Unacceptable Billing Errors by Tomato Energy

I am deeply frustrated with Tomato Energy's billing accuracy. My July 2025 bill for the period of 1 June 2025 to 30 June 2025 was calculated using an estimated meter reading, despite my submission of actual meter readings on 29 June 2025 and 30 June 2025. This resulted in a discrepancy of 158 kWh. For context, my usage last month was less than 100 kWh, making the estimate over 1.5 times my typical consumption.This inaccurate estimate has led to a potentially inflated bill, which is completely unacceptable. I urge Tomato Energy to correct the bill using my submitted readings and overhaul their billing process to prevent such errors. This experience has completely eroded my trust in their service, and I highly NOT recommend Tomato Energy as a service provider. Once my contract term ends, I will switch to another provider and advise all my friends to avoid using Tomato Energy.

Absolute scammers

Absolute scammers, non-existent customer service or complaint resolution. The only thing they are good at is making up unrealistic estimated usage and taking much more of your money than they are supposed to. Anyone who expects to save on unit rates like us, you will only end up spending much more and experiencing extreme frustration.

Rotten Tomato II

I guess people can work it out for themselves since Tomato is not allowed to take on new customers at this time pending issues with regulators. But I am still moved to warn others given my grimmest ever experience with this organisation. Tomato agreed to move my account and provider to begin on 10th February 25. I set u a direct debit immediately and expected a straightforward transfer from incumbent supplier. They have still failed to deliver a single unit of electricity and just a few days ago e-mailed to say they cancelled my DD. To be fair even though they never delivered the service promised this e-mail represented a bit of a high point in a grim 6 months of non existent communication and their perplexing inability to say when they would connect me. They promised that as they had effectively left me on a higher tariff for months when they sorted their 'problems' they would make up the difference. Of course that won't happen along with the other stuff they did not do such as supply any service. I assume the regulators will find out this company is incapable of providing any energy service which is my lived experience. My strong advice is go (anywhere) else! ps Trustpilot is there not a case for a zero rating where no service at all is rendered and the reviewer judgement has to be solely on the level of misery inflicted?

Read my review and never trust this compony

Nothing after 3 months Review: I signed up to Tomato Agile Fixed TP October 2024-V1-Tariff, a half-hourly fixed-rate plan. For the first two months (Nov-Dec), my bills were correct and matched the exact half-hourly prices stated in my contract. But from Jan to April, they started charging me using a different pricing method — higher and completely unrelated to what was agreed. I made clear Excel comparisons and showed I was overcharged by over £260. When I asked why the first two months matched the contract, they replied that those months were “underbilled” and should have been more — even though they were based exactly on the contract. To make it worse, they told me that “Smile” and “Agile” are the same tariff. But “Smile” is not mentioned anywhere in my signed contract. This is misleading. It seems they used one name in the contract and now apply a different one, with changed pricing — without notice or consent. After not issuing bills for 4 months, I myself asked for them, they suddenly withdrew £450-500 from my account — even though I told them I couldn’t pay such a large sum all at once. I have now cancelled their Direct Debit access. If they cannot prove my bills are based on the half-hourly rates in my signed contract, I will be filing a formal complaint with the Energy Ombudsman. This experience has been financially and emotionally exhausting. I strongly advise others to review their bills carefully and request full written breakdowns.

Very late bills, but thrilled in the end

My motivation for writing this review is down to the fantastic customer service that I received from Naveed. He was very professional, understanding and sorted my problems out very quickly. He understood and was sympathetic to my neurological developmental brain condition and put things in place to make things easier for me going forward. That said however, I have been with Tomato energy since January 11th 25 and have only received my first bill on July 12th 25. This is despite numerous calls and even a formal written complaint. Since I have received my bills though, I can honestly say that I have never had cheaper energy. I have solar, house batteries and an EV at home and my average cost per kWh is ranging between 5p and 7p as I offset most of my usage to between midnight and 6am to take advantage of the time of use tariff. My electricity bill for the whole year will probably work out at somewhere between £500 and £600, that's for a family of 4 in a larger than average detached house and also including all the fuel for my car over 12,000 miles I don't have anything to complain about ❤️ Thanks again Naveed, you were fantastic

2nd year with Tomato arranged

I’ve had my energy prices and service from Tomato Energy for the last year and called to renew hoping for what I consider the best rates per kWh that are available from any supplier. Had a chat with Emma Moore at Tomato Energy who gave me a choice of rates that would suit my setup. Happy to say she was very helpful and renewed my contract for another year of very similar rates to last year. Excellent service thanks Emma.

No complaints great energy company

Been with Tomato 4 months now. Really like the tariff, by changing usage to different times am averaging 17 p kw/hr outside of fixed costs, which are also lower. Billing is very good and monitoring usage and cost via the app is very good. Takes money only in arrears and builds no balance. The changeover was really easy.
