This applies to UK. I booked a VW Golf for 7 days at what I thought was a good price from London City Airport. Firstly they unlike other car vehicle companies, they are no where near the airport - rather hidden somewhere where buses/trains get to. Secondly they ask for a deposit in excess of Β£1,200 (more than your mortgage). Then to add insult to injury you can only pay this deposit with a credit card and nothing else. Any questions or complaints you have they will refer you to the terms and conditions hidden in plain-sight on their vouchers. I hire cars for weekend getaways and usually I pay up to Β£250 deposit and can use my debit card fine - in fact on the day I got shafted in the rear by carrentals I booked with Europcar for a bigger car (Nissan Qashqai) paying Β£250 deposit and used my debit card. If that was not bad enough, when I cancelled the upgrade and the booking, I lost ALL the money - other car hire companies have a cancellation fee BUT not carrentals - they have kept Β£108 of my money with no service rendered at all! This is what is unacceptable - they will take my hard earned money for FREE and report that as revenue yet they have not provided a service at all! I have written to the financial ombudsman and will continue to complain because no UK citizen should pay money and lose ALL of it for no service rendered.

We hired a car in Nashville and dropped it off in New Orleans. All staff were very efficient and friendly leaving no doubt about the amount we were due to pay. The Dodge minivan from Alamo perfectly met our requirements for 4 people plus luggage.
