Discriminate against anyone who's been on sick pay, no matter circumstances
Our own letting agent was happy to rent to us, Rightmove, the system they used, wasn't. My partner was off sick for a few months and had to go onto sick pay; he told his letting agent and arranged a repayment plan with them ahead of time, and was all paid up again after a total of about 3 months. Letting agent were really pleased, had no issues with it whatsoever, and he paid them a month's rent in advance as a thank you/ good faith gesture. They said they'd have him back as a tenant any time, and we made arrangements to move into a new place together. Rightmove hated this when we tried to move somewhere else. They insisted he couldn't be trusted with rent and had to pay 12 months (nearly 6 grand) up front in order to secure the place we wanted. We earnt more than enough to cover rent each month, had a combined income that was 20k over the required amount, both in full-time employment, and offered a guarantor on top of this. Landlord and agent for new property perfectly happy with this, but Rightmove once again wasn't. My partner had been suicidal, took time off to recover, and his reward is Rightmove telling him that, despite doing everything right, he's not fit to rent anymore. Edit: Contacted Rightmove, after lots of emails and calls going unanswered I got told there was nothing they could do and there's no way to a case by case review.
