Review summary
P&O Cruises is exceptionally well-rated by customers. Customers particularly appreciate service and quality, though some mention concerns about customer service and expensive.
It was just a lovely cruise. There was everything we wanted and being very much older, plenty of time to relax if needed. The staff are amazing, respectful and welcoming. The Baltic cities are wonderful sights and the talks by Dave Wright were inspirational and riveting. We went to every one. Loved every minute
What a beautiful ship, staff, food, drink, rooms the whole experience was memorable, my first cruise and a fantastic experience with great and beautiful locations visited in Norway.
Have recently returned from PO Britannia 10 anniversary cruise of the British Isles which we had been really looking forward to as it was visiting places we haven't been to before, although disappointed they cancelled our trip to Edinburgh. The cruise got off to a bad start for us it took nearly two hours from dropping our luggage off to actually get on to the ship (usually takes 20-30 mins) so was not happy it was exhausting and would have put of off if it was our first cruise. Luckily it all improved from then on and we had a fantastic and relaxing cruise. Food excellent and staff very friendly in particular Akrita and Stanley from the Meridan restaurant and Jenson our cabin steward. Britannia certainly pulled the stops out with the entertainment this cruise it was spectacular on deck and in theatre, you had to queue early to get a seat in theatre even though they did 3 shows a night it was full half an hour before show started. We did three shore excursions with PO and all where very good with knowledgeable guides on the coaches and the shuttle bus in other places was well organised. Sort the boarding out and back too 5 stars next time.
Very enjoyable voyage aboard Arcadia to Iceland and Norway
We really enjoyed our cruise to Ireland, Iceland and Norway with P&O on Arcadia. The staff were great, the hygiene standards were always meticulous, the food was good with plenty of choice and there was always plenty to do onboard (or not!) whatever suited. Good shore excursion choice (quality generally very good although quite expensive - but that wasn't a surprise). We're not frequent cruisers, but this trip matched the positive experience we had some twenty years ago on a similar sized P&O ship (now retired I think) the Oriana.
Just returned from a cruise on Arcadia to Iceland & Norway, if you've never been before & love stunning, beautifulscenery, this holiday is a 'must'. First time on the ship which sutied us for size, staff were very friendly, good choice of food, entertainment, cabin was comfortable
Just returned from a Norwegian Fjords cruise on the Iona. It was our first cruise and we were very impressed. The ship was immaculate, the food was excellent and the service was exceptional. All the staff were professional, efficient and always had a smile. So much to do onboard if you wanted. The scenery was spectacular. Would definitely recommend P&O
We have just returned from Arcadia, Iceland and Norway. Fantastic scenery, beautiful weather. Arcadia is a clean, well kept ship for it's age. Not to big to get around. The crew and staff always seemed happy, very friendly and knowledgeable. Our room very comfortable. Plenty of choice for food.
After booking your holiday with P&O expect lots of STRESS. and I mean it.
They will send you info about dress code (which i hate),Uploading pictures, and printing. Booking dinners, booking entertainment, booking for whatever.
The stress start 4 weeks before starting your holiday.
Truly Ridiculous
And on boated also with their ridiculous dress code evening etc. Not clear info about WIFi, but seems they charge for it, etc. You have to do this or that.
Real hassle and stress and still one is not sure all thing done right
Will not book again
My initial review has vanished.. here it is again.. its a copt of what Ive sent to P&O
CRUISE A524A
No shuttle bus from port entry to ship.
Had to walk from from Costa terminal as driver told everyone to get off and walk, it took at least 15 minutes. 1630 approx 28th June.
No water station at gangway.
Reported tv fault to recception 4 times
Comms manager not onboard willl be fixed 2 days before we get off on 10th July.... the TVs are very small.
Poor vegetarian choices. If nothing suitable chefs cant deviate from menu.
Cannot even do a pasta and mixed veg or simple vegetarian meal. Never had this problem on 13 previous cruises.
Suggested ask for childrens menu..... ' they may have pasta' Head waiter in Peninsular restaurant. 1835 28th June....
On 30th June only 1 veggie option..
No jelly in buffet, only had ice cream once in 2 weeks and it was very limited in choice. One of the toppings was cornflakes !!!
Virtual queue for restaurants is a waste of time. Quicker to queue up and wait.
with a pager. When you move up the queue it stuck on position 45 a number of times.
