2nd year tutor has been incredible

Sandra our tutor for year 2 has been so supportive and helpful and brings passion and knowledge in abundance. She shares so much and her feedback is thorough and thoughtful and so helpful. She's been amazing and I'm excited to continue the second half of the year and progress onto year three. Thank you so much to the staff behind the scenes and placements team too for always being ready to answer queries and help where they can.

Great experience …

I have found crystals to be great training Especially silly with Melanie Phelps, great teacher

Chrysalis/tutor

I have been with chrysalis for 2.5 yrs, my 1st year was enjoyable, with a great tutor, my 2nd year not so much, however, on year 3 1st session in January, my current tutor gave me structure, with slideshows & video clips to explain in more depth and giving examples of the different topics, I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 5 modules as I am a visual learner, the guidance given is great by Sarah Jones and she is a real fit for our group, I am looking forward to the rest of my final year with Chrysalis

Great experience!

I have had a great experience training with Chrysalis. The pluralistic content of the course has been very interesting and I believe has put me in good stead for my future as a counsellor. Most beneficial to my experience though is my tutor, Martina. Martina is incredibly knowledgeable, always puts us at ease, fills us with confidence and gives valuable feedback.

My Hypnorhearpy course and Tutor Mark Vanner

I have studied at oxford Brooke's university uk 1 year Hypnotherapy and counselling skills level 3 an accredited chrysalis course, which I would recommend my Tutor Mr Mark Vanner, from oxford, I found him very knowledgeable, helpful, and an empathetic, person he has been fantastic & made the subject highly interesting, he gave some useful tips, advise, supportive information and shared good practise always happy to help, very approachable I would recommend him as a tutor and as an experienced Hypnotherapist, I feel fortunate of had him as my tutor.

I studied year two and three with…Life Changing!!

I studied year two and three with Chrysalis and it has been life changing! Our tutor (Gloria) is amazing, as a person and as a tutor. Her knowledge and skills helped our class to gain insight and understand the academic and practical aspects of counselling. The North student support team have been extremely helpful. I would thoroughly recommend studying with Chrysalis. Thank you so much for such a life changing and rewarding experience!

I had a very varied experience of…

I had a very varied experience of Chrysalis, this was mainly due to the tutors in year 2 and 3 and a global pandemic. The course content was great, just the tutors in year 2 and 3.

Big thumbs up for Chrysalis

I’ve just finished 3 years studying with Chrysalis (Level 3,4 & 5 qualifications) and although I had previously seen some of the negative feedback from (several) years ago, I honestly have only very positive experiences to report. I was slightly nervous when I started, as although a had a past degree, being in my late 50’s it was 35 years since I had written an essay, so a bit rusty! The course format, classes on a Saturday and work set and practice between each class, suited my circumstances (working full time) and it was reasonably priced. It also geared up through the years and got me back into the swing of submitting work gradually. You do have to be self-motivated and willing to put in the effort and people do drop out but we were left with a lovely group and we all supported each other through the tough times. The tutors are all knowledgeable in the field, enthusiastic and able to share their experiences from both private practice and employment and also fortunately quickly adapted to the new technology. We all moaned when work submission went on-line (from being handed in) but thank goodness we did in the circumstances . When lockdown hit, classes transferred to remote learning within a couple of months, with very few problems. We were also given access to excellent extra free webinars on a host of subjects on a weekly basis. Getting placements during COVID 19 was tough for many of my course colleagues; I’d started early so luckily worked at two placement agencies (one local, one national) and completed the 100 hours. Clearly chrysalis courses are not full time degree courses but if you want an affordable, informative and accredited course that can teach you both the practical and theoretical skills to become an ethical, safe and competent integrative therapist I would certainly recommend you to consider this provider.

Good Course not so good support options

The Course content was fantastic and the tutor i had was also very brilliant at her job. However, Chrysalis as a company has been very poor at supporting me as a student, i had major issues with finding a placement where chrysalis told me ' this was not there problem it is down the students to find their own'. I raised concerns over the fact that Corona virus stopped physical learning sessions which went on to zoom, for somebody that suffers severe migraines with being on technology for too long, this was a huge problem to which i recieved an email from chrysalis to say that 'i would just have to try my best to stay with it as much as i could and that this would not affect only being allowed to not turn up to one session per year'. Overall the course and tutors are great but support on any grounds are very lacking.

CLOSED MINDED STUDENTS

** My review is mainly going to focus on my class time experience as lots of the reviews are about the course itself, while you are only having lessons once a month, I still had to turn up to these classes at least 16-18 times throughout the 2 years I was on the course, as well as going to study groups. I paid up 2 years in advance so felt bound to complete it. I was on the chrysalis courses a few years ago and my experience was very strange. A lot of the students seemed very uninterested in the subject and would talk about trivial matters instead, very few had an interest in what was being taught, in psychotherapy/psychology/self help. A lot of the people on my course were stuck up, closed and lacked empathy and it felt like they were just there to change career, as opposed to really wanting to help people as well as the course is at the end of the day a lot cheaper than doing a degree. It also confused me that a lot of people refused to work on their own issues even though they wanted to be counsellors, how can you help people if you're unstable? The first year tutor would talk about getting therapy but people didn't take this seriously. My first year teacher was professional, my second year was not. On one occassion she publically humiliated me (and allowed other people to do the same), when I brought it up she said, "there's nothing wrong with me giving you tips...", Instead of apologising for being rude and I didn't ask for her tips or show that I even needed them. Might I add that the students on my course were mostly 35 years old +, I was 21 when I first started, the older students would tune out the younger students like they had nothing interesting to say, like they were older so obviously knew better, I felt patronised on a few occasions during my 2 years on the course. Whenever I gave my opinion on the course there was always someone debating it or telling me I was wrong so I generally tried not to give my opinion much as it didn't seem worth it and I would feel very guilty about speaking due to feeling so judged by closed people. I started to dread turning up to the course as it's required to work in study groups during the lessons and sit in a semi circle facing each other, it made me anxious to be around such disinterested and detached people month in month out. You have to have meet ups at people's houses to practice work, the group that I was in would mock/laugh about the tutor, I thought this was juvenile behaviour for grown adults and also seemed like they couldn't be bothered to practice the work. It seemed like the tutors were quick to rush through the work as well, my second year tutor would let us leave early every lesson even though we were only there once a month! we could of used that time to practice our counselling skills etc. By the end I just felt drained, I learnt a few things about myself and how to deal with past trauma and developed better communication skills but didn't feel confident to be a counsellor as a career, so I ended up going on to do a degree in psychology instead. The subject content was good and very useful in places and wishy washy in others. I saw it more as a self development course as opposed to establishing a career- an expensive stepping stone. I had a lot of anxiety about my time on chrysalis courses for a long time due to how the students were/second year tutor was, it was odd behaviour from grown adults. I understand that this was just my experience and other groups might not be the same but if you're someone who is really interested in psychotherapy/psychology, you have empathy and have a genuine regard for helping others (I don't mean in a grandiose way obviously), keep in mind that lots of people that take this course do not feel the same as some people see the chrysalis advertisement for 'earn Β£50 an hour' and see it as a career change only. You also don't have to have particular qualifications to take this course so some people have never read up on certain subjects or have no interest about these things in depth in the first place.
