Review summary
Wheels Motorcycles receives consistently positive reviews. Customers particularly appreciate service and professional, though some mention concerns about customer service and expensive.
Was looking for a Ducati Scrambler 800 as my next bike. A part exchange was at the forefront of the deal.
Wheels had what seemed the ideal bike with the right model, mods, mileage and price. My contact was Joe Scott who provided me with all the answers to the questions asked. A subsequent walk round video clinched it for me and we continued our discussions to a part exchange deal.
Despite this being an online purchase (I'm three hours away) I'm delighted with the overall experience: the communication, ease of the process to purchase, and Joes' involvement. (and even when he wasn't available he still made sure that I was kept informed).
Oh, I love the bike and would happily work with Wheels again should the opportunity arise.
Purchased a honda Goldwing, unfortunately had issues that wasn't apparent until it was rode home,
reported the issues was promptly collected and checked over and delivered,
unfortunately the problem happened again and another problem also showed up
Promptly collected again offered to fix it and give me a 1 Years honda warranty as an apology but opted to return for a refund that they did without argument/hesitation
Very friendly and accommodating customer service
From the moment, I walked into Wheels, Peterborough, which I searched online for Triumph Tiger 1200 SE Alpine which I decided on which motorbike to enquire about.
I was directed by a member of staff to Joe Scott, he instantly was attentive and asked me to show him what motorbike, I was thinking of getting explaining to him that leg reach was tip toes, he mentioned a lowering kit that was available in which came in two kits 20 and 40 mm.
I part exchange my motorbike, sign a few online forms which were straightforward even change the collection date a week earlier which Joe was very happy to do, on the collection day he showed and explained the controls and back history of the motorbike.
A very smooth and easy process at Wheels, Peterborough made even more by the friendly, informative staff.
A very happy customer.
Fantastic buying experience with Wheels. I had the pleasure of dealing with Joe. I spotted a Supersport 950s but was buying without seeing in person. I was given a thorough walk around video, all of my queries were answered, nothing seemed to be a problem. They held the bike for me when I was unable to take delivery as quickly as I had hoped, and the bike arrived in amazing condition. As I have bought the bike without seeing, there is also a 14 day cooling off period if I change my mind or am unhappy. Amazing service all round, and all with really friendly communication. Would definitely buy from Wheels again.
Absolutely shocking company. I part exchanged my bike and was owed some money on top. When they got the bike they said that they needed the V5 and the will hold back my £350 deposit until they have got a new V5. They ignore your emails are are breaching my statutory rights as they are illegally holding back monies owed to me.
Will is the guy I was dealing with, complete incompetent individual and ignores your requests. If I don’t get it back soon I will be taking legal action
I've called no less than 10 times for 3 days in a row to book my motorbike in for it first service. Been asked for my phone number and been told someone will call me back
Every time same lie. I understand they may be busy but 3 days 10 calls not even a reply to tell me something at least. Shame and unacceptable ☹️☹️
This is a slightly odd, but very long review because, from what was a very pleasant purchase of a new Aprilia RSV4 RF in April 2019 from Wheels, it sadly, at my expense turned into an extremely unpleasant and costly experience recently, as a result as I see, as gross misconduct from the mechanics of Wheels Peterborough, and the assembly of & sale/ aftersales of the bike I bought from them.
In short, what was blatantly a build error by Wheels mechanics, unfortunately took 5 years to manifest itself. The rear hub (which the rear sprocket is bolted to and should be suitably torqued to), of my RSV4 was not suitably assembled or torqued. This RSV4 was pampered by me and was rarely ridden in my current 5+ year ownership, and to date, has only covered 2,300 miles. As I live in SE London, taking it to Wheels in Peterborough for servicing wasn’t practical, especially when I tried to book the first 600-mile service with them and was told I had to wait 4 weeks for a booking, in July/ August 2019. Wheels offer a lifetime warranty on their new bikes sold, as long as you have them fully maintained in-house. In hindsight, a 4-week wait would have ultimately saved me over £2000 this year.
So, my bike was regularly serviced during its 5-year life by a well-known Aprilia Main Dealer in Croydon, and, a key point here, given its 2300 mile life in these years, it is still on its original rear tyre. This means that the rear wheel has never needed to have been removed, in any of the 500-mile, 1600-mile and 1900-mile services it has received in my 5 years of ownership.
So recently, I lost all drive to the rear wheel, which was a result of the hub bolts not having suitably tightened and torque-marked, unlike every other main fixing on the bike. Every bolt still shows the painted torque mark from when built new, but the 10 hub bolts cannot be seen, as they are hidden behind the rear sprocket. This resulted in 7 of the 10 bolts completely coming undone from their nuts, leaving the remaining three, under the torque generated by the engine under load, to elongate the wheel bolt apertures, ultimately shearing and destroying the wheel.
