When I tried to order online, I got conflicting information about the full kit not being available although the individual components were. Not a big deal. But then I made the mistake of calling the customer service number for advice. They immediately asked me for my personal information without knowing the nature of my enquiry, which I object to. I explained the situation and asked for the phone number of my local Halfords store so I could get accurate information of which parts they had in stock. I was told that the stores don't have phones. The customer service then put me on hold while tried to contact the store, and came back a couple of minutes later having failed to do so. The default response for any retail enquiry seems to be "you'll need to go to the store and ask them". Seriously, it's 2025. In the end I decided to make my purchase of around £900 from another retailer.
I sent you a letter of intent 2 weeks ago outlining issues i had with a electric bike that went faulty but 2 weeks have passed with no response from you so looks like I now have to take this to the next phase
