Terrible vehicles

Don't let them give you a silver Opel Astra at Warsaw Airport!! The actual pickup etc went very smoothly. However, when driving out of the car park I noticed the orange engine management light was on. I stopped and told the young lady who handed me the car. She said to ignore the light as it is a factory fault and the car was fine to drive. 10 minutes into the journey I was having real problems getting the car into gear and the clutch was very "sticky". I decided that I would drop my wife and 2 young daughters off at the hotel then go back to swap the car as it really wasn't performing. However, I got to traffic lights, I was in the middle of 3 lanes of traffic. The car began to shake violently. The car would not go into gear and then completely cut out. I tried the engine 3 or 4 times but when it did start I could not force it into gear. Having 2 young kids in the car they became quite scared as we were sitting ducks. We called the emergency number, got out the car and removed all our luggage and waited for help. It took almost 2 hours for the replacement car to arrive with lots of apologies. I have since sent them an email to say how upsetting the whole experience was. However, the reply didn't even contain an apology. They actually told me that there was nothing wrong with the car and they hired it out to another customer. Can you believe that??? I hope the next customer isn't in the fast lane of the motorway when it breaksdown again, they might not be so lucky!! They're playing with lives!!

Nur mit zusätzlicher Versicherung

Das Fahrzeug wurde im April über die Fluggesellschaft gebucht und mit der Kreditkarte bezahlt. Vor Ort mussten wir die Kaution hinterlegen und die Kreditkarte war nur 5 statt wie im Kleingedruckten auf der Seite 3 hingewiesen 6 Monate gültig. Alle anderen Möglichkeiten wurden abgelehnt und uns wurden 560.- Euro für eine Zusatzversicherung aufgezwungen. Nie wurde darauf hingewiesen was eher Täuschung und Geschäftsmodell ist. Man muss auch vor Ort nochmals ein Papier ausfüllen, dieses dient eher für die Provisionbeweis der abgezockten Touristen. Auf dem Zusatzvertrag der Versicherung war bereits alles vorausgefüllt, sie wussten schon das es hier was zu holen gab. Ganz miese masche von der Swiss unterstützten Carunion

Auto Union Greece (Preveza Airport)-…

Auto Union Greece (Preveza Airport)- would definitely use again. We were told to expect someone waiting with a sign on arrival - we couldn't find him for 10 mins which sent alarm bells ringing, however on calling the office they said to walk across the road and minibus would be waiting for us, which it was. This was the only negative experience we had. The transfer to their office is 1 min away. Our car was ready and waiting , we checked over and completed paperwork and all was fine. Drop off was quick and easy. They had minibus waiting to transfer us back.

Slechtste auto verhuur ooit. Huur hier nooit een auto. De autoverhuur is slecht vindbaar. Bij aankomst hebben we een uur moeten wachten omdat de capaciteit niet op het aantal huurders berekend was. De auto die we meekregen maakte een absurd klapperend geluid dat vanuit de motorruimte kwam. AutoUnion was niet bereid naar ons toe te komen om het probleem op te lossen. In plaats daarvan hebben we een halve dag opgeofferd om terug te gaan naar autoUnion. Het mankement aan het voertuig is goed te verklaren. De verhuurder maakte een testrit waarbij hij de auto zo belachelijk ruig bestuurde dat geen auto het langer dan een jaar zou overleven. Bij het afleveren van de auto was de verhuurder zeer agressief en onbeleefd. Omdat er wat vervuiling door bezoek aan lokale stranden in de auto lag nam hij €50 euro van de borg in beslag. Aan de manier waarop dit kenbaar gemaakt werd blijkt dat dit spelletje vaker gespeeld wordt en dat ze op deze manier extra inkomsten proberen te genereren.

Perfect service!

Perfect service! Found the representative as soon as we walked out of Rhodes airport arrivals. We were taken 5 minutes by shuttle bus to their office where the very friendly staff did all the necessary paperwork in no time at all & we were soon on our way in a brand new Nissan Pulsar! The return of the car was just as quick & we were dropped off right outside departures. Highly recommended!!

