AVOID COLLINGWOOD AT ALL COSTS!

AVOID COLLINGWOOD AT ALL COSTS! Take into consideration all negative reviews and don’t overlook it like I did!!! Before purchasing I called them to double check everything and was mislead over the phone, which made me go for the worse option. I misunderstood the fine prints because they were not clearly written, and are also misleading. Not to mention the spelling mistakes over the emails exchanged. I purchased learner insurance for a set amount of months, passed my driving test before the policy ended and they are refusing to refund the money for the months I will not use the learner insurance (which I have no option but to cancel). I’ve lost £160. They are claiming I never spoke to one of their agents which is a lie. Why would I have bought a policy over others without having spoken to anyone? Do not recommend them in the slightest! Go for reputable insurance companies instead, cheap becomes costly and it’s not worth it! Regardless of policy you go for its clear that you will be at loss!

Disgusting cancellation charges!

Charging £40 to cancel a policy when my sons passes his test within 10 months is disgusting! Penalising people for doing as they are told and cancelling - should have just left the policy to lapse instead. Young people already have huge insurance costs and charging admin fees like this is a huge slap in the face. Do not buy from this company unless you want to pay a cancellation fee! Buyer beware!!!

Made a difficult time a bit easier

My daughter’s car was ruthlessly attacked by thieves recently. This was devastating for her as a learner driver with this being her first car. Collingwood have provided an excellent service during a difficult and challenging time. They have been informative, professional, helpful and compassionate throughout. The whole process has been swift making it a lot easier for us. I would highly recommend. Melissa in particular has been superb.

AVOID

AVOID As per other reviews (well 21 out of the last 39), I believe Collingwood have unfair contract conditions. Their stock response is "it's in our Terms & Conditions" - any firm that immediately quotes that has little care for clients, and there's absolutely no reference to it on their annual learner driver insurance webpage, or the FAQs - it's buried when it could be clearly shown. Let's see what the Ombudsman thinks in terms of "clear, fair and not misleading" 1) The learner driver insurance has to end when the person passes their test. No problem with that. 2) Collingwood offer no pro rate refund on their policy for the final unused 4 months of an annual policy - first time I've ever seen that with car insurance and unreasonable give the reduced time that the insurer has to carry the risk. 3) Collingwood demand you pay an additional cancellation fee - upshot is you have to PAY extra money for having the policy for a shorter period! Very interesting that when challenged Collingwood immediately have their terms and conditions to hand, but they were not so clear on the standard timeline for responding to complaints (a regulatory requirement). I await to hear from them, other than just "it's in our T&Cs" and will adjust this review and rating accordingly. UPDATE: **To be fair to Collingwood, they have now waived the £40 cancellation fee, but not on the basis of unclear Terms & Conditions. I await the outcome of a formal complaint with regards to having clear T&Cs under the FCA's Consumer Duty regulations.** ---------------------------------------------------------- Exactly the answer I expected from Collingwood - I repeat that you would have to go 3 webpages deep to find this information: why don't you say on the 1st page, for example, "cancellation charges will apply if the driver passes their test"? You should also be aware of your increased recent regulatory responsibilities under the FCA Consumer Duty e.g. "..fewer upheld complaints about poor value and unexpected fees or charges". I await your response to my formal complaint, and will revert to the Ombudsman as required. The number of identical cases on here will help my position.

Thank you to Megan! Amazing customer service and support.

I had a brilliant experience with Megan at 14:27 on the 11th December 2023! There was no wait to speak to an advisor, and I was greeted with a lovely smiley voice at the other end of the line. Megan helped me go through all my options, explained exactly what I needed to know regarding cancellation and renewal, and I never once felt as if I was being swayed in one direction or another. It was refreshing to speak to someone so happy and kind, especially as car insurance agents can often seem a bit daunting! I’m a journalist, and have recommended Collingwood as an insurance provider via my articles previously, and will continue to do so with pleasure. Megan was a joy to speak to, a model employee, and if she isn’t already in some sort of managerial position she absolutely should be! What a lovely, lovely lady! Five stars, I recommend Collingwood for all new drivers, and your customer service is outstanding. Thank you!

The customer service is really good

The customer service is really good, if they are busy you get a call back very quickly and they sort everything out straight away. One worker named Sarah sorts out everything for me every time I call. She is very polite and she solves problems in an instant.