A replacement wheel assembly cost me £1,500, notwithstanding the labour cost from another very well known and respected Aprilia dealer, who verified the above malpractice in build/ sales of a new vehicle.
Once I contacted Wheels on this matter, the formal response from Darren Doig, Wheels Sales Manager was;
“Good Afternoon Mr Benedetti,
Thank you for your e-mail dated 14th June 2024 detailed below.
I am sorry to read you have had an issue with your Aprilia you purchased from us.
I have looked into the points you have raised.
I do not agree that Wheels Peterborough is responsible for the failure the bike has suffered for the following reasons:-
• We have not seen the bike since you purchased it over 5 years ago and have had it serviced and maintained elsewhere.
• As we have not serviced or maintained the bike, we cannot be responsible for the failure after it has been worked on by a 3rd party.
• If the bolts were not correctly torqued at purchase, they would have failed before now.
I would suggest you refer your complaint to Moto Croydon who have carried out the service & maintenance on the bike.”
Please look at all the attached photos, observing yellow paint torque marks (and lack of), and make your own mind up about buying a bike from Wheels, Peterborough.
On a final note, when I spoke to Phil Wilcox (who sold me the bike), before I officially lodged my complaint, he said it would have to be taken up with Aprilia UK. I asked him to quantify this, as the issue clearly lay with Wheels mechanics, and he replied that all complaints have to go through Aprilia UK. Let’s hope Aprilia UK read this review and take it up with the management at Wheels Peterborough.
Buy from, and have your bike maintained by, Wheels Peterborough, at your absolute discretion!! The photos speak for themselves but moreover, the vehicle build quality control at Wheels Peterborough!
From initial contact to the bike being delivered right to my door the guys and girls at wheels motorcycles were absolutely fantastic. The walk around video showed any minor imperfections but an otherwise extremely well looked after bike. I was extremely happy when I seen it in person and It is mechanically perfect. Any question I had were replied to very quickly and nothing was to much trouble. I would highly recommend giving them a shout if your in the market for a very high quality motorcycle from genuinely nice people
I bought an Aprilia Tuono V4 factory from salesman Joe Scott. From start to finish, he was extremely professional and looked after me really well :) the bike is in lovely condition plus it comes with a lifetime warranty. I couldn’t be more happy Well done, Wheels motorcycles ..
Amazingly quick delivery. I had visited earlier in the day and was really supported by the staff there, but wasn’t sure - as soon as I got home I ordered online and they arrived the next day. MotoGirl Dungarees are very comfortable and functional. Recommended. True to size.
After sales and quality of vehicle sold very poor.
Absolutely amazing at point of enquiry and sale and some really decent helpful staff but this is organisation and business protection first and customer second. At point of sales emphasis on selling and how few problems a Zero electric bike would cause. There were many problems and expensive repairs. I had a naivety in not checking the 3 pin plug charger within the warranty period. I lived on a 5th floor so never tried this charge function in warranty period. First time I plugged it in to charge off kettle lead all fuses blew. Wheels replaced the kettle lead and next time I plugged it in it blew mains power supply. Wheels say the 3 pin charger worked. I know it didn't and as outside warranty period Wheels would replace charging unit at a cost of 1k. I refused. Also problems with Zero and parts so really long delays until parts came in so off the road for long periods. First time I needed to replace the front tyre the wheel spindle was damaged and had to be cut off and replaced and tyre replaced. While in for this work for over a month the assessment of the bike failed to notice the drive belt had damaged and broken teeth and when I pointed this out they said yes the belt needs replacing and then had to order the belt. The belt they fitted lasted 500 miles before it snapped. The replaced belt has cracks on it and with only 2000 miles approx done for a belt designed to do 24k average the Zero technicians and Wheels say it's safe and ok. I've left a review as Wheels refuse to do business with me as I raised a complaint about the bike under the Consumer Protection Act 2015 and this reached Alternate Dispute Resolution and the Dispute service found in favour of Wheels. Despite rear brakes needing replacement and bike unsafe to ride Wheels wouldn't replace and I have to ride to another garage. They say safety is their priority and I feel it is unethical to refuse to do works and send a bike on the road. All in all a pretty awful purchase and sadly really difficult experiences and challenges and that's not even mentioning returning the bike to me more than once not charged up and so I had to sit there for a couple of hours post collection to charge. Wheels never shared ending retail relationship with Zero and so there's a dishonesty and lack of trust associated. I have one final trip to Peterborough to recover bike next week.
As a final advice you will be bowled over by sales communication. After sales. Helpful but definitely not as customer focussed in my experience.
Other retailers are available. Don't rush and shop around.
Biggest scammers in the industry £100s out of pocket and when call to speak to staff have phone slammed down on me. Kept my money and my item.... AVOID at all costs