Not recommended

I was unable to return the vehicle on time due to the recent catastrophic fires (23/7/2018) in Kineta which resulted in the roads being closed for 1 day. The fire caused severe loss to human life and property in the area. It was a traumatic experience for my young family but we were fortunate to only miss our flight and to have experienced this tragedy from a distance. We were trapped at one stage in Agioi Theodoroi and were surrounded in all directions by fire and with no roads open. After realising the gravity of the situation, as soon as the road back to Corinth was reopened (opposite direction from drop off point) we drove back. It was a traumatic experience with my young children crying and screaming when they saw the huge flames on the side of the roads we were driving on. I kept the company informed of the delay and informed AutoUnion that we were not able to return the vehicle until the roads to Athens reopened. I returned the vehicle with an 18 hour delay, as soon as the roads to Athens reopened again. On arriving at AutoUnion and returning the vehicle I was informed that we will be charged a €121 penalty fee for the delay in returning the vehicle. I appreciate that they are a business but I expected some understanding in the circumstances. It was near to impossible to return the car when the roads were closed. Despite this they made a business decision. I have of course made mine for the future. With regards to the rental vehicle - it appeared to be a car at lest 3 years old, it was dented and scratched on all panels. The interior was not much better - the back shelf was broken and all luggage was visable. The additional child car seat was of poor quality and did not appear to have ever been cleaned. The service light countdown reminder was active and during this crisis, where the car was needed, the electrical fault warning light lit at intermittent times. Apart from causing anxiousness this did not cause an issue. The wind screen wipers did not work, making it impossible to view the road clearly when they were used to remove the ash from brunt remains from the windscreen. Despite these faults and the car looking and feeling battered it drove well. The staff at the drop off point - which incidentally is in the middle of nowhere (Markopolous) were neither friendly, attentive nor caring. We were anxious not to miss another flight and asked when the coach will be leaving - the reply received was when it is full. In short, I would not recommend AutoUnion and will personally not be using them again. The vehicle could not be classified as new, did not appear to be recently serviced or well kept. Their apathy to their clients did not help. There are lots of other car hire companies around. I will be giving my business to someone else in the future.

Rental in Greece-Kefalonia

Rental in Greece-Kefalonia not satisfying. Booked via sunnycars, they conveyed me to autounion. I have payed an extra high price to get a better insurance and because of the better ratings in contrast to other car rentals i thought the price would be worth it. BUT it was worse. Unfrendly/strange staff and i got a completely bad car, the A/C didnt work well, the windshield wipers didnt work (very nice when its raining or if you want to clean your window sight), i got the car with an nearly empty gastank (if i booked in the internet the regulation was full/full). The car was also very old and damaged outside and inside and the motor made very strange noises. One week before i was in zakynthos and booked via cars&camper , they conveyed me to avis. This was perfect, i got a nearly new car and everything was just easy (check in/ check out) and thats for a price 30% cheaper. (In the internet avis has so many bad ratings, for me i cant understand why).

Do not rent your car at AutoUnion

I’ve booked a car on my vacation to Greece. When i arrived they told med that they did not confirm my booking, even though i got an e-mail that told me my booking was They told me they did not have a car for me. After at long wait at the airport they found an old car for me with no gas on it and no aircondition. They told med that I would get a better car the next day. But i didn’t!! They told me the day after and the next day, but no car! I got my car on the last day of my vacation and paid full price... So, I will never rent my car at this place again.,

I hope my story will help anyone else to avoid such a bad experience

Time spent picking up the car was much longer than usual, the only part the representative did not take very long, was when it was needed to mark where the car was damaged. I will not spend any words on the unkindness of the service, I can live with that. But on the return, I got a most unpleasant surprise that ever happened to me, and my car rental history is very long, by the way. The representative that evaluated the car at drop off, made a very thorough inspection, compared to the one made at pick up. He pointed out there is a new bump on the car and claimed that I had an accident, which is totally not true. Neither could the car have been damaged while it was parked, so it was an old damage not done during my rent. He would force me to pay the costs, which he chose to be 100 EUR (strange what a rounded number he chose) plus accident form cost, plus tax. I bet they will use that same bump on that same car again and again, to get extra money out of future customers. This kind of things just shouldn't happen, and they should be penalised. Don't bother to read any AutoUnion reply, I went on to read some older reviews, and there is a pattern of what they do to their customers. Disgusting.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

This is the most appalling service I have ever received. There is a huge catalogue of unfortunate events related to the booking I made for my boss. Firstly, he was not met from arrivals at Larnaca airport as advised and had to traipse around the airport with his luggage and two clients looking for the representative. They then had to get onto a bus to get to the site where the 'car' (otherwise known as death trap) was waiting. I booked, and paid for, a large car but was given a very small one that hardly fit my boss and his guests. The car was not in good working order (no lights) and had a bad smell coming out of the engine. The car was filthy inside and out. The rep was unable to provide my boss with an alternative car but promised to exchange it in the morning. My boss had to drive for two hours on the motorway in the evening in a car with no lights. There was no exchange in the morning so he had to drive the same car back from Paphos to Larnaca airport a few days later. The staff on the telephone are very unhelpful and rude. They just keep repeating they have "no influence" over the complaints dept. There was no explanation or apology. I sent three emails nearly 3 weeks ago, none of which have been responded to. Very bad service - save your money.

Strongly Recommended

Our experience with AutoUnion was amazing. We rented a car for a week and even had to add two extra days because of a flight cancellation with zero problems or penalties. No hidden costs whatsoever. I didn’t have a credit card at the time so i gave them cash to cover the excess and the whole process couldn’t have gone smoother. Honest, reliable and helpful staff picked us up at the airport and drove us back in a timely manner. Car had 30k miles on it but looked and felt new. Extremely happy overall.

It really annoys me when people put bad reviews when they haven't even used the company. I think these reviews should be removed! I have used Auto Union 4 times in Zakynthos. No problems whatsoever, their service has always been excellent...... booking again this year!
