Ordered decking oil waited several weeks for delivery . Arrived and all the cans were very damage in danger of leakage . Email of complaint ignored

They take your deposit straight away but takes ages before you get your deposit back still not got it
Rented a turf cutter for a one day rental with delivery and collection. They didnt deliver the rental until 1630 on the rental day; the next day they claimed a failed delivery even though CCTV shows they didnt turn up at the house. No contact since to pick it up and now they are trying to charge me £298.07 for continuing to rent it even though it is HSS who have failed to pick up their item. Really disappointing and also difficult to deal with over email and the phone. Would rent from them again

Went with National Tool Hire originally. Bad move. Sent me to closed business and nightmare contacting them. Should have gone to HSS first. Guy on phone really helpful. Arranged my equipment there and then which I picked up straight away. No proof needed and staff at Trafford really helpful too. And it was cheaper !

I am beyond disappointed with HSS Hire and urge others to be extremely cautious. We have been subjected to unfair charges, blatant misinformation from staff, and now a complete failure to respond to a formal complaint regarding contract W-T7WMTHDG. The core issue is an unfair additional charge of £83.31. This arose because on Friday, 11th April 2025, at 1:36 PM, I was explicitly told by an HSS operator that our equipment collection reschedule was confirmed AND that this would be completely free of charge. Had I not been given this false assurance, I would have made alternative arrangements (e.g., with a neighbour) for the original collection date of 12th April, as we were going on holiday. Predictably, relying on HSS, the collection was NOT rescheduled and failed. Upon our return: Another HSS representative admitted his colleague gave incorrect information and "needs to be retrained." Despite this, HSS refused to collect their equipment unless we paid the £83.31 for an extended hire, threatening further charges if we didn't. We were forced to pay. Our attempts to resolve this have been met with a shocking level of incompetence and evasion: My online HSS account was deleted. Multiple emails to various HSS addresses (including to onlinesupport, operations, onecallfinance) have been ignored. Phone calls have been abruptly cut off (May 7th during ID, May 8th after transfer). Live chats on May 8th repeatedly went offline when I reached the front of the queue. Following these issues, I sent a formal complaint email on Thursday, 8th May 2025, detailing all these points and requesting a refund within 14 days. It is now Tuesday, 20th May 2025, and we have received NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OR RESPONSE WHATSOEVER to this formal complaint. This entire experience has been stressful and a complete waste of our time. The lack of accountability and basic customer service is appalling. We expect a full refund of the £83.31 that was charged due to HSS's errors and a formal apology for the unacceptable service. Avoid HSS Hire if you value your time, money, and sanity. We will be escalating this to the Hire Association Europe.
The equipment was what i asked for and was delivered and collected (albeit a week late, after their website calendar first allowed me to book a date when the kit wasn't actually available). After rearranging the delivery, sanded the floors and it was collected and as per their website i'd overbought the amount of sandpaper and dustbags, on their promise that they would refund me for any that were returned unused. Hannded back the unused sandpaper and dustbags to the driver who said they'd refund me.. but they never did. They gave back my £150 deposit but amost a month later and they haven't refunded me for the sandpaper or dust bags. I've called 4 times and been told i'd get my refund (everyone i spoke to seemed nice enough but still no refund and some were a bit confused on which dept i needed to speak to). Their phone wait times are ridiculously long, so it's a struggle to get through to anyone and when you do, you get promises it'll be sorted but nothing gets resolved. They've basically kept the returned items and my money. I won't be using them again and i can't recommend them, due to the poor service i've received. If you do use them, don't overbuy your sandpaper or dust bags! Update: i have now received the refund for the sandpaper and dustbags i handed back. Although it's belated, i'm glad it's resolved. I've amended my review to 3 stars as a result.
