Halford takes advantage

My break light fault alarm came on my dashboard. It's a difficult time at the moment and it was an extra problem I didn't need. I saw a Halford Shop and knew they did small jobs so went in to ask if they could change the bulb. They said yes and that it would take 15 mins. I came back 15 mins later and they advised me to change all 4 bulbs, two on each sides, as it was best. I took their advice. It took a further 5 mins. It came to £48.98. I thought it was a lot but presumed the bills bulbs were expensive. They offered me a free MOT (I use my trusted garage so declined) or to take my details and give me £5 off which I took. The bill would be emailed to me so I didn't get to see it there and then. When I saw the bill I couldn't believe the costs - the bulbs were £4.99 for two, so inexpensive ... their labour was £11 PER BULB changed!! No wonder they didn't just want to change the one broken bulb, but 3 more! I know I should have asked the costs and checked, but I didn't expect Halfords to completely take advantage. Won't be using them again!

Thank you Conor

We are two elderly ladies, one with a disability, and were in Galway having issues with our hire car, battery and tyres. A young employee called Conor was the MOST helpful, polite and efficient. I can’t tell you how relieved we were and thankful for his kind attention. Thanks Halfords and Conor

I made a complaint about halfords since…

I made a complaint about halfords since June 20th 2025 and no one has contacted me like they promised...I bought a dashcam online and arranged for it to be installed via Halford in Catford .Unfortunately the dashcam wasn't compatible with the app and I decided I would like to change dashcam.I arranged an appointment to have the dashcam taken out of my car to be returned and planned to discuss an upgrade.A minute before I arrived my appt.i was told that I cannot return dashcam because it was used.At no point was I advised about this and the manager at catford refused to discuss with me.Ive made several phone calls to customer services who assured me that matter would be Investigated and someone will in touch...no one has..I'm still waiting...as far as I'm concerned Halford is the worst company to deal with when you want query or make a complaint. When they have your money they don't care My case no. is Halfords Customer Services: 26479136 ...I've rang sent emails to no avail...this company is rotten to the core. I will be submitting notes everyday until something is sorted..I will not stop

I bought a Apollo slant about 3 years…

I bought a Apollo slant about 3 years ago from the edge lane Liverpool Halfords on the ride to work system the person who sold me the bike told me while the bike was being built it’s a bit of a crap bike as it is one of the cheaper models 🤔 they have and was trying to dupe me into buying a seven hundred to a thousand pound bike so he’d get more commission 🤨 on the sale lucky I know sales tactics he also told me I wouldn’t go on any big rides because it was such a rubbish bike 😒 funny that as I ride most weekends the furthest I’ve been from Liverpool upto now on my cheap bike Delamere forest all round Chester and wales not bad for a crap bike 😃 anyway finally the back wheel started grinding as I know a bit of bike maintenance myself it turned out to be the ball bearings in the spindle so called Halfords to see if they have my wheel in stock and was told yes thought great stuff got to the Halfords on edge lane asked about the wheel got told oh no we don’t stock that we do for the expensive bikes but not yours then got told try Quinn’s down the road they sent me to the competitor also by the way they don’t do the wheel I need😞 so had to rely on Amazon to save the day got the wheel I needed fitted it I’m back on the road again 😁 how can a bike shop sell you a bike but not have the parts in stock to fix it ridiculous practice whatever happened to the customer is always right if I what an expensive bike I’ll buy one not get sales bullied into it Halfords you need to send your staff on a training course to learn not to bully customers into buying bike they don’t want or need also learn them to offer advice in a better manner I was very disappointed in the Halfords experience this much 😞🤨🧐😔☹️😟😕😠🤔

Blanked Because I Complained

I purchased AC Pro from Halfords with an advertisement that it can 'repair' 2-3 average vehicles. There was a lot of data, much arguable, but it did not give a 'quantity' of refrigerant provided. Pages of data, volumes of capacities on 'average' cars, but no quantity on the AC Pro. Once I received the item, it was very clearly marked 508g(e), about 3/4 of the amount I need to fill my vehicle. I would not have paid anywhere near the £80+ for that volume under any circumstance, it is 24.5 times the going rate at COSCO for the same refrigerant in bulk. There is something to be said about the convenience of a simple pressurized can of ez use refrigerant, but the system also needs a supply line and fitting, so almost £100 to still be short of needed supply. AC Pro very clearly marks their product with weight, and instructions to not use it for a system that has no current pressure... but Halfords misrepresents the product in a purposefully misleading manner. Yes, 2-3 repairs would have been close to the value looked for; and, with great review, I found that the product could, in theory, 'top up' three healthy systems - so can 3x £10 canisters sold all day long on the internet. At this point, I could drive to a local halfords and return the item, in theory, but I bought online as I don't actually drive due to medications for an injury. So, I utilized the online complaint centre and returned the item to the authorized return centre, at an expense of yet £6.08 more. The product has been returned, I have a nice Everi confirmation with a picture of the shipped box (original box sent to me) on the receiver's desk, but I have had no contact from Halfords on the item, even though assured that my complaint is escalated. So, because I complained about false advertising and misrepresentation, along with the charging of 24.5 times the commercial rate of the product, I have been fobbed off to no end. My complaint was more than one week ago and not even a call back. The item was returned almost one week ago, and not even acknowledgement. Now, I am out two weeks time, £90+, frustrated, and I have no refrigerant for my repair.

Ray (Bracknell) is the best mechanic!

Ray is the best mechanic I've ever come across. He came to my address in the afternoon to replace my punctured tyre. I was having a moan about the tyre. Ray listened and was empathetic. He replaced my tyre, then out of kindness, checked on the other tyres only to find that one of the tyres had been put on the wrong way round! (Thanks Kwik fit, I'm never coming to you again!) Ray explained how this could be dangerous and took off the tyre. He cleaned up the rim and fit the tyre the correct way round whilst teaching me what I should be looking out for. Ray was tired, I could tell BUT kept a smile throughout. Dear Halfords, Ray is a keeper, please give him some sort of a thank you gift. He makes Halfords shine. Thank you so much Ray for your kindness.

Online ordering shambles..

Tried to order a dash cam online. Indicated that in stock but after trying on 3 occasions, payment taken each time and every time immediately refunded to my PayPal account. Stock control or payment system an utter shambles in my view. Will no longer use Halfords, just a waste of time and effort..

I’ve been a loyal customer for many…

I’ve been a loyal customer for many years and never thought I’d have to leave a review like this. After a routine bike service (gears/brakes adjusted, chain cleaned and oiled), I was told the bike was in great condition. A few days later, the chain slipped and I was thrown off — causing damage to the bike, my helmet, and minor injury. When I returned to the store to raise concerns, I wasn’t treated with the care or respect you’d expect — especially after a fall. I was dismissed, redirected, and ultimately told the next day that my bike needed £285 worth of repairs — none of which were raised at the time of service. It felt like the focus was on deflecting responsibility rather than helping a customer in a genuine situation. I’ve now raised a formal complaint with Head Office and submitted a Data Subject Access Request. I’ll share more as appropriate. I’m holding back on naming staff or going into more detail out of respect for the company — but this experience has genuinely shaken my confidence. To be continued…

False branch stock shown on website.

After checking Halfords Bletchley site for stock of a car tow relay drove to the store to buy. It turned out that the didn't have the one showing in stock. I was told it must have been stollen. So I checked the website for other branches with stock and I set off for their Milton Keynes shop. Here there was one shown in stock but after 10mins of staff stock checking I was told that it was not there. What a waste of a Sunday morning. Halfords used to be THE place to get your car gear but sadly no longer the case.