Many staff on reception are not fluent in English. 28th June 22.00. One person didnt understand difference between a continental breakfast and a full English.
No box of tissues in bathroom. Only supplied on request. No net curtain. Told by deck manager " its the budget "
30th June.only 1 unappetising veggie option in MDR. Food in buffet very poor quality. Dinner was tomatoe soup and a bowel of rice pudding.
July 2nd.. MDR veggie otion was tortolini. Looked and tasted liked it had been deep fried. Salmon en crout approx 2" square with a sliver of salmon no more than 1/4" thick
O0
July 3rd. Had planned on eating in The Glasshouse. Arrived 7 pm. " no food, problem with galley" spoke with reception who advised "untill further notice"
Went to buffet, the cod was inedible as it was dry, having been left under heat far to long. Left message at reception we would like to speak with food & beverage manager..
Once again there was no water station at gangplank on return to ship at 3pm.. ( 3rd time this has happened ) later on spoke with a young chap on shorex desk who claimed there was. He lied..
Took a week to find out we could have bathrobes and slippers. Why werent they in the room to start with ?
1620/5th July Piraeus.. No water station AGAIN.. told reception " yes there is, it was there at 3pm... WELL IT ISNT.THERE NOW... one chap ( Peter from Food and Beverage actually told us it was too windy and capt0ain had said to remove them....( both gazebos werent getting blown about )
Couldnt have a takeaway latte unless,I buy a cup.
A new low.
Mushroom and beetroot bourguinon in MDR inedible looked like road kill. We have emailed a pictute to P&O CEO. Mrs KT had cod with a herb cheese and marmite crumb ( seriously ) instead. Said it was ok.
I had moussaka which was also inedible as it had more than a hint of curry. Ended up with fish fingers and chips.
1400/7th July. No water station and hand sanitiser broken and unable to use at midships gangplank
Generally speaking througout cruise Indian staff unfriendly and making it clear they would rarher not be here.
If you go ashore by tender there is a compulsory walk test to ensure you can step into the tender. This is not a joke...
When Waldorf Salad was available in buffet it was just apple pieces in mayonaise.Waldorf salad it wasnt.
7th July. Very poor vegetarian choices in MDR with Indian overtones like most other dishes.
No TV signal 1505
9th July. Only 1 veggie option ( Gnocchi ) in MDR for dinner. As usual most items are spiced and very unappealing..
On this design of ship on deck 7 you can walk all the way round the ship.l, a big plus but not on Azura as the front section is closed due 'high winds' its been closed since 26th June, problem with this is that there are no 'high winds' just a gentle breeze and t is doing less than 10knots...
The Blue Bar has a walkway running through it to the lift. If you do not have the right attire , and that includes no shorts, you will be refused service, saw this happen a number of times, its hardly the Rialto bar at the Ritz... Do feel 2 formal nights on a 7 day cruise is to much.
9th July. Worst food yet in buffet. It was first theme night in 2 weeks. It was an Indian theme ( most dishes have a curry overtone anyway ) it was truly horrible. Even the tomatoe soup tasted of curry. Our view is that all the chefs we saw throughout our ctuise are Indian and they dont know how to prepare British food. One had to ask a colleague what English mustard was. What they brought wasnt.nn
10th July. Toast in the buffet wasnt toasted. Water melon in fruit salas was frozen.
We have done 14 cruises. This was the worst.
Just back from a Norwegian Fjords cruise that was amazing! The cruise ship was spotlessly clean. The staff all very welcoming and friendly! Myself and 2 grown up children (22 & 20) had a great time on board.
Our best:-
- restaurant, The Keel and Cow (book early to avoid disappointment). You do pay extra but well worth it. However, all restaurant food was excellent. Be prepared to put on a few extra pounds!!!
- trip, to the glaciers in Olden (Troll cars). The scenery is stunning all the way! Book trips early if you can.
- Entertainment, The Limelight club. Again, All entertainment was brilliant.
Our Thermal Spa 2hr session was the only disappointment, as part of it was not working.
We had a mini-suite which gave us extra room (needed with 3 adults).
Overall a fantastic holiday with great memories! I 100% recommend P&O cruise on the Iona to Norway. The sea was calm all the way! Loved Norway!! 🇳🇴
